We stayed in the house in August 2012 and had a wonderful time! We arrived with our four children and found the place to be quite spacious for our family. The description of the property and the pictures were very accurate. The place was very clean and we had everything we needed. We were extremely close to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse and were even able to walk across the street to order lobsters and other seafood right from the fishermen. The owner was even gracious enough to lend us his lobster pots and he even cooked the lobsters for us! There was a big backyard to enjoy, much to our boys' delight. And it was close enough to Acadia NP and Bar Harbor, which all made for a wonderful vacation!

Our Stay in Bass Harbor
Our Stay in Bass Harbor
Our stay in Maine was wonderful! The owners of the front house were very helpful and hospitable. One of the highlights of our stay was when they came over to show us how to cook lobster! The property was clean and well maintained and roomy enough for our family of 5. We were very comfortable and this is an awesome location! We had a view of the Bass Harbor and we were only 15 minutes from Acadia National Park. We had a ton of fun and would consider staying at this location again if we make it over to Maine again!

Pleasant, quiet location
Pleasant, quiet location
My family of six was comfortable in this charming, Old New England (for example, built-in cabinets under the eaves) house. It was great to have the Evanses next door, as they were very pleasant and helpful, but didn’t hover. Bass Harbor is indeed the “quiet side of the island,” and very restful, but the house is only a mile from the Bass Harbor Lighthouse and a 10-minute drive from the Echo Lake beach.

Year Purchased: 1991
About the owner: We live in the Philadelphia area and have been coming to Mount Desert Island (MDI) since 1991. We love the character of Bass Harbor village--the slower pace of life here, the sound of the bell buoys on the water, and the unique beauty and history of MDI. There's no place in the world like it!
Why the Owner Chose Bass Harbor:
Bass Harbor is a active fishing village with a mix of vacationers and year-round residents. We love that our side of the island--the 'Quiet Side'--is not busy or commercial, but has held onto the original character of the area.
