Perfect holiday house for a big family
Perfect holiday house for a big family
We stayed with my family (9 persons) in this lovely house and spent 2 weeks in Del Mar. First of all, the location is great and there are 4 large parking spots reserved, which is very convenient during race season. Then the house itself is large and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and functional. We really enjoyed the service and were very well welcomed at our arrival. We could not find anything wrong with the place.

Felt like our own beach house!
Felt like our own beach house!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The previous reviews have said it well: great location, perfectly equipped, helpful property manager... It was especially nice to just carry in our suitcases and some food and have everything else ready at our fingertips. The house is so comfortable with great shared spaces and yet enough indoor and outdoor room to spread out and not be stepping on each other. We were 8-10 adults/older teens and didn't feel a bit crowded. Our kids (17-25 year olds) loved their time together. And, of course, the location is superb with the beach a few steps down the street, but the house tucked away from the traffic on Camino Del Mar. And, we had a week of great weather-I'll give God the credit for that! Half of us are San Diego natives who live just 25 minutes away, but we felt like we were totally on vacation and away from it all! We enjoyed every moment.

One big happy family
One big happy family
We rented this beautifully remodeled house for a week... 2 young kids and 7 adults... we were all really really happy with our experience both at this house. So close to the beach and the sweet little Old Del Mar. So much to do we didn't even get to the fair :) The house is perfect for relaxing, cooking and the way it's laid out (two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs), everyone had the right amount of personal space they needed. The house is really well stocked and had all the beach toys, chairs, etc that a group could possible need including a car that helps you roll it all down to the sand. It was so hard to leave that sweet space and I will truly remember those days there forever. I can't wait to get back! Also, Tracy who lives in front was so gracious and friendly.... brought toys out for our little ones and really provided the best customer service ever. A really special spot.

Del Mar 25th / Excellent Vacation
Can't miss house. Quiet street that is just a block and a half from the beach. Tracy was super accommodating and checked us in and showed us the wonderful property. The property had all the extras: supplies, beach towels, boogie boards, beach chairs, WIFI, HDTV, etc. Walk downtown was < 1mile and very pleasant. The house was very clean and had great light and a large living area and kitchen area. Best part of the vacation was just relaxing on the beach while the kids enjoyed the water. We will definitely return in the future. Track was closed but very close to Del Mar if the meet was open (easy walk). Check out Prepkitchen in Del Mar - great restaurant!

Manager response: Glad everything worked out well for your stay. So many great restaurants to speak of. Thanks for highlighting PrepKitchen. All are within comfortable walking distances or less than 3-minute drives. Look forward to seeing you again.
Fantastic stay at this lovely house! We were two family (4 adults and 5 kids w/ ages ranging from 2.5 y- 7y). The house is very well laid out with two bedrooms up and two down so it was very private. It is located at the end of a culdesac just 1 block away from the beach at the 25th Street Lifeguard tower which has bathroom facilities and a shower area for rinsing off. Lovely short 10 min walk to the Del Mar Village too for breakfast coffee. Centrally located to Sea World, Legoland, San Diego Zoo and Safari Land. From start to finish the stay @ the home was an enjoyable one! They have a reservations manager who was very prompt w/ email/phone communication making scheduling very easy. Once at the house (which is a duplex), the property manager ( lives in the other unit of the duplex/ thus is very available) meets you with a smile at the house and shows you around, thoroughly explains how everything work, and was easily available when needed and very helpful. Even though it is a duplex, the house is very quiet. There is a working railroad track two house down, but really, the house is SOOOO QUIET! I didn't even realize the trains were going by until the 2nd day when I heard a soft swoosh all but to the count of 5. We are a two physician family and cherish our sleep. Never once woke us up! The house is very well stocked with starter spices, coffee and condiments. Has a working drinking water filter and every appliance you could imagine (a far cry from our last VRBO stay where we ended up having to buy everything!). The kids really enjoyed the boogie boards, beach toys, beach chairs and umbrellas. Beach towels too! The property manager even pulled out an activity table with toys for the back patio for our kids and bath toys as well that her child had outgrown. Ample parking out front and the neighbors all seemed to have kids and had evening basketball games in the culdesac. The rooms were lovely and cheerfully decorated. Beds were very comfortable with ample extra quilts/blankets in the closets. TV's in all the bedrooms made it nice for kids/folks needing a little private space. Bathrooms were very clean and well stocked. To wrap things up, the sweet housekeepers came on time and were very unobtrusive allowing us to vacate without feeling pressured. The security deposit and follow-up was very prompt and professional. We had an absolutely wonderful time and plan on many years of return! Great experience! Highly recommended!!!!

