My husband and I stayed there for a week. The cottage exceeded all of our expectations. We had stayed different VRBO houses in the past, but this place was the most luxurious, cleanest, perfectly decorated, and most of all, so relaxing because it is situated in the wooded area. The owner, Jerry was very friendly and nice yet gave us a plenty of privacy during the stay. I was very pleased with the high-end kitchen equipments, good quality pots and pans, and utensils. We will happily stay there again when we come back to the area.

Owner response: I am thankful for the incredible stay guests like Misa & Jeffrey, who stay and enjoy the gardens and forests for their life and tranquility. Thank You, Jerry

This place is amazing. Jerry did an amazing job at putting this place together. He has though of everything in this luxury experience. We had a really great time, great location, great place to relax, just an overall great place. There really isn't one thing negative I could say about the place. Jerry made sure we were welcomed and treated us like royalty.

I was looking for a place to get away for about a week, seeking quiet, but close to Eureka, Ferndale, Trinidad and the ocean, and all that Humboldt county has to offer for exploration. The Cottage was perfect. The accommodations are luxurious, the cottage warm and inviting. A full kitchen and washer/dryer, and high speed wi-fi made my 7 day stay easy and relaxing. And the surround sound system installed was a lovely feature for listening to Mozart during the winter storms. The view of the Redwoods and pond from the living room window and bedroom french doors is spectacular. What added to my week was the weather... cold storms blew through, and some snow arrived early one morning!!! Beautiful. The owners are great, welcoming, and respectful of my privacy. I arrived at 4pm and felt at home by 5pm. This is a wonderful cottage. Thank you!!

Owner response: That Denise found solice in her stay and delight in this special place in winter, is all that this innkeeper can ask for. "Very special" guests have stayed during each season as testament to the wonders of the 'Chateau' forest moments. Soon to arrive, for their fourth visit, R & C delight in the escape that this redwood forest provides. You are always welcome Denise. Thank You, Jerry

Our two-night stay in Chateau Krupberg was extraordinary. This aesthetically and functionally pleasing house nestled in an enchanted forest was even more wonderful than we expected from the website description. It was so satisfying to stay in a custom environment created with the guest in mind. The builder/hosts got it right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We look forward to returning, which is our finest recommendation.

Owner response: We are so fortunate to reside is such a magical place with the constant companionship of the deer, birds, squirrels, fox, raccoon and countless other creatures. It is a sincere pleasure to be able to share all of this with the special guests such as Barbara & Patricia and we welcome their return, as well as YOUR first stay in the 'Chateau' forest. Thank You, Jerry

We stayed at the Chateau for a few nights while visiting northern California, and it was just what we needed. It is a beautiful peaceful spot, especially if you plan to spend some of your time just relaxing there. The pictures of this place do not actually do it justice. As well, it is ideally located for doing sightseeing in the redwoods and along the north coast. We enjoyed meeting Jerry, the owner, and appreciate all the work he has put into this cottage to make it such a great place to stay. We hope to come back again someday. We definitely recommend the chateau for your north coast stay.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner response: Ryan & Michelle got to see more of the north coast redwood forests from this perfect pivot point but more importantly they got to see more of one another and to immerse themselves in one anothers companionship. The 'Chateau' is the place for being together as a couple and taking advantage of an incredible location. Another special Krupberg congrats for your 10th and many, many more. Thanks Jerry

Chateau Krupberg was a fabulous nest in the spectacular Redwoods. Jerry has spared no expense in this rental, making it beautiful and comfortable. We spent a week enjoying the Northern California Coast, and this was a perfect home-away-from-home. From the heron in the pond, to the chipmunk on the stump, to the hummingbirds, to the soaring trees, nature surrounded us all week. We cooked many meals in the well-stocked kitchen and also enjoyed the local restaurants. We highly recommend this hideaway.

Owner response: I am so joyful when our guests are able to enjoy the delights of this incredible redwood forest. The 'Chateau' is always waiting for the Dans & Staceys to arrive and immerse themselves in the splender of the moment. Thank you and welcome back anytime, Jerry

The chateau is exactly as the pictures show. the ammenities are excellent and host was accommodating for any of our needs. A very quiet place to stay and wonderful to come back to after hiking all day in the redwwods. We highly recommend this rental.

