Brand new architect designed house on the East Side. The property consists of a 3 bed/2.5 house and a 1 bed/1 bath casita with a pull out sofa. Walk or ride your bike to everything. Open kitchen layout with custom walnut cabinets, double oven, full size freezer, full size fridge, double sink, Matthew Hilton dining room table that seats up to 14. Double height living room that looks out onto the backyard. Master bedroom (king) has a custom walnut bedframe, a large screen TV, open en suite bathroom with an extra large rain showerhead, double sinks and separate bathtub. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen), a full bath and a deck that overlooks the neighborhood and tree tops. The guesthouse has a full kitchen, large screen TV, sleeper sofa as well as a mezzanine bedroom (queen) with a full bath. This house is an ideal location for SXSW, ACL or F1. My girlfriend and I recently went to visit Austin for a potential job offer and wanted to experience the town as locals, so we chose to stay at Andrew's casita. Due to flight delays we had arrived much later than anticipated, however it worked out quite well as Andrew had provided us an electronic access code to enter the casita, so no key coordination was necessary. Upon entering we were greeted by a gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers and a thoughtful welcome card, explaining the internet and contact information should we need it. The casita looks to be newly built with clean, modern furniture, a big screen TV and a very comfortable bed. Though we really didn't get a chance to use much of it, the casita also has all the luxuries of home including a dishwasher, stove, microwave and mini-fridge. We had a car, so we weren't limited to walking, but had we been there are many places to eat or have a drink nearby. Andrew had provided us a list of things to do/see while in town and all were within 5-10 minutes of the house, so it really is a great location! I highly recommend Sway Thai restaurant for dinner and an afternoon walk along South Congress street for shopping. At night, there is something on 6th street for everyone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Austin, whether you are in the casita or rent the whole house with a group. It was much more cozy and personal than staying in a hotel and a great way to experience the local culture.

We had a group of 10 for SXSW and found Andrew's home to be absolutely ideal. The pictures here look impressive and they aren't lying. One of our party commented, "I feel like I'm living in Dwell magazine." There is tons of light and all the sliders open to let in air - which was perfect during our March stay. The kitchen is amazing - total chef-quality, We had a small dinner party on one night and everyone was blown away. The master bedroom is pretty stunning, including a sweet rain shower. Upstairs bedrooms are very nice as well and - one has a great porch. With two full baths and a half bath in the main house, we had no problem fitting seven people there (three upstairs, two in the master bedroom and two on air mattresses in the living room). The casita is a huge bonus. We were able to comfortably have three people there between the upstairs bed and the fold out couch. It's super cute and would be perfect as a stand-alone space for a weekend getaway in Austin. The location is a decent walk or an easy bus trip to downtown and very close to the river running trails (which our group took advantage of!) and the East Austin neighborhood itself is super fun. Andrew's house definitely sticks out as being *much* grander than the surrounding neighborhood, you'll want to make sure to keep doors locked and be generally cautious, but we felt safe during our stay. This is made quite easy with the convenience of RFID card entry. Great experience, highly recommend this HomeAway!

A few years ago I was traveling from Boston to Austin frequently for work and I just fell in love with the city. The East Side in particular reminded me of all the cool neighborhoods my friends lived in in Silverlake (LA), Williamsburg (Brooklyn) and The Mission (San Francisco). I brought my partner down to visit for a week and we instantly knew that we were going to make East Austin our home. Always a big fan of modern architecture, we hired an architect to design a home with entertaining in mind. We love to cook and the kitchen in this house is a testament to that hobby. We are both over 6' tall so it was important for the spaces to be open and free-flowing. We used to walk everywhere in Boston, so it was also important for us to build in an area close to downtown that was walkable and close to our favorite haunts. On weekends we are forever on foot or bike on our way to a bar or a show.
