10 of us stayed at Oulala for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Michelle was a lovely host, leaving us breakfast fixings and home made muffins/cakes to set us up beautifully for the first day or so. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and well appointed. The backyard was our favorite space to hang out and enjoy wine, food & company. The only downside was that the common areas of the house were a bit dingy. Nothing we couldn't work around with a quick sweep of the broom but it's clearly a rental and not kept up quite as well as you might your own home. We hardly minded with all the lovely outdoor space and with all that New Orleans has to offer outside the rental. All in all - I'd definitely stay here again and would invite friends to do the same.

Owner response: As delightful as this group of fun-loving party girls were upon arrival I was a little surprised to discover upon a service call to the house to see that they had chosen to completely rearrange all of my valuable antique furniture and brand new sleek designer contemporary L-shaped sectional sofa into a completely different layout in the main living area. An antique Italian Fortunia fabric covered day bed that was positioned to avoid drink and food spillage was totally turned around to face the primary television lounging area and an a heavy antique marble pastry table was removed completely and placed into another room. The new designer L-shapped sectional sofa had been divided up into three sections and moved around the room into individual seating. I never had guests do this before. Although we have a cleaning crew of three women who work on their hands and knees cleaning floors and waxing the antique hard wood floors before guests arrive, undoubtedly, between so many back to back check-ins, the surfaces beneath these sofas must have gathered dust that comes up from the floor boards of these 19th century raised houses. So, when the girls decided to redesign the layout and moved the furniture all around the room, dust that was not easy to access on weekly cleanings became revealed of which is what they must be referring to. Since cleanliness is of critical importance to me, doing a white glove test throughout the house over and over again before each guest's arrival, I was disappointed to get this very first review mentioning dust and needing a broom after 12 consecutive 5 star reviews by other guest raving about the house and many commenting on how clean and fresh the house is. I am so happy that they enjoyed themselves and want to come back and will now make certain that we also move all the furniture around each time to make certain that dust does not gather under large sofas that are heavy but obviously must be moved each time to make certain that everything is sparkling for our guests which of are of upmost importance to me. Feedback is always welcomed as we strive to make the house "party perfect" for our guests arrivals with fresh flowers and goodies throughout the house. Although some of the furniture may have seemed old to these girls, many of my pieces are very valuable 19th century antiques which they may not have been as familiar with as these are common appointments found in gracious residence such as mine in southern New Orleans homes.

We rented this house to travel to New Orleans with friends to celebrate Mardi Gras and my birthday. This is such a spectacular house! Plenty of room for four couples - plus other local friends whim we invited over for a couple of meals. The kitchen is well stocked - there were even treats left for us! The rooms are spotless and well decorated with comfortable furnishings. While we wished it were warm enough to take advantage of the beautiful pool, we did share drinks and gossip in the wonderful garden. We could walk to so many wonderful places. I travel to New Orleans often, but had never stayed in the Carrolton neighborhood. I think I have found a new favorite place! This house is a true gem.

Our host was a joy! Fresh baked goodies, lovely touches throughout the home and even a birthday present with a sweet sweet note. Highly recommend spending an evening in the lovely formal dining room and having Riley the house manager cook a gourmet meal for your guests and entertaining you with his piano playing. Uptown neighborhood is charming and a nice break from the nearby French Quarter. Dante's restaurant (within walking distance) is fantastic as well!

Owner response: We loved your visit and were so pleased that you chose my beautiful Oulala House /Pool and Gardens for your birthday celebration. So many of my guests now are choosing my historic Oulala House as a destination experience. Riley and staff just loved preparing a gourmet meal for you and of course he loved performing classical music for your birthday celebration. We hope you come to visit us again one day soon. Thank you for your expression of your enjoyment of my home of which I put so much of my heart into for every guest's arrival.