Owner response: Richard & Terrie discovered that the 'Chateau' is not only the very finest stay opportunity on the "North Coast" but your automobile can, within minutes, transport you too the most grandiose redwood forests filled with splendid hiking trails, rushing mountain rivers for rafting, or secluded miles of ocean beaches for a stroll with your companion. We are perfectly situated, amongst our private redwood forest, between the sister "Humboldt Bay" cities of Arcata and Eureka. Making this the perfect place to be and my personal guarantee that you will not be disappointed by your stay. Thank You so much R&T, Jerry

Chateau Krupberg is a study in serenity, elegance, and artistry. Our stay at this lovely gatehouse afforded us a beautiful launch to northern California's Redwood Country and a quiet, restful return each afternoon/evening. The owners combined thoughtfulness in the design of both the house and the extraordinary grounds to give visitors a unique immersion into northern California at its best. Thank you, Jerry. Our stay was absolutely delightful!

Owner response: The 'Chateau's forest property is centrally located so that you are minutes from the most prized "Old Growth" forests, hiking trails, and ocean shores in the world. We are citiuatied just far enough off the roadways, between Eureka & Arcata, to make it private and yet near enough for the convenieces. Thank You so much Thom & Sally for your stay and you are always welcome to have a future stay with us. Jerry

We were considering ending our vacation in Northern California early...until we got to the Chateau Krupberg and changed our minds. We spent two nights in this beautiful cottage--very private--and set in the middle of a forest with landscaped grounds that enhance the forest feel. We could not have been happier with our choice of accomodations or the service and hospitality we were offered. Jerry is so gracious and kind and we felt welcome from the start. Chateau Krupberg is elegant yet easy and comfortable. It is perfect for relaxation and is a terrific way to spend time in the woods without the work of camping. Having owned a bed & breakfast, we are aware of so many of the details that make a place special. The welcoming atmosphere, attention to detail in spacious and beautiful rooms, superior cleanliness, well appointed full kitchen and grounds to walk and enjoy, make this a very special place. We highly recommend the Chateau Krupberg and are looking forward to when the "Raven's Nest" addition is completed and we can bring friends with us!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: It turned out that Dean was also an admirer of the incredible hummingbird and Jeanne was so accomodating to allow me to drone on and on about "Lemmon Ma'Ganna", our resident Magnificent x Anna's male hybrid (the only yellow hummer on the planet). Dean got an introduction and I was so glad to have this wonderful couple stay and participate in the magic the 'Chateau' has to offer. We are within months of completing the "raven's nest" and is it going to be spectacular. Thanks Jeanne & Dean, Jerry

My husband and I have to have our "redwood" fix at least once a year and Chateau Krupberg is by far the very best! You actually never had to leave as you had your "own" redwood forest right outside your door. And, believe me, you did not want to leave as the gate cottage had everything you could have wished for and more. We knew what to expect as our friends recommended Jerry's place but to experience the peace, beauty and tranquility of the cottage was like heaven on earth. If you are looking for an exquisitely appointed and totally private cottage, this place is for you. Thank you, Jerry, for providing such luxury in the redwoods. We truly appreciated the care you took in making the cottage so exquisite and even more that you are sharing it with so many lucky guests. We are trying to get our hands on a copy of Birding Magazine so we can see your famous and beautiful Lemmon hummingbird in print! We also can't wait to see "Raven's Nest" completed. We might just have to check it out for ourselves next year!

    Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: ABA "Birding", September edition, has gone to press and should be in the hands of members any day now. I do hope that you get to see the article which will introduce, to the world, the first Magnificent x Anna's male hybrid (yellow crown/throat) hummingbird. I am so glad that Bob & Donna stayed with us at the 'Chateau' and hope that they will return for a stay in the incredible "raven's nest" which will open in 2013. Thank You, Jerry

