My historic house dates back to the 1780's. I have created a large 1600 sq ft Apt. which is street level and has no stairs. There is a private entrance; two large bedrooms with queen size beds; fully equipped spacious kitchen with beautiful dining area; laundry room; large handicapped bathroom; large living room area with a couch that converts into a queen size bed.
The village of Athens is located in the heart of the Hudson Valley. You will be within walking distance of the Hudson River. There is a micro brewery in the old opera house, and the food is quite good. You must take a walk across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge (2 miles). The view is spectacular. For those of you who want to get on the river, the house is only 1/8 of a mile from the state boat launch.
The Catskill Mountains are just 30 minutes away which provide many year round activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, rafting, birdwatching and much more. The village of Woodstock is a must see, especially for you old hippies. Young ones and teens will enjoy it, too.
On the east side of the Hudson River lies Columbia county, and the lovely city of Hudson, NY which is only a 15 min. drive from the house. It is here that you will find the Amtrak train station which will take you to New York City in just two hours. It's a great day trip along the scenic river. Hudson's Warren St. is a must, full of antique stores, art galleries, small retail shops and fine dining. Columbia county has many historical places to visit along with many outdoor activities.
Just west of Columbia county are the Berkshires. Think music, museums and mountains. Western Massachusetts has may great places to visit. Lenox, Mass. is a small village which hosts Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where you can listen to Classical and Jazz concerts on the green. Must book ahead. You can find fine dining and many charming shops, too. Next to Lennox is the village of Stockbridge where you will find The Norman Rockwell Museum.
Rhinebeck, New York is a 30 to 40 minute drive south. It is here you will find many retail shops, fine dining and The Duchess County fairgrounds which has many summer events.
If you decide to come to the Hudson Valley for your vacation, I would love to have you as my quest.

We just got home from a wonderful weekend stay at this Athens apartment. It was even better than the photos show it to be: bright, spacious, clean, cozy and comfortable, with quiet air conditioning units that kept the whole place a great temperature. We were in Upstate NY for the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck and it was easy to get down there and back, with plenty of antiquing along the way. We had a wonderful dinner at Crossroads Brewing Company in Athens, and were able to feel like locals when we caught the fireworks at the boat launch in town on Saturday night. We hope to come back again and would HIGHLY recommend this place to other travelers!

About the owner: I was born in a small Iowa town; went to college In Missouri; and then moved to New York City where I pursued my passion for painting. I am now retired, and live in the upstairs of the house. I am a very social person and will be looking forward to meeting all of you.

                          Why the Owner Chose Hudson:
I love the Hudson River and have spent many years fishing, and taking photos from my boat. Hudson Valley has much to offer, and I love it here. I'm sure you will to. I love old historic houses so I could not pass it by when the Gabriele & Maher 1780s House came on the market.