My family decided to spend Thanksgiving in New Orleans this year, and we could not have found a more perfect home and location! My husband and three kids (20, 18 at Tulane, and 14) were thrilled with the house, the beautiful furnishings, the eclectic and comfortable feel and attention to detail. We met the helpful house manager on the day we arrived, but never needed to call him for any further assistance because the house was stocked with everything we needed, or forgot to bring ourselves. The back yard was an oasis in the city, and yet we were only steps away from the street car. We walked to Oak Street for breakfast, and walked to Audubon Park and the Tulane campus. Lots of walking. All beautiful. We are hoping to return because we unanimously agreed there could not be a better place for us. We have never unanimously agreed on anything before...:) Thank you for wonderful family getaway!

Owner response: What a delightful family to have spending the Thanksgiving holidays at my beautiful and very beloved Oulala House/Pool and Gardens. Your family exuded so much love of one another while you were here particularly the celebration of the new born baby in your midst. I am so glad you enjoyed our oasis of our gardens which we love and pour so much care into down to the strings of white lights that we love to leave on to illuminate the night to the sound of the flowing French wall fountain. We hope you come back soon to spend another family gathering at our home as you were a joy to have in every way. Thank you for your kind and glowing review.

I Arrived on the evening of June 29 ,after an eight hour drive from Texas ,I walked into the Oulala house and felt as if I was not dressed appropriately for the time period I had just found myself. The ambiance of 19th century New Orleans was very receiving. Astounded by the nuance of the Oulala house and the atmospheric ambrosia it gave to the start of a great vacation. The tranquility of the art and furnishings provided an abundant harmony throughout the home during our stay. It was pleasant to have a pool to cool down in after our daily adventures in the grand city of New Orleans. The numerous local restaurants within walking distance were a positive during our visit. A short commute of 4 to 6 miles to the quarter, and museums was ideal if you chose to drive .If you didn’t care to drive the St. Charles Line Streetcar stop was just a half block away. I would definitely recommend this vacation rental to anyone looking for an authentic New Orleans vacation. The home owner made certain we felt at home by providing snacks for our stay. I will absolutely stay at this location again. I miss you Oulala house! I miss you NOLA! I think Louis Armstrong said it better “Do you know what it means to Miss New Orleans?” Best Regards, HG

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the house to find it fully equipped for travelers. We did not expect a fully stocked kitchen as well as food for our first breakfast. The little cakes were delicious. The AC was not working but the repairmen came late the first night to fix it. The home is as beautiful as the photos and the pool was a great addition. The washer and dryer were also a plus, with 4 adults and 2 teenagers, as well as a toddler we needed to wash clothes. The location was perfect we had plenty of parking in front of the house just be careful and park in the correct direction. The house is perfect for a large family with the 4 private bedrooms. We hope to stay here again on our next trip to New Orleans. Thank you Michelle

We will never forget our wonderful family reunion in your home to celebrate my fathers 70th birthday in New Orleans. Most of the family stayed in the main house but we also used the upstairs 2 bedroom apartment in the back of the home for several days. We loved spending time in this historic, charming house with all of it's beautiful decor and artwork. Staying in a home like this, with so much personality, really makes you experience the true spirit and culture of New Orleans. Not to mention, when you return you fell like you're coming home as opposed to a hotel. Michelle, the owner, was so personable, kind-hearted and pleasant to do business with. She went all out in preparing the home for us. We loved the fully stocked kitchen and all the wonderful goodies left for around for us really made us feel special. There were fresh cut flowers, fancy chocolates, fresh fruit including a watermelon, snacks, muffins, milk, eggs, bacon, soda and bottle of wine. The main house is so spacious that our family of 9 +1 toddler had plenty of room. We appreciated the coded door lock as different groups could come and go as they please without disturbing others. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with plenty of nice towels and travel size bathroom amenities (toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, deodorant) so that if you forgot something you were covered, how thoughtful! The upstairs apartment was very bright and cheerful, spacious, comfortably cool and also nicely stocked with the essentials and goodies. One of the highlights was how much everyone loved spending time in the pool out back especially my little nephew. The pool was always clean, well-maintained and nicely lighted up at night. We enjoyed several wonderful conversations with family at the pool side table surrounding by lighted candles. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed the neighborhood of this house- lots of cool restaurants within walking distance especially Cooter Brown's Tavern & Oyster Bar. May we also recommend spending a night at Rock&Bowl to hear local New Orleans music while bowling a game or two. We highly recommend this property for your New Orleans visit as I know we hope to return for another visit again. Thanks Michelle for your great hospitality!