HE SAID: Frank Lloyd Wright said," Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you." Chateau Krupberg presents visitors with the ideal setting to do all these things. Hidden away at the crest of Pigeon Point Road, the Cottage is the perfect location for quiet contemplation. It's also a strategic point of embarkation for exploring the wonders of the surrounding countryside. On our visit we viewed the spectacular seaside vistas of Patrick's Point State Park. We hiked the trails of Redwood National and State Parks. We saw Big Tree, Fern Canyon and the Tall Trees area. We went birding in Arcata, We shopped at the local Farmer's Markets. We attended an Open Mic in Eureka. Each night we returned to the cottage to relax and to refresh ourselves. The Cottage at Chateau Krupberg is the pinnacle of the builders art. Superior craftsmanship evident in every aspect of the structure. Everything is exactly where it's supposed to be. Every door, every drawer, every handle is perfectly fitted. Every detail is attended. So, all you have to do is relax, just relax. SHE SAID: I loved our stay at Chateau Kruberg. I couldn’t have been more lovely, perfect, relaxing, and more than I ever expected. Let me tell you what I loved about this property … Jerry’s cottage. (1) The kitchen – the countertops, cabinets, coffee maker, refrigerator, oven, every cooking utensil that we could possible need … even Tupperware!! (2) the living room/dining room – the beautiful table and chairs, the heated floor, the art on the wall, the comfortable couch and chair, big picture window to look out onto our loving surroundings; (3) the bathroom – the huge shower, tile floor, sink, beautiful cabinets to store all my toiletries; (4) the bedroom – the beautiful art, the large walk-in closet & dresser to store all of our thing, skylight window; sliding glass doors that went out to our deck; (5) Deck and landscaping – having coffee each morning on our deck overlooking the pond; watching the humming birds and looking at all the beautiful, old redwood trees. If you have any doubt as how beautiful Chateau Kruberg is … I told Jerry that he should charge admission to view his property. Since we returned to Atlanta, GA I have been motivated to do more landscaping in our yard. (Jerry, would you like to come visit/help us??? PLEASE!!) Rita and Louie, Atlanta, GA

Owner response: An architect will shape his vision, the builder places this sculture in setting, and the decorator adorns in order to perfect. Then the most import chain ingredient must occur; The Viewer who will appreciate and delight in this creation. If it were not "the Rita's" and "the Louie's" to appreciate and enjoy, all would be for not. My heartfelt THANK YOU, for your stay with us in the "gate cottage" and soon we will present its sister stay, "raven's nest". Jerry

What a magical place! My husband and I stayed here as a "base camp" for hiking in the Redwood forests for an entire week. We were immediately impressed by the breathtaking grounds which are painstakingly tended to by the owner (this observation from a fellow gardener). The photos simply don't do it justice. When you walk the property there are little treasures to be discovered all over the place! We even had a sweet little doe visit us on our first morning. It is quiet, tranquil and restorative. There is a sense of "Good Karma" that permeates this wonderful place which is perpetuated by all of the visitors and the owner. We love to cook on our vacations and the kitchen is well appointed (so well that I ordered the salt and pepper grinders online to arrive when we got home). The appliances are top notch and all the cookware you need to prepare a gourmet meal is provided. Having the radiant heated floor felt so wonderful on our toes on the cool mornings and evenings. The star-gazing on the deck off the bedroom at night is unbeatable. The owner has provided upgrades to everything including furnished shampoo, soap, plush towels, coffee and a nice bottle of wine upon arrival. The cottage was built with an appreciation for the best and it shows. The attention to comfort and convenience abounds. My husband especially enjoyed the "sky windows" as I termed them (they are sky lights that open to ventillate the bathroom and the kitchen with the click of a remote). The owner is helpful, friendly and very available - thank you Jerry!! The cottage is conveniently located close to a local Safeway, waterfront dining and national parks. It's a great place to stay if you like to get up and go. However, there is a lot to be said for just staying put and appreciating the scenery right outside the front door! When you sit on the deck or the bench by the Koi pond all you hear is...........nature and the waterfall to the Koi pond. We had a wonderful, peaceful stay and will certainly come back to the cottage without a second thought!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: Even though this started out as a necessary business undertaking for me, I have found great emotional fulfillment and take a strong measure of pride in being able to make my guests vacation/holiday dreams come true. May all who search for the perfect stay on the North Coast, find it at the Chateau Krupbereg. Look for our permanent guest, Lemmon Ma'Ganna, a Magnificent x Anna's hybrid hummingbird featured in American Birding Association's, Birding magazine SEPTEMBER 2012 edition. The only YELLOW hummingbird living on this planet. Are we ever fortunate to have an opportunity to share this space with him. I am very grateful for Kevin & Sue's visit and hope that they will return soon for a second visit. We will open the RAVEN'S NEST in 2013. Thank You, Jerry

