This newly renovated home is a delightful combination of modern conveniences, idyllic setting and Vineyard charm. It is an ideal spot for all ages because of its proximity to the private beach ( 40 yards away) and the expansive deck overlooking the Vineyard Sound. There is access to this deck by outdoor stairs, through the master bedroom or from the adjoining sitting area. The refrigerator is handy for iced drinks and snacks while entertaining on the deck.
The capacious living area integrates the kitchen, dining room and living room so everyone can be included in conversations and indoor activities. Drinking and dining, while looking out on the Sound, is a very enjoyable experience. The full bath off the living room leads to the outer shower and backyard- a convenient place to wash off sandy feet and to hang sodden clothes.
At the top of the stairs is an open sitting area- actually a large room with informal kitchen facilities and pull-out couch- with access to the full bath and the deck. One of the two bedrooms off the den has twin beds; the other has a queen size bed and half bath. The master bedroom, which also abuts the sitting area is really large with extraordinary views of the sea. Having coffee in bed in the morning gives you a sense of luxury, relaxation and peace.

The location of the house is well suited for bikers and hikers alike, with easy access to town. The Tashmoo Woods trail is 200 yards away, and the regional bus stops nearby. Since the northern 'chop' doesn't have tourist buses or shops, the area is much more peaceful than one might expect in a a 'Down Island' summer community.
The water is clear, the house is ideal and the location is both convenient and quiet.

My husband and I have been renting this property for the past 10 years, and we will continue to come back. It is a wonderful place to relax. The deck overlooking Nantucket Sound is one of our favorite places. The private beach is terrific. We would recommend this place to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We have rented this fully equipped,comfortable, and clean beach house for nine summers. The view from the deck is lovely and relaxing watching the boats sail by. Having an additional upstairs kitchen is quite convenient. At the quiet beach one can swim and surf cast for strippers and blue fish. The house has three parking places, and the walk around West Chop is beautiful. We can't wait for July 2011.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

This house cannot be beat -- its location SO close to the finest beach, its to-die-for view of the Vineyard Sound, its commodious living space with a lovely fireplace, its super kitchen -- one of us is a pretty serious chef, and there is plenty of room for culinary creativity and all the handy pots and pans anyone could wish for. And the bedrooms are perfect -- with the kitchen upstairs the early birds among us were able to begin our daily concoctions. The upstairs deck is really big and it's wonderful to relax up there looking at the water. Lastly, the owners welcome pets and children. We haven't found anything nicer in all our years of traveling.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We're delighted to read this review. As the visitors say, it would be difficult to find a better spot for everyone from grandmothers to toddlers. Their dog- very obedient- adored chasing gulls and trying to keep up with the kids, while the older folk enjoyed themselves on the deck. In our minds, it would be hard to find anything we are missing. And should there be something needed, chances are we can find it for you.

I love this house! It's spacious yet cozy and comfortable. It's conveniently located near town, especially with the bus system, but is quiet and private It has great views of the Vineyard Sound and the mainland and the beach is a very short walk away. About the owner: We have been on the Island for generations, involved in everything from tennis and sailing to town politics and the marine environment. We do our best the retain the traditions of the Vineyard without ignoring the importance of energy efficiency, stormwater remediation and protecting the land. We enjoy picnicking at the Tashmoo inlet and attending the music and art shows at Featherstone Gallery.
Why the Owner Chose Vineyard Haven:
We inherited this from my family, decades and decades ago.We have grown to love every aspect of Vineyard life. This is where our kids had their first jobs and where my husband and I thoroughly enjoy the sailing, tennis and swimming.