We have experienced numerous vacation rentals over the years and have never been greeted so graciously by the owner and provided with so many nice touches as at this really wonderful historic New Orleans home in a super section of the city. We had been traveling all day and when we arrived we were of course tired and hungry, but the owner had provided us with so many extras laid out in a beautiful presentation in the charming French style kitchen that we were just so happy. Fresh floweres filled vases, chocolate kisses were in candy dishes, a bottle of wine and lots of goodies were out on the table. She even had egg, bacon, and milk and orange juice for us to make breakfast the next morning. Our kids were so excited about the pooll that they dived in it right away ( very private and like a little oasis in the city) and my sisters and I were fascinated with the owner's beautiful collection of art and anitques that apponted all the rooms. Great big bedrooms with nice sheets and lots of fresh towels. The house was just stunning. And then when we walked out the door we were literally blocks a way from some really great restaurants, the streetcar and lots of shops that had interesting and nice things. We walked one night to Oak Street and hear some of the best jazz music at a place called the Maple Leaf. And when our husbands joined us we were not far from a great place called Rock and Bowl where everyone dances to Cajun music and bowls ( even the children). What fun. we recommend this house highly. Oh, and the owner was so charming and sweet. She offered to do anyting we needed to help us with our planning. What a great vacation we had because of this gracious host and beautiful home.

To the owner, my whole dad's side of the family, who stayed at your house for my senior piano recital at Loyola University. We loved your home and enjoyed being together. Our time really felt like a New Orleans Christmas. The kitchen was nice and open for us to congregate and we had superb dinners in your dinning room. We enjoyed the mint julep glasses and the antique cart with the tea set. Thank you so much for putting out fresh flowers for my family and all our breakfast food. Loved your fountain by the pool and we really enjoyed your pool!! Everywhere my family and i looked was so peaceful. Enjoyed this house and time with my family. Hope to be back!!!

The description of this property on VRBO was over-embellished, self-serving and borderline fraudulent. During our stay the pool was deplorable and unusuable, many appliances did not operate properly, the property inside and outside was in disrepair and the so-called "gardens" unkept and strewn with broken items, pool equipment, and leaf waste. It was an embarrassment to entertain guests in town for our sons wedding (which was the entire reason we rented the "Oulala" house). Guests designated for the parlor suite downstairs - which was nothing more than the original living room with bedroom furniture in it - found the full size mattress old, lumpy and uncomfortable. The bathroom was down the hall - not within "the suite" as the description led me to believe. When we complained about cockroaches and property issues, we were told, in part, in a lengthy e-mail response, that it was our responsbility to bring these issues to the owners attention and that this was New Orleans charm and then chastised for our complaints. Ugh. (to be fair, however, the owner did bring in a pool cleaning crew of two that unfortunately were unable to resolve the garbage in the pool issues before our departure). We have rented many vacation homes and this was, by far, the worst experience we have encountered in our travels. The owner did not show up at our check-out time or send a representative despite our request to do so in order to protect our security deposit. Upon our return home we contacted the owner/caretaker for a refund of our security deposit and partial refund of our rent due to the lack of use of the pool but no reply as of today which is the end of the 5 day waiting period. We have contacted VRBO to resolve the situation and if not resolved to our satisfaction, intend to file a complaint and dispute of the charges through our credit card company. This review may be edited according to guidelines as dispute resolution attempts continue.