There is always that slight bit of uncertainty when booking a vacation location online. Do the pictures accurately reflect what you'll see when you arrive? Will it meet your expectation? Well, I want to reassure you that the pictures don't even come close to reflecting this awesome and amazing location. We even attempted to capture pictures to reflect what we saw and felt during our stay and it is just not possible. The attention to detail was incredible. From the fence surrounding the property to the beautifully decorated interior this place simply rocked!!! If you have ever stayed at one of the Omni resort locations, I can reassure you that for us, this Chateau wins hands down!! The shower...oh my!! The views...oh my!! Owner Jerry was amazing!! Our visit was in celebration of my husbands birthday and Jerry came out to greet and welcome us to the Chateau, taking the time to acknowledge Tim's birthday. Who does that??? Loved! Location worked really well for us. Our goal was to do some hiking/biking in the Redwoods. We were able to hit several locations within approximately 15-30 minutes of the Chateau with the furthest being an hour north. Do not skip Patricks Point! It was awesome! Also, make sure you do the hikes associated with the Redwood auto tour! Well worth it!!! The kitchen at the Chateau is immaculate; however, we ate breakfast each morning at The Chalet in Eureka. It was recommended to us by a local ambulance driver and we loved it!! The staff was amazing!! By the end of the week our waiter was sharing family photo's. Jerry did mention they are working on renovating an additional location on property, which I can only imagine will be just as exquisite!! We can hardly wait to return!!! Amazing Place!!

We've stayed all over the U.S. in vacation rentals and this was by far the best ever. We went to tour the redwoods and the coast line, but almost didn't want to leave the vacation rental. To say that this cottage has all the comforts of home is a complete understatement - I only wish my home was this nice! We had a delightful, albeit short stay in the redwood forest, and the cottage was a perfect spot for our day trips to the Redwood National Park and Humboldt Redwoods Park. The cottage and grounds are immaculately kept and everything is finished in incredible detail. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely return!

We just returned from a one week stay at this beautiful and unique cottage and I must say, it's the best place we have ever found on VRBO. We feel so lucky to have found it and will stay there anytime that we are visiting the North Coast. It was absolutely perfect in every detail, inside and out. While the pictures and description posted on VRBO are 100% reflective of the quality and beauty of the cottage and grounds, you must go for a stay to really appreciate all that is there: the pond, the redwood forest that is right in front of you, beautiful ferns and plantings, birds, cool fresh air etc. So many whimsical details as well (check out the alligator by the pond). The Cottage/Chateau itself is so comfortable and spacious, beautifully decorated and fully equipped with everything that you will need for a comfortable stay. I loved cooking in the kitchen, window open for some fresh air and the sound of the waterfall/pond and birds. The bed was super comfortable (I must find out from Jerry what type of bed it is - it's more comfortable than what we have at home!), and the shower is WONDERFUL!! Love love love it. We felt like we had a little piece of paradise for a week. Jerry is very personable, friendly, helpful; he truly wants you to have the best time ever. Also, the location is great, just a few minutes from downtown Eureka, and just a short drive to the ocean and redwood parks. Thank you Jerry, Kathryn and Andrew for creating such a magical and fabulous place for us to come to for relaxation and rejuvenation! PS: Best wishes on creating The Nest, can't wait to see it when it's ready for rental.

Joel's praise for our efforts was especially momentous due to the fact that he has an architectual firm in their city. My special thanks to you both and all of our blessings for your future family. My husband and I recently stayed at Chateau Krupberg as part of our honeymoon. We could not have been more impressed with Jerry and the Chateau. The Chateau is beautifully constructed and decorated with clear skill, artistry, and amazing taste. Jerry and his wife have thought of everything to make the stay a memorable experience- from the beautiful gates, to the koi pond, to the fully equipped kitchen, laundry, tv, blu-ray and wifi. The place was impeccably cleaned and organized. The setting is gorgeous- the Chateau really is nestled right into the forest. We had a great time hiking the Tall Trees trail, walking around Old Town Eureka (check out the Many Hands Gallery) and Trinidad (try some of Katy's smoked salmon). Jerry was warm, personable, and helpful. He gave us our privacy during our stay, but was available by cell phone with any questions. If you are thinking about visiting Humboldt county, you won't find a better place than the Chateau!

