About the owner: Both of us work in the boating field here in the area. We both grew up on the Island and have been on the water all our lives both recreationally and professionally. We have put our house in the rental market because we have built a new one in the area.
Why the Owner Chose Southwest Harbor: The High Road is a nice street on which to live with quiet traffic and planned house lots and trees. It is an old street but was planned (or developed) in the early 1930s with the planting of the Linden trees and the large property lots. It's a great location to walk to town or walk over the mill dam and loop around back.
The Unique Benefits at this House: This house was built with an architect and the layout is well designed. The craftsman-style living room with cathedral ceiling and stone fireplace makes for a cozy evening in front of the fire. Also, the South facing deck directs the eyes to a large field toward the harbor. Staying here affords a short walk to the two town docks and wharves selling lobsters as well as downtown where there are great shops and restaurants to enjoy, as well as the post office, market, gift shops, and hardware store. The town supports a lovely library as well--all within walking distance. Southwest Harbor is unique here on Mount Desert Island in that it is the only town that is busy and open all 12 months of the year.
