  This home worked out great for us -- a family with 5 kids. Kailua is a great town . . . we wouldn't go anywhere else on Oahu. From this home you can walk to the grocery store and Pizza places, and the beach is actually less than 7 minutes away. We would go back again. Aloha!

  My family and I had a wonderful visit. My Husband and I and our three young kids ( 7, 6, and 2) and 4 other family members stayed here very comfortably.The kitchen had everything we needed right down to condiments, cooking oil, spices, and coffee. The blender was also much appreciated :) We were walking distance to a Safeway, and if you are there on a Thursday, there is a great farmers market near by. If you are a coffee lover like myself, we discovered a cute coffee shop about a 5 minute drive called ChadLou's. I highly reccomend it. We went there every day. We also went to Waikiki almost everyday. It only took about 25-30 minutes to get there. It was nice to be in a residential neighborhood, yet close to a tourist area if so desired. We loved the sunrise every morning, and even drove to Kailua beach one morning to be on the beach as the sun rose. The beach was a little further than we expected, but still definitely walking distance. My kids were able to do it in flip flops, and there was a stroller in the garage for my 2 year old. We were also impressed at just how kid friendly the house was. We were thrilled to have a pack and play already there for our use, along with kids toys, games and movies. There were also various sizes of life jackets for the kids,and beach toys, umbrellas and chairs. Even snorkel gear, and water shoes. Carol was a great hostess and provided us with everything we needed, she even brought my son some ointment for his head as he is 2 and upon arrival ran into a wall as boys do. :). We would go back in a heart beat. It was truly the best vacation I could have asked for. We will be back!

  We shared Kailua house with other family of 3. We were also family of 3 and place was more than enough for all of us. House is located 5 minutes away from town and driving distance from the beach, but it was perfect for us. Had everything we need and beautiful ! We watched the sunrise every morning from our bedroom ! Thank you Carol for good communications ! We will return.

  Our group of 9 (6 adults, 3 children) stayed at Ke Ohana Hale for a week last month. It was very comfortable for our large group, and many amenities were appreciated, including in-home laundry, beach gear and coolers, a dishwasher and other kitchen appliances, bedding and towels, and some treats left in the pantry from past guests. Two of the bedrooms were gloriously sunny in the mornings, and the third was better for those who like to sleep late. We never ran out of hot water in the showers, and the wifi worked like a charm. The only "cons" were that it is in a residential neighborhood so things like barking dogs, sirens and garbage trucks were noticed, but were not a problem. The homey atmosphere was definitely a plus for our group reunion! We also were farther from the beach than we realized it would be - about 2.5 miles to the big beach park (unless you find some of the narrow public access paths along the long residential span in between the house and the park) - so plan to drive to the beach. Grocery, coffee shops and take out food were all within easy driving distance, as well as access to highways. We loved staying on the windward side of the island. Carol was a lovely hostess and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a pleasure to stay at Ke Ohana Hale!

  We had a whole family (6 adults, 1 kid and 1 baby) staying for 7 nights. We had great time! The house is very close to everything, very convenient location. The arrangement in the house is baby-friendly. Carol is so nice to provide kids toys and swimming tools. My baby enjoyed them a lot! As for us, the house is space, clean and totally like ourselves home. Thanks for everything, Carol!

  This was our first time renting a house for our visit to HI for Christmas - and it was fantastic! We've visited HI about 10 times now so we know our way around the island and this was a perfect location. The house had everything we needed, was right around the corner from a supermarket and a very large, beautiful beach. I would honestly say you could make it anywhere in about 20 - 30 mins (easy drives as well). We fit 7 adults comfortably and ended up cooking family dinners almost every night. The back yard was very large and perfect for morning sunbathing or book reading. And the breeze throughout the house was great - would have never needed AC. Carol was fantastic too! She had all the information we needed and was available anytime we had a question. I would definitely recommend this house!!