Owner response: If only you "folks" could see the physical change that my head goes through each time that my wonderful guests make the glowing comments about our accomplishments--Aaaaaaw! What you will never be able to see is the rush of warmth that fills every last void of my physical structure. I am only so glad that I could be a tiny part of the beginning of a fabulous relationship which will last a lifetime. Thank You Kevin & Lauren from the bottom of my heart. Jerry

I took my husband here for his 50th birthday. We had a great time! Was a little concerned at first as we pulled in to Eureka and we were only 3 miles in from the city. Once we headed tords the cabin we felt a little more at ease. The place was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was very clean, the owner showed us around and showed us how to use everything like the t.v. etc. He was very polite and once he left and I didn't understand the tv thing and called he had no problem coming over to show me again. This place was definately great and we will return again. Your backyard is the redwoods and it is all upkept very well. Even though the owner is next door you definately have your privacy there. Don't miss out on this place you really need to stay here to enjoy it!!!!!!! I am planing on refereing this place to all my friends who plan on going to the redwoods.

This review took a while to post, but VRBO just reminded us that we hadn't done it, and this of all places deserves positive recognition! I will try not to gush, but we have never had such a pleasant stay anywhere else! We stayed at the Cottage in June 2012 for our honeymoon. The cottage provided a magical first impression of Northern California. I know that others have said this before me, but the attention to detail and profound beauty of everything at the Chateau was breathtaking. Inside the cottage is elegant and luxurious. The rain shower, heated floors, skylights, and fabulous kitchen gave the cottage the feel of an upscale hotel, yet it maintained the coziness of a secluded cabin. The kitchen was fantastic, which was perfect because we love to cook together. Jerry even provided a bottle of champagne as a wedding gift! The grounds added to the fairy-tale feel of the cottage. The landscaping is beautiful, and the surrounding forest makes one keenly aware of the grandeur of nature. We loved both the feeling of isolation and the pleasant company of Jerry. He was incredibly kind and was always available to address concerns. In addition, we loved the evening conversations with Jerry about the Chateau, local wildlife, and things to do in the surrounding areas. This was our first visit to Northern California, so we wanted to do a little of everything. We enjoyed spending time at the waterfront restaurants in Eureka and mulling around the square in Arcata. In addition, the cottage is in the perfect location to access both the Redwood National Forest and Humbolt State Forest. We love hiking, and there are many excellent trails in both of those parks that will take you among the old-growth redwoods. The majesty of these trees is breathtaking and added to the beauty of our honeymoon. We also loved walking along the Northern California beaches. It was a bit cool in June along the shore, but it was beautiful. As the perfect end to our trip, as we were driving to the airport, we passed an enormous herd of elk. It was picturesque--the animals moseyed between the highway and the ocean, disappearing into the mist. I cannot describe the beauty of this area, nor how enchanting the cottage is. I would certainly recommend staying at the cottage, for a romantic getaway, fantastic hikes, rest and relaxation, or any combination thereof! We were delighted by our stay at the cottage!

Owner response: It is such an incredible feeling for this innkeeper to help to create the perfect "North Coast" visit and stay. Especially for those who are on such an important journey (honeymoon). My heartfelt thanks to Kari & Brian for experiencing & expressing what this incredible place offers up to everyone of its guests. We offer this wonderful "gate cottage" and in 2013 will be prepared to offer another special stay opportunity, the "raven's nest". Please do visit and Kari & Brian you are always welcome. As seasoned travelers we have stayed in numerous accommodations ,and non have surpassed our experience at Chateau Krupberg. The setting in a redwood grove is peaceful and serene, the interior is spotless and decorated with flair, and Jerry's attention to detail is meticulous. We are just sorry that we didn't allow ourselves more time in this delightful place.

We feel so lucky to have found a last-minute week open for us at the Chateau. It's like the planets aligned to make our 3rd stay be able to happen at Jerry's. We're more than willing to admit now that we come to Eureka for the Chateau first and the area second (we adore our "Rick and Chrissy" tree). Three trips here and we have yet to see any wear on this place. It goes to show how much Jerry cares to make our experience the best each and every time. I've become so familiar in the kitchen that it's almost confusing coming back to my own. You truly want to be in every room of the Chateau at once. It's become a tradition for me to smoke some salmon and take it up to Jerry just because we adore him and his wife for how they've treated us all these times. We can't wait to be immersed in comfort and beauty again.... PS: thanks for showing us your progress on the Raven's Nest (the bridge, wow). Good luck with that darn heron! - Rick & Chrissy

