great location in Slate Run
great location in Slate Run
Cabin very nice. Twin bed in the laundry room a bit odd to call it a bedroom. The grill was in very bad shape, but caretaker got new one for us, just in time to make dinner on the grill. Caretaker very easy to contact & helpful. Used the fire pit, very nice & relaxing w/great backdrop of mountains. Beautiful view from deck. joined up w/my brother's family. Brought our own kayaks & bicycles. Did a 1 hr kayak run on the Pine Creek one day. Contacted Pine Creek Outfitters a few days ahead of time & arranged a pickup at the Slate Run parking area, for a bike ride. They drove us up to Ansonia, PA (~ 1hr ride). We took the 30 mile rails-to-trail back down to Slate Run with our bicycles. Perfect weather (well, a little hot/humid). Then cooled off in the Pine Creek near the cabin.

Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I am a Geneticist and a retired University Dean of Science and Math at a Pennsylavnia State System of Higher Education University. I am an avid outdoorsman, flyfisher, hiker, golfer, and tennis player. I live in Lancaster, Pa.
Why the Owner Chose Wellsboro:
I bought this property when I retired in 1999 after visiting this beautiful mountainous area for decades to enjoy the Pennsylvania wild areas and to fly fish on the many streams located nearby. This log home was originally built as a retirement home, and the sixteen acre site was used by the Pa. Game Commission to conduct studies on Black Bear. Black Bear, Turkey and Deer continue to frequent the property. The Rails-to-Trails bicycle route is located at the foot of the driveway.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Unique benefits is the private 16.5 acre site includes a private catch and release trout pond, and grass carp pond. There are wonderful opportunities to observe wildlife. Excellent hiking trails in the area, outstanding fishing, a scenic bicycle path extending over forty miles along Pine Creek, and the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular displays of spring flowers and fall colors.
