In this quintessential beach-style house, you will be transported to that relaxed state of mind even if it's snowing outside. Step into a calming environment of crisp white walls, comfortable furniture and smooth hardwood floors. There are lots of windows throughout the house, filling every space with light. The living room invites you to kick off your shoes and sink into its cozy couch. Open the windows or turn on the A/C in the summer or turn on the heat and gas fireplaces in the winter.
The first floor has a half-bathroom, dining room, full kitchen, breakfast nook and access to the deck, backyard, basement, and both sets of staircases. The kitchen has ample counter space for multiple culinary projects, stainless steel appliances, a dishwasher and double sink to help with clean up afterwards.
Up the front set of stairs, you'll reach two full bathrooms and three bedrooms painted in Bahamian colors that recall the beach. The third floor, accessed only by the back staircase, leads to a large guest room, master bathroom and master bedroom - all three of which have water views. The master bedroom also has a gas fireplace, wet bar and flat screen TV with cable and Netflix.
Take a right out of the house and you are steps away from the popular Thames St. and Newport Harbor, providing ideal access to top restaurants, shopping, and the water. To the left is the famed Bellevue Avenue, with gourmet groceries, liquor, hardware and Stop N Shop. Bellevue is home to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, as well as the gateway to the Newport Mansions, cliff walk and beaches.
For the active visitors, play a game of tennis on the grass courts at the Hall of Fame; take a scenic run or bike ride along the harbor, cliff walk, across the beach or to Ft. Adams State Park, or rent a boat at Sail Newport for the day.
For the music lovers, try out a guitar at Nicky's Music on Spring St., enjoy nightlife at the House of Blues, catch a concert at the Newport Yachting Center or grab tickets to the Newport Folk & Jazz Festivals.
If everything Newport has to offer has worn you out, shower off in the sun tube bathroom or take a relaxing bubble bath. Cook up a feast in the kitchen, grill out with friends on the backyard deck or order in from any of Newport's amazing restaurants. Enjoy a cold beer, a crisp glass of wine (or a mug of hot cocoa), sit back in the comfy leather lounge chair and have a movie marathon with Netflix Instant Play on the flat screen. Or maybe finish a puzzle, or play a game of cards...
This house has a something for everyone, whether you're looking to explore, shop, eat, or just relax.

Excellent Choice for Vacation Rental
Excellent Choice for Vacation Rental
I rented this house to have a holiday weekend vacation with family & friends. The house is immaculate. Very clean and well stocked. Thorough instructions provided on where or how to find/operate things within the house. Also, it was amazing how quiet it was. Noise didn't travel from one level to the next, as one would expect with an old house. Location is wonderful too. Easy walk to almost anything you could want to do, except the mansion tours. For those, we drove. She included a list of restaurants in the area (exact addresses would be helpful though...the only con I could find to mention). We LOVED the bakery the 1/2 block up on Spring Street!! Thanks for everything!! Kristin

Like Staying at A Friend's Home
Like Staying at A Friend's Home
This impeccably renovated antique home is comfortable, accommodating and beautifully maintained. Great care was done with the professional renovation and it feels like you are staying at a friend's house. The owner has provided quality furnishings and many little extras for comfort. The house, and I agree with another reviewer, is much larger then the pictures give sense of. The bedrooms, which are on the second and third floors, are comfortable and decorated most pleasingly with quilts on the beds and very nice custom artwork on the walls. The 3 upstairs remodeled bathrooms are plentiful and spacious and accommodate the 5 bedrooms nicely. There are two walk in showers and a large tub. There is also a half bath off the living room. The open areas, living/dining room/kitchen, are very comfortable for watching TV, reading or just relaxing. I am a cook and was very happy with the size of and state of the art amenities of the kitchen. There was ample kitchenware/cookware and we prepared Thanksgiving dinner and a birthday celebration while there. There is much to walk to from this location and we did. Many shops, some restaurants and the marina area are a block away in one direction, on Thames St. There is a nice park with the library and a children's playground area, as well as the Stop & Shop, just a little bit further in the other direction off of Spring St. It is a longer but very doable walk, also, to the main section of the waterfront on America's Cup Ave where there are galleries, more shops and some very nice restaurants along the waterside.. Whether walking or driving, this home is really in a very desirable location for enjoying the heart of historic Newport. We did the tour of The Breakers mansion, walked on the Cliff Walk, and checked out the local state parks (Fort Adams & the museum there is seasonal so you will need to check ahead for that). Those activities necessitate a car but there is parking readily available. The owner provided a very nice, personally updated list of restaurants and activities in Newport as well as guidebooks for our convenience. The back yard is nicely accommodating for BBQ activity and with a small lawn and seating area for children to play in in the warmer weather. We very much enjoyed our time at Squareknot. Working with the owner was a pleasure and the home was immaculate and ready for our arrival. I would certainly recommend this property.

