Rochester house description
A beautiful home located in Rochester, VT in the heart of the Green Mountains, nestled into a mountainside among trees and an extensive perennial garden. In the summer, kick back on the deck (with awning) and enjoy the view. During the winter, a stone fireplace and sauna warm your adventure. 1800 square feet include a great room with cathedral ceilings, dining area and kitchen on the main floor, and three bedrooms on the lower floor. The master bedroom has its own full bath.
Located in the private Great Hawk community, a tennis court, swimming pond and miles of trails are within walking distance. The town of Rochester is delightful, with a central green containing a gazebo where weekly performances take place. This small town is full of heart, along with a fantastic bakery, restaurants, art gallery and bike shop for rentals.
An abundance of outdoor activities can be found throughout the region. Rochester is centrally located and 30-60 minutes from many major towns, including Middlebury, Rutland, Waitsfied and Montpelier. Burlington is about an hour and 20 minutes north. But the best part is all the small, authentic towns around us, such as Pittsfield, Hancock, Bristol and Brandon.
At night, the quiet rustle of the trees and orchestra of stars create a peaceful feeling of being close to nature, while comfortably enjoying a lovely home.
We are located between Killington and Sugarbush -- perfectly situated for those who enjoy both ski areas.
Our driveway is steep -- 4WD is recommended in the winter.

Terrific Home in a Beautiful Setting
Terrific Home in a Beautiful Setting
We (3 adults) stayed at the house for three nights in February. The main purpose of the trip was skiing and I chose Rochester because it's about half way between Killington and Sugarbush - about 30-40 minutes to either resort which was fine by us (by the way, we ended up skiing at Mad River Glen and I definitely recommend it over Killington - friendlier, cheaper, more manageable). The house was great - warm and inviting. It was more than enough for our small group, but it can easily handle a larger group too. There is a large living area with a wonderful fireplace which we used on all nights. I loved the fact that the fireplace is the focal point of the room, while the TV is positioned off to the side. We cooked all breakfasts and dinners and the kitchen had everything we needed. I also enjoyed the dining area - the table was comfortable and it got plenty of light. One feature of the house that we didn't use much is the deck. The view is absolutely breathtaking, and I could easily imagine relaxing on the deck in the warmth of a summer evening surrounded by green mountains. It's a little colder in the white of winter, so no relaxing on the deck. However, sauna was a very welcome feature. I like relaxing my muscles in the heat of a sauna, and this house has a wonderful one. Bedrooms are cozy, and there are plenty of bathrooms, so nobody had to wait their turn. The entire house was clean and well taken care of. I've stayed in a few rental properties over the years, and I think one of the best features of this one is that we felt like we're staying with friends and family. It's just so welcoming and with great feel and character. The area is beautiful, and Rochester is a pretty town. I would like to come back here in the summer for a few days of hiking. It's a great place to unwind. In the winter, AWD is definitely recommended (not just for this house, but for Vermont in general). I learned that my winter driving is not as great as I thought, but I did get some practice as we were there during a winter storm. One last (but definitely not least) thing, Jill was an absolute pleasure to communicate with. She provided a lot of very helpful advice and was quick to respond to any questions. Given another opportunity, I would stay at this house in a heartbeat.

Beautiful home in the Green Mountains
Beautiful home in the Green Mountains
My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. This home is beautifully decorated with a mountain view, and lots of things to see and do. I cannot think of anything else you need to enhance the experience except more time. Jill, you were very helpful with all the “things to do”. I hope we can come back next year to continue where we left off.

About: Jill is a learning disabilities specialist and author. Charles is a lawyer. We love Vermont and do not get to visit nearly enough. We have hiked throughout the Green Mountains, a true delight. The small towns and big hearts of the Vermonters make each visit special. With our busy lives, we also enjoy simply sitting around the cozy great room by the fire and reading. Many of our friends have loved visiting -- they are struck by the quiet beauty and charm of the area.
Jill fell in love with the area over 20 years ago after a student's family urged her to visit their home in Pittsfield, 15 minutes south of Rochester. The family knew she loved the mountains and felt she would really enjoy their home. They were right. There are so many simple joys to be found in Central Vermont -- including magnificent swimming holes, hiking trails, charming shops and surprisingly great cuisine. Of course, the fall foliage is a highlight.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house feels as if we are in the tree tops. We are at eye level with many tall trees that line an incredible view to nearby Brandon Gap. It is astoundingly quiet. There is no light pollution, creating a spectacular abundance of visible stars. The stone fireplace is central and a treat. Whether winter or summer, the landscape is breathtaking. It is wonderful to walk the dirt roads around the private neighborhood. The town is a short 10 minute drive and, though it is small, it contains every convenience, including a fantastic bakery. A tennis court and swimming pond are a short walk away, too.