Jerry has done a wonderful job on this "cottage" (note- calling this a cottage is not doing it justice). The craftsmanship and attention to detail is phenomenal. The only downside is you will want to remodel your own home to be just as nice. We look forward to scheduling our next visit once the "nest" is available.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed Chateau Krupberg for a week. We wanted to stay somewhere with a kitchen so that we could prepare our own meals. The kitchen at the Chateau is fully stocked and has very nice appliances. The only thing that we needed to supply was the food. The landscaping on the property is terrific. The location is well situated between parks to the north and south if you are planning your vacation around hiking. Overall, we had a perfect stay. Jerry, the owner, was very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. I do not have a single complaint and cannot think of any way in which Jerry can improve his cottage. I do not see anyone ever giving this location less than a 5 star rating.

Entering Chateau Krupberg through the ornate security gate we knew we were in for an unusually aesthetic experience. Everywhere we looked there were artistic elements and evidence of skilled craftsmanship. We immediately could see that Jerry took great pride in all aspects of the design, decoration and landscaping. We couldn't help but appreciate and respect the value of what he had created. Jerry was both personable, interesting and available to answer any questions. The cottage is in a totally quiet, forest setting, with only croaking frogs and a little rain on the roof to lull you to sleep. Besides enjoying the seclusion and comfort of the cottage we also cooked all our meals there during our three night stay. The kitchen is "state of the art" and spotless, as is the rest of the cottage, from the remote controlled skylights to the exterior tree and step lights. We would recommend this hideaway to our friends without question. Yes, the cottage does really look like the pictures and even better.

Owner response: The 'Chateau' gives up the tranquility and frog chorus to all who stay. I enthusiastically welcome Michael & Anita to run right back (marathoners) anytime as we will keep the way clear and the lights on. Thanks, Jerry

Jerry's cottage is an amazing place to stay. Set in a wonderful forest setting it is carefully crafted of the finest materials and exudes warmth and comfort. All the appliances, linens and utensils are high end and work perfectly. We completely enjoyed our time at the Chateau. The fog, the big blue heron, and the naturalized gardens surrounded us with quiet and beauty. It is also a great base to visit beaches, redwoods, Frendale, Arcata market and old town Eureka. Jerry himself is a fabulous host who is always willing to assist, respects privacy, and has a fantastic sense of humour! This is part of a compound located on a secluded wooded hill on the ouskirts of Eureka. The owner, who is friendly and very accomodating, has remodeled an outbuilding near his house into a warm and spacious one-bedroom cottage perfect for two. The place is new, perfectly clean, with expensive wood, tile, and stone detailing, decorated tastefully with a vagually Japanese theme. If you are interested in cooking, as we are, then this is the place for you: the appliances are of high quality, and the kitchen is equiped with cookware and tools to an extent that rivals what we have at home. The care lavished on the design, construction, maintainance, and decorating are just way beyond what you find in a "vacation rental". It was obviously built to be a home. Not the least of the pleasures here, Jerry is carefully developing the landscaping in a very naturalistic woodland style. We hope we can come back to see it as it matures.

Owner response: Our original intent was for the "gate cottage" to serve as an exlusive guest house to accomodate visiting friends & family and now, we offer it for your pleasure and enjoyment. Soon there will be an addition, the "raven's nest". Thank You John & Jean and you are always welcome in this special place. Jerry

My husband and I stayed at Chateau Krupberg for three nights. It was just as shown in the photos, but maybe even better! There house is beautifully decorated, with amazing attention to detail. The grounds are wonderfully landscaped and since it is in the forest we were lucky enough to see two deer one morning. The area is very quiet and the bed comfortable, making for a perfect night's sleep (especially after hiking and exploring the beautiful redwoods and coastline!). There is a dedicated wifi router for guests at the Chateau, satellite television, and several books and magazines on-hand so you won't be bored! The kitchen is well-stocked. Jerry met us on arrival and gave us a tour to orient us to the house, and was an excellent host. We would definitely stay here again if traveling in the Eureka area.

