Spacious Farmhouse, 8 minute drive to Stratton base lodge, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, great room, bathtub, private road, apple orchard, meadow, view.

This expansive and beautifully renovated farmhouse is set in an apple orchard and is surrounded by a 10 acre meadow on a quiet country road, exactly one and a half miles from Stratton Mountain's access road. It features a very roomy kitchen with Vermont green slate farmers' sink, slate counters and a native pine slab island. The kitchen looks into the great room with vaulted ceiling and fieldstone fireplace. All bathrooms are done in beautiful Vermont slate and Italian limestone. There is also a separate family room with its own smart TV and DVD movie library, just in case the kids need their own space! If you'd like to experience resorts other than Stratton, Magic Mountain is 12 minutes away and Bromley is a 15 minutes drive.

This house is the original Diers Homestead, established in 1940. It was named The Chicken Ranch in the 1960’s. There aren’t any chickens, but there are many forest creatures that wander out of the Green Mountain National Forest & into the meadow. You may see foxes, deer, moose, large marmots, and lots of different birds including wild turkeys & great blue herons. Apple trees of many varieties are scattered around. Come eat freely when they fruit! Make a bonfire on the hill inside a giant fire ring. The beautiful sunrises and sunsets are both visible as the meadow is open to the south, east & west. This is a special place in a perfect location. If you like to explore by foot, there’s a network of private hiking trails and a river to cool off in, both within 1/4 mile from the house. Also easily within walking distance is the village of Rawsonville: Ungrounded Coffee, Meulemans' Craft Draughts, Honeypie, Family Kitchen and Pizzeria, OMG garden center & gift shop (home to the occasional Greenhouse Sessions event!), Mountain Riders, Equipe Sport & the Rawsonville Marketplace where you can get basic supplies and fuel.

Speaking of fuel, if you really want to roll your wheels… Stratton Village is only 8 minutes by car. During the summer, take a gondola ride to the top and check out the fire tower where you can see the entire lower half of Vermont state on a clear day. The village centers of Jamaica, Londonderry and Peru are also very close by and boast great food and crafts. And there’s always Manchester, if you’re seeking lots of shopping and fine dining. Horseback riding is a 15 minute drive from the house at Horses For Hire in Peru. This is a truly authentic experience. Trail rides for all abilities- even the “pony ride” for the little kids is a trail through the woods. Not to be missed! Also in Peru is Bromley Mountain which, during the summer months, becomes The Thrill Zone featuring a giant alpine slide. At Bee Well Homestead in Jamaica, there is authentic BBQ, live music and yoga during the warmer months. The New American Grill in Londonderry has a wide selection of delicious food and their open mic night on Thursdays feature very talented local musicians. Even though it’s so close to all these uniquely wonderful people and their businesses, it is really just off a little country road - the best of both worlds! The owner/caretaker cabin is located on the property, right next door so help with anything house related comes quickly, including snow removal at first light so you’ll never be late for fresh tracks on snowy mornings!

Exceeded expectations!
Pictures didn’t do justice- the place was perfect- organized, clean, comfy! Adam was attentive and easy to correspond with! The beds were super Comfortable! Everything we needed in the kitchen was available. The appliances and washer/drier were newer and clean. There was all available paper towels/toilet paper/laundry detergent, etc. The fire place was lovely and there was perfectly dry wood and starters! We thoroughly enjoyed our time!!!

Perfect Stratton House!
We could not have been happier with this house - spacious, comfortable and ideally located to Stratton. The house had everything we needed to enjoy cooking meals and hanging out with multiple smart tv's, super comfortable beds/sheets/towels and little extras everywhere we looked. Adam was a perfect host; incredibly responsive and helpful about the area and our ski plans. We loved our stay and plan to rent this house again next time we come to Vermont!

Beautiful large house on two acres
This is a fabulous place to stay! This older home is beautifully updated with so many unique touches: gorgeous stained glass windows in the great room, beautiful wood throughout, handsomely tiled bathrooms, large stone fireplace, screened porch, and three sets of French doors that give a view of the apple orchard and the trees and hills beyond. Adam is all you could ask for in a host: friendly, accommodating, quick to respond, and helpful with whatever you might need. We have stayed in many VRBO properties and this is certainly one of our favorites! Rawsonville is a great location, with many good restaurants, shopping, state parks, the Green Mountains and Stratton Mountain nearby. If you’re considering staying in this area, don’t miss out on this wonderfully inviting property that would comfortably accommodate a large family or group of friends. Thank you for everything Adam!

Night in Rawsonville
We recently spent a nigh at this house in Rawsonville. The owner, Adm, is very nice and accommodating. He responded very quickly to any questions that we had. The house was very clean, and many of the necessities were provided. the only suggestion I might have is to add fire pit . I would definitely go back again

Why they chose this property

This house was originally built in 1940 for Henry Diers who owned all of the surrounding lands. Many renovations later, it was a famous ski house for the Stratton, called "The Chicken Ranch House" and is still fondly in the memories of skiers from Stratton's early days. After purchasing the property in 2005, I did a complete renovation of the entire property, opening up the kitchen to the greatroom, installing giant beams in the ceiling, creating the space to the vaulted roof pitch, continuing the fireplace stone all the way up with stone harvested on site, adding additional bathrooms, screened porch, outdoor patio looking out to the apple orchard, giant stone surrounded fire pit at top of hill and artistic details from local artisans... stain glass windows, stone farmers sink and Vermont green slate counters, hand wrought fire screen, and opalescent glass coin mirror, etc.

What makes this property unique

With only an 8 minute drive to Stratton's base lodge and walking distance to the Rawsonville Roost, with it's restaurants, craft beer shop, coffee shop, marketplace, this house is truly a gem and a pleasure to call your winter getaway.
