This is a house with lots of charm and atmosphere. A beautiful private yard and bluestone patio (with grill) come with this one of a kind Berkshire bungalow. The house is surrounded by a stone wall, majestic pines and cedars, yet open and light. Set a short walk from the center of the quaint historic village of Ashley Falls, the house has the charm of a 1940's bungalow but includes many modern amenities.

Though you may not want to venture on to the patio for morning coffee during the fall and winter months, the large private yard is beautiful entry way to the outdoors. Whether it's wandering down the dirt farm road along the stone wall on the side yard, walking out the door and down country roads to the Housatonic River and Bartholomew's Cobble, or heading out by car to Appalacian Trail connectors, you are sure to find either peace and quiet or adventure at your door step. When there is snow, one can snow shoe or cross country ski right out the back door or take a short ride to many great back country trails.

The master bedroom with a queen bed is downstairs with a full bath. The upstairs has a cute, cozy attic type bedroom with twin beds and a nice tiled half bath. Air conditioners are in both rooms. Downstairs there is also a separate TV room with an air conditioner. Ceiling fans are in the dining room, TV room, and the master bedroom has two. If needed, there is also an air conditioner for the living room though we rarely use it. Obviously, this winter you will not the cool air, but the house is a cozy and warm place to be.

The kitchen, dining, and living room area is open and inviting with a welcoming atmosphere. A great spot for candle light dinners.

There's also great biking right out the door and kayaking and canoeing a mile away on the Housatonic River. Bartholomew's Cobble is also a mile from the house. It's a great place for leisure hikes, bird watching, and beautiful scenery. Both Butternut Basin and Catamount ski areas are within a 15 to 20 minute ride. Twin Lakes, CT is a five minute drive. The Appalachian Trail and several other great hiking spots are near by. Along with the great outdoor activities, there are first class restaurants 15 minutes away in several directions, and Great Barrington, MA with fun shops, first class restaurants, and a movie theater is also a 15 minute drive. Tanglewood and Stockbridge with many cultural events from the Boston symphony to summer theater are a short half hour drive. Jacob's Pillow is about 45 minutes from here. Sheffield, only five minutes away, is known as Antique Alley, and Infinity Music Hall in Norfolk, CT, a short 15 minutes drive, has interesting well known musicians that play in a funky small venue. There is also an excellent Bistro there. Best of all, wherever you go, you are surrounded by the Litchfield Hills and The Berkshires.

House comes with a fully equipped kitchen, linens, WIFI, cable TV, and CD player along with an interesting collection of CDs.

Rent is $1200 per week. or $200 a night with a three night minimum. Please contact us for more information.

I stayed here twice with my mother and daughter and loved it both times. It immediately felt like home. The property is beautiful inside and out. I especially liked the hole in the hedge for going between the yard and the driveway - it is a perfect playing area for a toddler. The tv room is cozy. The living room and dining room are beautifully furnished. The whole place is really wonderful. And it is only a 20 minute drive to the Option Institute!

We stayed at this wonderful, attractive, and plant-filled house for an entire month and hated to leave. Comfortable, filled all our needs, and the owners are the best. All of the ameneties were there; also, kitchen was well stocked. Bedroom and bath spacious and comfortable. TV room kept the tv out of the bedroom (loved that). The little bedroom and half bath upstairs were great for overnight guests. Outside, the patio was perfect. Even though it isn't screened in, the mosquito killer (a mechanical device, not bug spray) kept the critters at bay. All that the area has to offer (restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, entertainment, the arts, hiking) is close at hand. A flock of turkeys lives nearby. We really loved this place and hope to return next year.

My sister's son was married in Sheffield, Massachusetts over Labor Day. We attended and found this great home to stay in for the three nights we were in the Berkshires. The house was so perfect that we felt it, like all our other adventures at this spectacular wedding made for one very memorable Labor Day weekend. The home is beautifully decorated and so very inviting that you thoroughly enjoy coming home to it after your day's activities. We hiked at Bartholomew Cobble every day, went to the Norman Rockwell museum, dined up in Great Barrington, attended multiple fabulous wedding events and every night were delighted to be heading back to this charming house, eager to wake up the next morning to a beautiful outdoor view and a comfortable spot for planning the new day's fun.

Owner response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed and appreciated our home. With all the beauty and activities that the Berkshires have to offer, it does, indeed, make it even more special that one can come home to a little piece of heaven. It is great fun to share it all with our guests.

We spent a weekend there with two couples enjoying local hiking and skiing. The house was immaculately clean, and owners were very helpful. Great backyard with BBQ, and we especially enjoyed listening their great CD collection. A wonderful city escape.

About the owner: We have recently retired and are finding new adventures. We love to bike, hike, and kayak as well as live the good life in the Berkshires. Travel is definitely on our agenda as we settle into retirement.

          Why the Owner Chose Sheffield:
We moved to the Berkshires because it has it all: peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings, adventure, and first class culture.

The Unique Benefits at this Bungalow:
We think that the best restaurant in the Berkshires is on our patio as the sun is setting and we are enjoying a late dinner with candles burning in the gardens and on the table. This after a day of biking to Egremont or around Twin Lakes is the end to a perfect day.