Amazing Family & Friends Get-Away House!
Amazing Family & Friends Get-Away House!
I recently stayed at Squareknot in Newport, RI with my family and absolutely loved it. The location is excellent. The house is just a block away from great shopping and restaurants yet is set back just enough on a quaint and quiet New England street. The charming wharf where you will find shopping, sunset sails, fresh seafood, and amazing restaurants is also within walking distance as is the Cliff Walk (walk along the water while checking out beautiful mansions). The house itself was exactly as shown in pictures, if not better because the rooms were much bigger in real life. Each room was extremely clean, well-kept, and very comfortable. There was a lovely backyard with a deck, table, and hammock which was perfect for warm summer days and nights. We cooked the majority of our meals in the functional kitchen, which had everything needed, and felt like locals due to the house being so well stocked. The owner was wonderful to work with. She was quick to answer any questions and made sure that we were comfortable even though she lives hundreds of miles away. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed their stay at Squareknot and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Newport!

We have stayed in a dozen VRBO homes over the last ten years and this one is at the top of our list! A fantastic renovation (pictures do not do it justice) with an excellent location. House was spotless, fresh flowers on the table and the a/c already humming upon on our arrival. Kitchen had all the equipment one could want and having the washer dryer downstairs was great for our young sailor's wet clothes. The master bedroom on the top floor was magical, along with the bed (full size) there was a small table, fireplace, wet bar and TV. Master bath (although shared with another bedroom on the same floor) has a huge walk-in shower. The second floor has three nice sized rooms and two bathrooms and the first floor has a small powder room with open kitchen, dining room living room. Nice flat-screen TV over the fireplace with remotes that actually make sense! Parking is a bit tight, we had three large cars and had to juggle the driveway and street parking (street parking is restricted, but the owners provided a pass). Neighbors were very accommodating and gave us great advice on grocery shopping, parking and restaurants. While there is a gas grill and table in the back yard, along with a hammock - it was not as inviting as the rest of the house and does not match the new landscaping in the front of the house. The houses in this neighborhood are quite close together and the yards are tiny. We spent most of the day out so having a large yard and outdoor space was not a priority for us. A quick walk down Extension Street brings you to Thames street and a host of nice restaurant and shops, some a bit touristy but not overwhelmingly so. We were there during the week so there were not big crowds. Grocery store is with walking distance up on Bellevue, although if you are doing a big shop better to drive. We enjoyed Rosemary and Thyme cafe (right on Spring Street a minute from the house) AMAZING for breakfast and lunch - we were asked to leave some of the muffins and scones for other customers! The owners have thought of everything - even down to a cooler and chairs for a trip to the beach. Linens and towels were good quality and there was an abundance of paper towels, light bulbs and batteries (the reserve battery in our smoke detector died and starting beeping at 2 in the morning, but lo and behold, the owners had a cache of 9 volt batteries in the kitchen) The house was perfect for us and the owners were very accommodating. We'd certainly book again!