Frequent visitors to the area, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a fellow VRBO for a long weekend and picked the Château for its calm beauty and proximity to Eureka. We were not disappointed! This "elegant cottage" is a testament to the extreme care and skill that went into creating it. The taste and workmanship that are in evidence everywhere speak highly for the owners' vision of a perfect wooded retreat, combining comfort and beauty at every turn. Choice Asian art and textiles blend harmoniously with the modern wood, glass and stone construction, while the radiant heat maintains a steady and soothing warmth. Everything one could need has been provided, and Jerry is on hand to answer any questions. He really provides luxury for a modest price. Highly recommended!

We were very impressed with the Cottage. The craftsmanship of the Cottage itself and natural beauty of the forested setting was amazing. I was debating about staying two nights or three - and we are very happy that we chose three! The listing description and photos - although accurate - did not fully capture the serenity and comfort that we felt during our stay. It was always a struggle to leave the peacefulness of the Cottage to go sight-see and travel the coast. The property was spotless and Jerry was more than accommodating as he made us feel right at home. We are very excited to return to the Cottage next year. Our favorite aspects of the Cottage were the wonderful views of the forested hillside and koi pond, as well as the fully-equipped kitchen. It was one of the highlights of our day to cook dinner! We would definitely recommend the Cottage to all our friends and family.

Thank You both so much for helping to close out our first partial year (16APR2011-31DEC2011)in such a special way. We look forward to your stay in 2012 when I promise an even more incredible 'Chateau' experience.Thank You K & C, Jerry

If we could give six stars to a vacation setting, this would be it. We have stayed in many VRBO's and have often found the photos and descriptions to be somewhat misleading. Jerry's cottage is everything he says it is and more. He is a very warm and responsive host. The cottage is private and surrounded by redwoods. The stonework, woodwork and metal work leading up to the cottage are beautiful and extremely well crafted. Inside the cottage, there is a very large room, with a granite counter-top separating the kitchen area. The appliances are top of the line and the furnishings are delightful. The bedroom is also spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The cottage is less than ten minutes from downtown Eureka, but we felt like we we were deep in the woods. We used the cottage as a base to visit and hike in Prairie Creek State Park (James Irvine trail and the Tall Trees trail), Patrick's Point State Park including Agate Beach and Big Lagoon and a number of shorter hikes. If you are looking for peace, quiet, outdoor beauty and a wonderful home to stay in, you have found it!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: It honors this Innkeeper to be able to serve such wonderful guests as Martha & Murray. Then to find out that they host a lovely cottage (VRBO.com/162663) in Rockridge (Oakland/Berkley) made the fact they had chosen to stay with us at the 'Chateau' an even more surprising and delightful experience. I can hardly wait for a stay at their exquisite "Rockridge cottage". Thank You, Jerry

We stayed for four nights and was blessed with wonderful winter weather. Jerry has spared no expense making this cottage as comfortable, warm and relaxing as possible. It is located in a magical part of Eureka that was a perfect mid point to Prairie Creek Forest, Redwood Forest, Jedediah National Park to the North and the Avenue of the Giants to the South. Even though we were gone for the majority of the days, it was so nice to drive back to rest our weary legs at the Chateau and the very fact that you are looking out into Jerrys' own Redwood Forest is a huge plus. Inside, all the amenities are high end and super clean, the bathroom is gorgeous and the bed as ultra comfy with a skylight above it so you can see the full moon while you are sleeping (also have the option of closing it for complete darkness). It felt like we were the first people to have ever stayed here. Jerry was an amazingly gracious host offering us any and all suggestions and help when needed and still providing us with as much privacy as you could ask for. It is a free standing structure, not attached to any other building and we felt like we were the only people on the planet. It's also the little things that Jerry has included to make the stay as amazing as possible. Far too many to mention but you certainly notice them once you get here. Chateau Krupberg has been a huge part of a very memorable holiday and we will DEFINITELY be coming back! Many, many thanks to Jerry and Kathryn for making this trip the best of our lives.

