Tilghman Island house description
Welcome to Tilghman Island: home of the nation's busiest drawbridge, Chesapeake blue crabs, and the Dogwood Harbour Lodge. Bring the whole family, bikes, boat, kayak and Fido too. Step back in time as you enter your 19th century seven-bedroom, seven-bath getaway on Dogwood Harbour in the heart of Tilghman Island. Prepare fresh local seafood in your spacious, sunny kitchen while enjoying interesting harbour views. A large waterfront sunroom and a cozy sitting room with fireplace provide room for all. Enjoy a glass of wine on your large screened porch while listening to sounds of seagulls and a working waterman's harbour or find a moment of solitude in your secluded gazebo. Wander through your back garden to the harbour itself where you can ask the local watermen about today's freshest catch. Set sail on a cruise aboard one of the last remaining working skipjacks or launch your own adventure on the area's unique network of beautiful waterways. Located on the Chesapeake Bay, the area lends itself to abundant fishing, crabbing, hunting, kayaking, sailing, walking, and biking. The Tilghman Island waters have the very best fishing in the bay. At Dogwood Harbour Lodge, you are within walking distance to local haunts, the general store, wine tastings and upscale dining accompanied by stunning sunsets year-round. Add charter fishing, cycling, lighthouse and eco-tours and you'll find, in Tilghman Island, a whole different world, not very far away ...

About the owner: I live in London part of the year and on Tilghman Island whenever possible. We have reunions with family and friends here often. The neighbors join us for barbecues and to watch the sun set over the harbor. The small island community is a home away from home.
Why the Owner Chose Tilghman Island:
This property has been an inn during most of its life and was originally built in the late 1800s as a boarding house for tourists coming to Tilghman Island by ferry for hunting and fishing and to flee the oppressive summer heat of Washington and Baltimore. It overlooks Dogwood Harbor, the last remaining port of the Chesapeake Bay skipjack sailing vessel and home port to the fiercely independent Chesapeake watermen. Tilghman Island is twelve miles southeast of St. Michaels in the heart of Chesapeake Bay on Maryland’s eastern shore.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We welcome you to make this your base for exploring the rich heritage and scenic beauty of one of America’s most outstanding environmental treasures. It is also a fine choice for quiet relaxation and reunions of up to twelve adults. Your well-behaved children and pets are also welcome. Each of its six bedrooms has its own private bathroom. There is no smoking indoors. We can provide excellent local catering on site.