Owner response: Dear Travelers, I am horrified by this slanderous and untrue attack on my beautiful home that I am so passionate about and so many other guests have loved their vacation experience here. It is sad that this one bad apple can effect so many others in their excitement and joy about coming to New Orleans. I pray that those of you who read this woman's horrible review of my extraordinary New Orleans home, realize that something is very wrong with her interpretation of what happened while she was here. Without getting into a point by point battle with this woman on the internet, let me just say that I have requested a VRBO resolution inquiry to have this false review removed from my site. I have also paid this woman back her deposit despite the intentional damages she did to my property during her stay.Although I have never requested my guests to post reviews, I have reach out to past guest to post their experiences so that the true picture of my home which reflects its beauty. I intend to video my home so that guests can see for themselves the excellent condition of this jewel of a setting. In the meantime, I am offering the first night free to guests who book since this slanderous review until my resolution dispute is resolved and this review is rightfully removed. Please trust me that you will fall in love with my home and want to spend most of your trip lounging in the gardens and pool as so many other of my guests have done including this woman who wrote the review and her family despite her insults in her review. Please let me know if I can do anything else to calm your concerns and to assure you that my New Orleans home is truly a wonderful place to be for your vacation experience. Sincerely, Owner/ Michelle LeBlanc

This was the BEST guesthouse we have ever rented for our anual family reunions in New Orleans. It was big, elegant, and it was roomy enough for everyone. Plus, we loved walking to all the restaurants and shops in this super cool neighborhood. We felt like royalty! We enjoyed the complimentary fine chocolates, gourmet snacks, bottles of wine, baskets of fresh fruit, and fresh flowers everyone! And the stocked 'frig. The children enjoyed playing Marco Polo in the beautiful pool. The college kids and their friends enjoyed their privacy in the gazebo. They all went dancing at the nearby uptown clubs in the neighborhood after the big family barbecue. We hopped a streetcar and went to the French Quarter to see the sights, then we hired one of those cute little surreys to take us to hear jazz on Frenchman Street. Can't wait to come back! We are already booking dates for our niece's wedding this fall. We were treated like family.

This exquisite home and pool vacation rental in New Orleans provided my family with a perfect place that we will always remember for its charm for our family gathering. From the moment we arrived we knew this was a fabulous place that was going to give us the true feeling of living in gracious elegance in New Orleans right next to the streetcar and next to great local restaurants in walking distance. My sister went to Tulane University and we could literally walk down to her campus along St. Charles Avenue right across from Audubon Park. The house was amazing with art and antiques throughout and had beautiful comfortable bedrooms The hard wood floors were gleaming and their were fresh flowers on tables. My favorite bedroom was called the Veranda Suite which had a private library and an outdoor balcony. My parents stayed in the first floor bedroom which they raved about. It is called the parlor suite which had stunning antique French furniture and was easy for them to stay in since the steep stairs to the second floor would have been a little stretch for them to climb ( however, the house is equipped with a chair lift to the second floor which we could have used but did not). The downstairs bathroom was beautiful and there were two bathrooms upstairs with one being private for the large master bedroom that overlooked the pool. We loved the formal dining room and it even had a piano. The large kitchen had great cooking stuff that we were able to do what my family loves to do, cook!. But, the best experience of all was the large patio and pool area where we spent most of our time doing outdoor grilling and having dinners on the tables by the pool. There was a charming little covered gazebo , string lights, and a beautiful flowing wall fountain to make our evenings delightful there. Although we went to several of the restaurants, because we were a large group, we spent most of our time cooking and gathering by the pool which was very private with a tall wall surrounding the gardens. The owner was very charming and provided us with a whole bunch of munchies when we arrived including everything to make breakfast with and a bottle of wine to boot at no charge. Lots of visitor information was provided for us too. I am planning my next trip to New Orleans with my girl friends next year and I will definitely reserve this wonderful house again as it was a super experience

We loved our stay at the absolutely beautiful Oulala House. The owner's profession as a garden ornament consultant could be seen everywhere from the front door 19thc urns to the antique olive jars in the pool and garden area. We were delighted at how many goodies the owner had put out to welcome us upon our arrival. Wine, milk, bacon, eggs, coffee, orange juice, cookies, chips, nuts and her signature chocolate kisses throughout the house in bowls. Fresh flowers on tables and in hallways made us feel like we were at arriving at a special party just for us. The house is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in Old New Orleans, but has all the modern conveniences that we would want. The wonderful patio gazebo and pool was our favorite gathering spots where string lights and candles set a great mood for the night. We want to come back next year, as this was a memorable experience. You will love your vacation here!