Owner response: Call me a "ROMANTIC", but this was not only a very memorable holiday for David & Natalie but this is a one of a kind experience for this Innkeeper as well. Another "secret": David proposed to Nat (she accepted) and wow are they an amazing couple. The ring is so special and personal and fits Natalie perfectly. You have made me and the 'Chateau' very happy to have been chosen to participate. My best wishes and Super Thanks, Jerry

Were it not for the earnest dedication of this proprietor, I would be tempted to keep this place a secret! But, it's hard not to share the joy of finding this little piece of paradise - This was our second visit to Jerry's 'Chalet' and certainly not our last. If you are seeking a tranquil escape surrounded by simple beauty, you will appreciate the purity of design and attention to detail that has been imbued in every inch of this property. Situated well away from it all, the architecture and expansive views give the impression of being in a tree house, allowing for total relaxation and immersion into the magnificence of the surrounding redwoods. The landscape is further enhanced by the exquisite landscaping, including a very large pond, stone pathways, dramatic lighting and sculpted redwood decking. Inside, it is immaculate - spotless, tastefully appointed, cozy and warmed with more luxuries than one could imagine - heated stone floors, a large vaulted shower, state-of-the-art appliances, a fully stocked kitchen, fine linens, books, movies, even chocolates... If you are looking for a retreat, a place in the redwoods, or a romantic getaway - you will not be disappointed!!!

Owner response: As Diane hinted , there is a "secret" that this place holds for all to share. It wraps tight, in its giant's veneer, a life pulse of wonder and thoughtfullness. You have merely to spend time here to enjoy the small creatures (Squirrels, Quail, Fox, Jays, and more) who know this special place. I have dedicated the "frog gate" to Diane & Michael and now await the March procession to the pond for the annual mating rituals,"let their songs resound"! D & M are special to us, and are a permanent part of this place now. We await their next stay with us at the 'Chateau'. Thank You, Jerry

I have been reflecting for two weeks on how to adequately write a review which would accurately communicate the exceptional aspects of this property along with the hospitality of the owners. The construction of the Chateau is impeccable ... and furnished with furniture and appliances which are top quality and world-class. If there is a common theme for the overall experience, it is "attention to detail". From the initial contacts with the host, Jerry, to every miter-joint and art artifact ... every detail is thoughtfully handled with superb attention! Jerry is an artist at heart, and a fine-craftsman with his hands. The entire property is an expression of creativity and artistic-tastefulness. Like a vintage wine, you continue to discover delightful nuances while at the Chateau. This was our first trip to northern California, and we scheduled our evenings at the Chateau in order to allow us to experience the Pacific coast & redwoods. However, the experience of being at the Chateau truly rivals the natural attractions which surround it. If having a retreat from the bustle of everyday life is attractive to you, this property will exceed whatever expectations you may have. I recommend this property unreservedly!

Owner response: Without the "Ricks & Marilyns", I would be bereft of that reason to create. Exceptional guests are a necessary ingredient to our success and I gladly give back the (5) five stars to Marilyn and Rick who are most welcome to schedule a next sojourn on the "North Coast" with us at the 'Chateau Krupberg'. Thank You, Jerry

We have stayed at many VRBOs over the years. The Krupberg Chateau is the best one yet. The features Jerry provides are outstanding. The care and craftsmanship that went into building the cottage are clearly evident. We were there for four nights. After all our daily adventures, returning to the cottage felt like coming home. From our morning coffee to our late night glass of wine this was the perfect place for us. The cottage will be the yardstick by which we will measure all of our future VRBOs. Jerry is a most gracious host and our one regret is not taking more time to visit with him.

Owner response: I am so pleased that Kathy & Terry found the 'Chateau' for the special comfort this forest place has to offer. Our day-to-day lives can be so busy and make places like this a much needed relief. You hard working Illinoisians are certainly welcome back for more 'Chateau' anytime. I thank you, Jerry

We couldn't have imagined a better place to spend our honeymoon! This cottage is perfect! It is so beautiful here, and the owners were so nice! We loved the landscaping and the peaceful surroundings, as well as the clean and comfortable cottage! We can't say enough of how great this place is! We feel like we got a lot more than we paid for. We would love to come back and we will recommend anyone to this little cottage!

We stayed for two nights as part of a week long tour of the northern coast and wine country. Although the remainder of our stay led us to many different lodgings, many much pricier, this was by far our favorite place. This cottage was truly a labor of love and the details show that. It was immaculately clean. We enjoyed a complimentary bottle of wine which we enjoyed on the couch watching a movie from the nice collection. In the morning, we enjoyed the complimentary coffee while watching the sunrise through the trees. Jerry had plenty of sightseeing brochures on hand so we didn't have to run around trying to collect them. We hope we are lucky enough to visit again! Our security deposit was promptly refunded and even beat us home!

Owner response: I will always provide my guests with the finest accomodations on the "North Coast" and welcome Brent & Russelle back for an even longer next stay. Thanks, Jerry
