If you're looking for an authentic lakeside cottage experience to enjoy some time with gorgeous Lake St Catherine and Mother Nature, this may be the spot for you. This cottage was built in the early 1900's, as were many around the lake. Sadly, many of the original cottages have been torn down or 'improved' beyond recognition. Nice for them, but some of us still enjoy the feel of the original vintage buildings. So we've elected to keep the spirit of the Lake alive with this property - low key furnishings, low maintenance property, plenty of room to spread out, relax, or entertain, and reasonable rental pricing. While clean and comfortable and usual amenities, the house and property are low-key and offer a true chance to 'unplug'. There is no TV or internet at this cottage, and cell service spotty (due to mountains - can't do much about that! Landline/house phone on site for local and emerg calls). It's amazing what you hear/see/smell/feel with just your senses to keep you amused! Start with a beautiful drive along the lake to get you to the cottage driveway. Step out of your car and get immediately immersed in pine-scented mountain air. Feel the crunch of pine needles and pine cones underfoot. Hear the screen door slam as you come into the maple cabinet kitchen. Go a few steps further into the living room with the wood stove, comfortable wicker chairs, and braided rugs. Just beyond that, the screen porch...rocking chairs, dining table, daybed, lots of pillows. See the sunshine bouncing off the lake. Listen to the birds chirping. Better yet, head down the pine-needle pathway to the lake, jump off the dock into the cool lake, and swim out to the float. Grab a kayak and head out towards the nearby island. Come back to the house and let your bare feet enjoy the slate patio. Take pictures? Get the binoculars out? Read a book? Write a letter by hand? This place is heaven on earth if you want to love the lake for the life it has offered for many generations. Hope you will take the time to enjoy it! Cottage open June - early October (not winterized), and for full weeks only. Please don't overlook fall for a visit - absolutely lovely in quieter season! Thank you for viewing our listing, and hope you can find some time this year or next to visit! Again, please note - no internet, no TV or DVD, no washer/dryer, no motorboat. Cell phone service very limited. If you want to be 'off the grid', this is a great spot!

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We love, love, love Lake St Catherine, and hope other families can enjoy its unique and wonderful spirit.
Why the Owner Chose Lake St. Catherine: Our family has deep roots in the area - my husband's great grandfather began bringing the family to Lake St Catherine over 100 years ago. Several branches of the family have purchased homes around the lake. We bought this in 2008 because it was one of the last 'authentic' lake cottages, and the other family properties were getting overcrowded! We love the pine lined driveway, the waterviews on two sides, the view of the bay from the dock, the wonderful protected swimming area, the birds that are always flying around, and the warm friendly feel in the neighborhood. Easy access to area amenities - Wells (Here and Now Gallery, the fresh produce, fabulous baked goods, and petting zoo at Wellsmere Farm, and the warm ambiance and delicious homemade donuts at the Wells Country Store/aka Julies); Poultney (home of the fabulous Perrys for breakfast, incredible service at Williams Hardware, and beautiful campus of Green Mountain College); nearby Granville NY(wonderful Pember Library and Museum); a little farther out is lovely Manchester and Dorset (great villages, outlet shopping, Hildene/Robert Todd Lincoln House); Stratton and Bromley.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: Tremendous authentic lakeside feel! Located on a peninsula, surrounded by two bays. Comfortable low maintenance house and property. If you are looking to unplug, or to find a quiet place to read, relax, paint, or journal, or visit with friends/family, this cottage may be the answer - relaxed feel to cottage, beautiful spot. We hope you can create your own memories please note - no TV, no internet, and no cell service unless you go down the road to intersection of Bullfrog Hollow and West Lake Road!
