Gouldsboro house description
This lovely home is new to the vacation rental market for 2013. For the past 15 years this has been our home, however we have relocated to Winter Harbor, just three miles away. Since this is a new rental we have no reviews at this time.
Located at the doorstep of Acadia National Park's Schoodic Peninsula...just a 1/2 mile walk into the national from the home. We are in the village of Bunkers Harbor and this home offers ocean views that extend over the spruce-clad rock bound coast with dramatic breaking surf, lobster boats and a lighthouse in the distance. Named “Harbor Treasure”, this home has the charm and elegance of a traditional seaside cottage yet all the amenities for modern convenient living. The porch across the front of the house beckons one to linger and enjoy the sounds of the sea. The perfect place to read, relax, enjoy a glass of wine and savor the peace and quiet.
The large bonus room is set up as a master suite with a king size bed and living room furniture, overlooking the spectacular view. On the other half of the house the upstairs has two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed. The front bedroom room overlooks the ocean and the guest bedroom has it's own private deck. There are two full bathrooms, one between the two bedrooms upstairs and the other on the first floor. The other rooms in the house include a galley kitchen, a separate prep-kitchen, a sunroom, a living room, and dining room. There is a two car garage, a covered front porch and a side deck both with ocean views. The home sets up perfectly for two families to easily share with both common and private spaces. The total square footage is 2000 so there is plenty of room. The home has enough beds to sleep 6, however there is plenty of floor space for sleeping bags and air mattresses. There is one queen size mattress available at the home.
Other amenities are a dishwasher, gas fireplace, washer, dryer, gas grill, high speed internet, cable television, built in speakers with stereo unit and a local land line. All bedding and linens are included. No additional cleaning fee. Purchase lobster fresh off the boat the say day it is caught, less than a mile away.

We had a great stay in Maine celebrating the wedding of dear friends. The home was more than adequate for 2 adults and 2 children. We were able to spread out and enjoy every aspect of the house- the spacious back and side yards, the deck and the 3 bedrooms and a bonus was a nice selection of games for us to play. If we go back to Maine in the near future, we would love to stay again.

Owner response: Thank you for vacationing with us and for taking such great care of our home. We hope that you went home with many wonderful memories.
We recently returned from a few days spent at this cottage at the Schoodic Peninsula. Valerie & Bob were very helpful with the planning and execution of our stay. Our family of four, including a 16 & 13 yr old, enjoyed both the location and amenities this property offered. We only wish we had a few extra days so we could have explored more of Winter's Harbor and the surrounding area. We did, however, drive over to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, spending the day hiking and exploring. The area was very crowded, though, so we were happy to head back to the quiet of Birch Harbor. We had hoped to bike and/or kayak at Acadia in Schoodic but the weather did not permit. The location of this cottage is ideal for such activities. We were awed by the crashing waves at Schoodic Point, as well as our ability to get so close to the surf. This, we feel, offered the best feel for Maine's coastline and its surrounding beauty. Thanks to Valerie and Bob for making our trip to Maine so enjoyable.

Owner response: We love sharing our little piece of heaven here in Maine and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the four of you. We've been blessed to have the most gracious guests such as you to enjoy our home. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of the property!
We recently rented this house for a week with two small children and 4 adults and had a great experience and felt the area and house was a great value. First the area has a great small town feel to it. There are a few quality restaraunts, a reasonably priced grocery store in winters harbor, a great general store, and a few unique art galleries, antique stores etc to roam around in. Essentially everything you need is within a 5 minute drive. Second, the location of the house is near the park. So I really enjoyed the bike rides around the loop, the hiking trails up to schoodic point with awesome views, and kayaking the various harbors etc. we also took advantage of Jordan's lake which our children loved swimming in and was a great space for kayaking, as well as sandys cove which was the lone beach in the area. We also took one day to visit bar harbor and one day to visit Acadia national park, both of which were extremely busy with tourists and made us appreciate the tranquility of the schoodic peninsula even more when we returned. Finally the house is great. It was extremely clean, with everything you could need in the kitchen etc. our kids loved the special loft area above the garage and claimed it their domain for the week, where the adults had plenty of space with the rest of the house. The sun room and front porch, both with excellent views of the ocean were our favorites. The large yard came in handy for playing with the children and the two car garage was useful to load and unload everything and store items during the week. The owners did a great job and were very professional and helpful throughout our booking and stay. They really went out of their way to acclimate us to the area by leaving a locals guide to the area and giving us special tips of some special "don't miss spots" that led to some special memories that we otherwise would not have discovered on our own. Thanks to bob and Val and we hope to return again soon.

We had a blast
We had a blast
We had a blast in this lovely cottage. It is very spacious and clean, tastefully decorated, the view is fantastic, you could see lobster boats passing by right from the bedroom window, It is a short walk to the Acadia national Park's schoodic point, 45 minutes drive to bar harbor and the main portion of Acadia. The town is very quiet, a great escape from the busy tourist area at night yet close enough to enjoy the beauty at day time. There are restaurants and bars nearby, a small grocery store. We also bought lobster directly for the lobster boat. The cottage is stocked with all the amenities you would need, from towels to big lobster pots, it has a big yard for the kids to run around, BBQ on the deck and enjoy the night sky, bring a lot of bug repellent though. We stayed for 3 nights, hope we could stay longer. Highly recommended!

Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: My husband and I are both Maine natives, having grown up in northern Maine. We love the coast, nature and the quiet lifestyle that this area offers. We live 3 miles from this home, having moved last year to relocate our business.
Why the Owner Chose Gouldsboro:
My Dad purchased this property in 1987 and it was a summer rental property with him for several years. In 1997 we purchased the cottage from him and moved here full time. Over the next year we made numerous upgrades and changes along with the large addition. We fell in love with Winter Harbor Lighthouse on Mark Island, the night sky, and Acadia National Park. We never tire of natural beauty around us, after 15 years of living here it is still surreal at times.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The drama of the ocean is every changing and the spectacular night sky is one of the best in the entire northeast. You can walk into Acadia National Park just 1/2 mile away to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