Big Chill Reunion
Big Chill Reunion
This was my first time back to Del Mar in 20 years and it's just as awesome as I remember. What made it even better was the time spent with wonderful friends in an incredible setting. The Beach House is the perfect place for any kind of get together. Beautifully appointed and for want of nothing. Luxurious yet cozy. A quick block and a half and you're at the most amazing beach - perfect for sunning, surfing, walking and watching the world go by. The owners made sure all details were attended to, and Tracy, the property manager, lives next door and could not have been more helpful nor sweet. I'll go back just as soon as my schedule permits! This is a very special place not to be missed!

Family Week at the Beach
Family Week at the Beach
We had a wonderful week with our 3 adult children at this house. It is in a great location- a very easy block and a half walk to the beach. I was concerned about whether crossing the road to the beach would be difficult, but it was not a problem at all. And as others have noted, the house is nicely decorated and very well equipped. The owners seem to have thought of everything. The kitchen was great for all of us cooking at the same time. The property manager lives in the other part of the duplex and is very friendly and helpful.

Great location - only a block and a half from 25th st. beach! Also an easy walk to Del Mar shops and restaurants. Recommend the Stratford Cafe for casual outdoor breakfast or lunch. Plenty of room for our extended family - can fit 8+ people around the dining room table and the outdoor patio table also. We also played ladderball in the private backyard area. Neighborhood is quiet considering how close the houses are to each other. Did hear the trains but they didn't disturb our sleep and they were exciting for our grandson. Rental process was easy and onsite manager was very helpful. Would recommend this property - it was well maintained and very clean. Well equipped kitchen. Bathrooms on the small side but adequate. No a/c but plenty of ceiling and other fans so we were comfortable. Lots of extras available to renters including beach toys, unbrella, boogie boards and even a beach cart to carry all your stuff to the beach.

I stayed with my family (kids plus in-laws) for 5 nights. The beach house is superbly located just over a block away from the beach. Downtown Del Mar has many great restaurants all within a 2 minute drive from the house. House was well equipped and in perfect working condition. The fire pit in the front adds a nice touch for drinks, appetizers and dinner outside. Plenty of backyard dining options as well. Overall this house provides a great value and we look forward to visiting again. The owners really care for their property and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasurable one.

Year Purchased: 1972
About: We are the McDermott kids. Our earliest memories are at Del Mar beach running along the shore, and dodging the incoming waves like the sandpipers in the early 60s. We would drag our inflatable canvas surf mats with rubberized ends into the waves to ride them. This was before surfboards made their appearance in the numbers we see now, yet it was how we learned to read the waves, know where to take off and get the best rides. The lifeguards seem to have always been there – the red trucks slowly cruising the shore, the towers at 17th & 25th streets, providing a sense of security and safety to us young waterdogs. This is also where we first tried surfing at 15th St.. It is a passion a few of us have to this day. We've surfed, bodysurfed, fished, skin & scuba dived, sailed, and Zodiaked through the surf. My brother and I even waterskied on surfboards behind our Zodiak in the slough west of the highway by the racetrack. We basically grew up in the waters of Del Mar.
Why Del Mar:
Our parents, Bill and Phyllis, started coming to Del Mar in the '50s from a Los Angeles suburb because their own landlords owned a couple of duplexes - one on 28th and the other on 24th streets. They'd visit for a week each summer. They were hooked! (And so were we!) Their first purchase was a small house on 23rd St. in 1964 and then another a few years later, then this duplex on 25th St. in 1972. My brother and I added on 2 bedrooms, a bath and 900 square feet while students in 1976 (all through Del Mar's Design Review Board, permit-hell, etc.) After our Mom passed in 2010, we again updated everything: roof, windows, flooring, carpeting, kitchen, furnishings and paint to make it the home away from home that it is.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The beach, a few minutes from the property, is a romantic place for couples to stroll at sunset or in the morning with their coffee from Starbuck’s or the Poseidon. It is also ideal for vigorous jogging or running, and for many beach sports like volleyball, Frisbee, paddleball, surf-fishing, skim boarding, swimming, body surfing, Boogie boarding, and boardsurfing. Many of these activities are limited to certain hours or locations based on the season and crowds, but you can almost always find something fun or relaxing to do here. Finally, it is an excellent place to drag a chair, bring a good book, plug in your iPod (iPhone/iPad, etc!) and enjoy the calming effects of the Pacific waves against the white sands of the beach.
