Liars' Lagoon (our name for this place) is right on the Laguna Madre in Port Mansfield. This 3 Bedroom 2 Bath house has plenty of room for 2 or 3 couples or 2 families. You'll love catching speckled trout under the lights at night off of your 500' Private Pier.
The Living Room is quite large and connects to the dining area. You'll appreciate the large windows looking right out over the Laguna, and the vaulted ceiling that gives the place an Open Feeling. Satellite TV, DSL internet, washer/dryer, and chest freezer, round out some of the amenities. The kitchen is fully equipped with Fridge/Freezer, Dishwasher, Range and Microwave.
The large deck has room for your family with a table and chairs...what a great place to enjoy the sunrise with a cup of coffee or an ideal place to grill your day's catch in the evening as the boats come in toward the Harbor. There's also a patio below with a picnic table and large grill.
Upstairs is the main living area. Wake up to the sunrise over the Laguna coming in the large windows in the Master Bedroom. It has an elevated king and a twin bed plus a walk-in closet. The mail level bath is very large with a tub shower. There is another smaller bedroom with 2 Twin beds on the mail level, too. All linens are included.
On the lower level is a 600 sq. ft. studio with a large bath (tub/shower), a small fridge, freezer and table. Also there's Satellite TV in the living area.
Many rentals in this area rent out the upstairs and downstairs separately. WE DO NOT. You will not be sharing the pier, parking and patio with strangers.
The Pier has 2 Fish Cleaning Stations, one near the house and the other on the end. Both have electricity and fresh water. Turn the large green and white fishing lights on at dusk and the shrimp will start coming in after a couple of hours. Soon the Speckled Trout will come to dine on the crustaceans and you'll be catching more fish than you thought possible. Not always, mind you, but usually they cooperate.
Port Mansfield is a Fishing Village and little more. It's been rated as one of the to 10 Fishing Spots in the Country. It's 23 miles off the beaten path...the road ends here! Bring your own boat or hire one of the many guides to chase the abundant Trout, Redfish, Flounder and others. Or just fish off of your private pier (night is best on the pier, tho). There are also deep sea guides and sometimes Party Boats.
There are at least 3 excellent restaurants in town, one right on the water. No shopping (unless for tackle and convenience stuff) and no tourist traps. Deer will practically eat out of your hand plus Wild Turkeys and Raccoons aren't uncommon with Javalinas making an occasional appearance. Birding and Kayaking are excellent there, too. If you golf, the Raymondville course is 25 miles away and costs a whopping 14 bucks with a cart! There are more courses in Harlingen 45 minutes away.
The beach is a nine mile boat ride away, but once there, you just may have it to yourself. The Padre Island National Seashore insures that it will never be developed and will remain primitive. You can catch Bull Reds, Trout, Jacks, Mackeral and others right off of the beach or jetties ( I managed to catch a Snook there).

This is a GREAT rental on the water... We have only been home two days and I am ready to go back. Amenities are great!! Beds are SUPER comfy!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We had a great time! The house is very clean and comfortable. The deck is amazing! The private pier is well lit and big. We caught a lot of fish off the pier at night and had a blast. This was a perfect Holiday getaway to get catch some fish and relax! Owner response: Thanks for the kind words- we try hard to make sure our guests get more than they expect. As for the fishing...the numbers of juvenile trout (<15") in the bay is incredible, as you found out. We can't wait for next spring and summer to come around when these guys are bigger and blowing top-water lures out of the water. That said, we did catch a 21, and a few 19ers off the pier in Nov.

About the owner: We (Carl & Connie Bauer) operate a B&B in Buena Vista, Colorado (Liars' Lodge) and bought this house as a getaway between the summer and winter seasons in the mountains. We like to fish, golf, kayak, ski (snow), snowmobile and ride our ATVs.
Why the Owner Chose Port Mansfield:
We love small peaceful communities and Port Mansfield is a peaceful as they come. I like all kinds of fishing, but casting a spoon fly to a tailing redfish, watching him turn and gobble the fly is as good as it gets. There are no better fish to eat on the planet than the combination here of Speckled Trout, Redfish and Flounder. Eat your heart out you Pike eaters!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Grilling the day's catch on the deck watching the sunset, sipping on a gin & tonic, watching the pelicans diving and the boats coming in ... doesn't get any better than that. Well, maybe hauling in trout at night under the lights, sometimes 2 at a time. Or having that first cup of coffee in the morning on the deck before you even get dressed.