  If you never considered staying in Oahu because the Honolulu scene seems crazy, I really recommend that you give a house in Kailua (or Lanikai) a try. This house has large, well lit, beautifully (but not newly) decorated rooms with great cross ventilation (and a nice breeze at night). We stayed in August and never needed to turn on the AC. The kitchen's not fancy, but it's spacious and well-equipped, and the bathrooms are circa 1960s. Basically, this is a gracefully aging beach house. The exterior, yard, and neighborhood are also not fancy- this is a quiet family neighborhood. There is no view. When we visited, the surrounding hills and yards were completely dried up (we didn't use the yard at all), but in winter (I hear) things green up. A really beautiful, quiet end of Kailua Beach is a 15' walk away, or you can drive to town and Kailua Beach Park (or Lanikai, if you can find parking!) in just a few minutes. Kailua town has great coffee houses and shops. Or if you need something bigger, you can get to the Ala Moana Mall in 30', driving through the beautiful Pali. The owners live nearby, and were very friendly and helpful. Don't forget to eat at Buzz's in Kailua- right across from the park and at Pa Kay in Kaneohe. Book Ends looks like a used book store from outside, but inside it's a really excellent mix of new and used, with great staff. We also enjoyed a moonlight ride at Gunstock Ranch, about a 50 minute drive North.

  Five adults and two teenagers shared the house. House was comfortable and spacious....we lived in harmony for the week. The best part was location. The house is a 15-minute walk to one of the most beautiful, uncrowded beaches in the islands. There is good highway access to Honolulu and rim drives. A Safeway store is within walking distance. Because the house is located on a hillside, we had cooling trade winds at night. The neighborhood is quiet and residential. The owner was helpful and friendly. We especially appreciated the extra hours she allowed us on check out day so we could visit the beach one last time. We would recommend this house to friends and family.

  We enjoyed a wonderful week here in June. The house was very spacious and beautiful as advertised. Carol, the owner, was extremely easy to get along with and very helpful with questions once we got there. We enjoyed using all the beach equipment that was provided with the house. The beaches around Kailua were great and less crowded than some other beaches in Hawaii. Easy access to all the attractions in Honolulu and even the North Shore. We enjoyed Island Snow in Kailua, and also Big Kahuna Pizza in Honolulu. We were pretty busy taking in as much of Oahu as possible, but it was great to have our own space to enjoy breakfast and come home to each evening. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for an easy friendly place to stay on Oahu. The Browns

  We were greeted by Carol who was very helpful in settling us in and throughout our visit. The house matched the description and was very clean and well maintained for this older home and in a farely quiet neighborhood. The house accommodated 8 adults with one couple sleeping comfortably in the living room. The 3 bedrooms were very spacious with fold out futons. The kitchen was fully equipped and to our delight water toys were available for our use. Wish there was a bigger cooler to use since we were always gone during the day. I would recommend this house to family and friends. I grew up in Honolulu but always loved the Kailua side of the island. It was close to Lahaina, Kailua Beach and Sandy's, the Blowhole and Haunama Bay and Kona Brewing Company. The house is close to L&L Drive Inn for local grinds and Safeway, where we are mainland members. If you go to Foodland I suggest you apply for a Foodland membership for local discounts. A small note about bugs in Hawaii... We had an occasional roach which was not surprising to us. A count of 3 in 4 days is NOTHING. Small ants are attracted to sweet stuff and water on dry days, so we always stored food in the refrigerator. The size and location of this house far exceeds the small pests! Carol did a fantastic job in keeping the house clean to prevent infestations. I stressed to the family of keeping the kitchen clean and eating in only the dining room and lanai! Welcome the clicking geckos in your house since they eat those pests! Sheer curtains are installed so sleeping in was not an option. So, if you want to sleep in bring eye patches. We were always up before sunrise to get out early and avoid the crowds on beaches. Again, I would recommend this place to family and friends If you want to experience island living while vacationing and not be with the typical tourists in noisy, crowded Waikiki or spending top dollar in resorts if you only use the room as a snooze base. Mahalo Nui Loa!

  Owner response: Thank you for letting us know that you would like a larger cooler. It is there now - ready for your next visit. The last large cooler we had disappeared, never to be seen again. We hope this one stays around a bit longer. This very nice family asked us to correct an error in their review. They wrote that we are close to Lahaina -- Lahaina is a lovely place, but it is on Maui. They meant to write: Lanikai and for those who aren't aware, Kona Brewing Company isn't in Kona but in Hawaii Kai about 30 minutes from the house.
