This is the guesthouse adjoining a historic Austin property in the west campus neighborhood. It is situated on Carringtons Bluff, overlooking downtown Austin and Pease park. It is located adjacent to Shoal Creek, 8 blocks from the University of Texas campus and 1 mile from the Texas Capitol building. Close to bus-stops and only one block from Pease Park, which has hike and bike trails going all the way to the river. The porches upstairs and down overlook a large lawn and beautiful views of downtown and the park.
The guesthouse consists of two levels. The kitchen and living area are on the main floor and the two bedrooms and full bath are upstairs.

More about this property: Located adjacent to Shoal Creek, and prior to the days of refrigeration, this property was originally used as an early Austin dairy farm. The oldest portion of the structure and porch was built around 1877.
By 1911 store owner Charles W. Morrison and his wife Mary had purchased the property and reconfigured the previous wooden structure to now face magnolia street. This is the current ground floor of the main house. Its lofted ceilings and expansive double hung windows made it well situated to capture breezes blowing above the bluff.
In 1922, Joseph O’Reilly, a store owner and agent for the Texas oil company (Texaco), purchased the property. By 1935 O’reilly added the west addition to the main house. This addition has airy upstairs bedrooms and a ground floor expansive bay window, capturing wonderful views of the Austin skyline through the branches of an impressively large live oak tree.
By 1938 19th street was relocated to the south and is now known as Martin Luther King Boulevard. Also during that time the stairs on the west of the property headed down the cliff-side to a chicken coop and goat pen. In 1949 renovation of the house resulted in replacement of the original wooden front porch with concrete.
In 1958, Kathleen Molesworth purchased the home. Prior to purchasing the home she had a significant career in the foreign service during WWII and was also the first female to be awarded an MBA from the University of Texas. Her influence on the house is remembered by the remodeling the exterior of the ground floor with stucco, addition of two bathrooms in the main house. After her death in 1984, her nephew Nick Classen inherited the property. He constructed the guest house addition creating a duplex property. It was during this time that the property was first used as a boarding house and then a bed a breakfast. Carrington bluff bed and breakfast was celebrated as a venue for weddings and a perennial tailgate location for many years.
There are 5 bedrooms, and 5 baths in the main house, along with kitchen, dining room, living room and a large utility room. Details of interest include a well drafting fireplace and long leaf pine floors.
The two story guesthouse addition has two bedrooms, 1 ½ bathrooms, and an open kitchen/breakfast/ family room with wood floors.

This historic property is walking distance to the University of Texas campus, numerous restaurants, plentiful shopping, and Whole Foods grocery. Just across the street from Pease Park, the Carrington house is a few blocks from the downtown Austin museum and entertainment district.

About: Tim and Karrie founded the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas and have lived in a historic home a block away from the Carrington House for over eight years. They love the neighborhood so much, they will raise their family here and intend to grow old(er) here.
Valerie lives in the neighborhood as well, and manages the Carrington House and adjoining Carriage House. She is a native Austinite.
Why Old Enfield: We purchased the historic Carrington House for two reasons: first we did not want the property to be compromised by a possible conversion to student housing and second, we use the property to house our visiting managers who are training here in Austin.
