I hesitate to rave too much about how wonderful the "river house" is since we want to stay there again! The photos and descriptions are extremely accurate and the owners couldn't be more helpful! The house is just what you need if you are after comfort and accessibility to both the Redwoods and beaches in the area. Quiet, somewhat secluded, and fully furnished (including coffee and other dry goods). Beds are great, heaters worked perfectly and we used the washer and dryer allowing us to pack less clothing! Drinking water from the Smith River, and the air is as pure as you will find! For our group coming from the city, the sound of the river flowing by, along with the wonderful deck and firepit made us forget the trappings of city living. You won't regret booking this retreat and we plan on returning in the summer. Great! A +++++++++++++Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I rented this house from February 18 - February 25, 2013. The river-front view will take your breath away when you first open the door. The house seems to be a vacation home for the owners, as well, so it is well-stocked with anything and everything you can think of for a holiday. I've travelled all over the world, staying in vacation rentals and have never stayed in a place as well-stocked as this one. The house and decor are wonderfully comfy. It reminded me of staying with my grandmother, or a beloved aunt. There is nothing in the world like waking up to the sounds of the river rolling past your back door. I would love to return to this house in the summer or fall when it's warmer. It was far too big for a solo traveller. It can easily sleep 6. There are two bedrooms, and 3 couches, plus air mattresses for kids. Lots of outdoor space for lounging. A charcoal grill for outdoor cooking and a full (I mean FULL) kitchen for indoor cooking. It comes with a dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer. Everything you could possibly imagine. I cannot think of a week where I have been more relaxed and comfortable. I hiked the Redwoods and beach-combed, all in the same day. If you're lucky enough to find this place available, book it. You won't be disappointed. Thanks to the owners for accommodating me on such short notice.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Jaylynn, Thank you for the raving review and glad you had such a wonderful time. The Smith River truly is a special place. Late summer early fall is usually great, good weather and the river has warmed up nicely for swimming and rafting.

We stayed here for a week, and this house is basically as described. The location on the river is just stunning. It was so nice to start and end the days with the views. We very much enjoyed our time outside; however, the house has a bit of a steep grade down to the river, so be careful if you have any physical issues where this may be of concern. The house is well-appointed for sightseeing at the Redwoods...and don't miss the lighthouse, which can only be visited during low-tide! There are also many blackberry bushes across the street, which made for some wonderful desserts :) Don't miss the Rumiano Cheese Factory in town either! The lower star rating is based simply on the house being a bit dated. A few upgrades could be made to make the inside a bit more homey, rather than just a rental property. There were also, unfortunately, some neighborhood dogs who barked incessantly throughout the night, which made for some sleepless nights.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

We really enjoyed our stay at the River House. This was our first trip down to the Redwoods and we had a great time. The home was very warm cozy with wonderful views of the river. We loved eating breakfast out on the deck over looking the river. Our kids loved the ping pong table too. We stayed for three nights and had a great time with our three children. The house is very clean and comfortable with a fully stocked kitchen and fresh herbs in the planters out front! The Smith River is absolutely gorgeous. It was so nice to sit on the deck and enjoy the river and have a camp fire outside at night. The Redwood groves near by make it a spectacular place to be. Thanks for letting us stay there, it was a pleasure!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you Deena for taking the time to submit a review. We are pleased that you and your family had a good time and had the opportuniy to experience the beautiful Wild and Scenic Smith River and the Giant Redwoods. It is truly a special place.

My family and I stayed here for four WONDERFUL days in the summer of 2011 so we could be away from the world and close to the Redwood forest of Jedediah Smith State Park. The cabin was incredible, with lots of room for everyone and a wonderful kitchen and family room where we spent some quiet wonderful evenings enjoying our family once again. The river view is OUTSTANDING, and we spent every night gathered around the fire pit wrapped in blankets and enjoying the solitude. During the day, the Titans and the rest of the redwood forest was just a 10-minute drive away. Up the coast in any direction is some amazing scenery, but we couldn't tear ourselves away from the cabin. It was immaculately clean, wonderfully cozy and very inviting. You'd do well to spend as much time here as you can -- as long as you enjoy peace and quiet! We can not wait to go back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We loved the house and the backyard.View is beautiful, you can see river from almost all the rooms in the house. We couldn't really swim in the river because the weather was not cooperating, it was cool and cloudy most of the week, but we waded and crossed to the other side one day, water was very pleasant, not too cold.Backyard is very peaceful and relaxing,we had cofee at the deck overlooking redwood trees, berry bushes and beautiful river every morning. We used the firepit most nights, owners provided plenty of wood and fire starter. House is very comfortable, beds are great, kitchen is well equipped with lots of extras, like spices, condiments, etc.Location is great, close to ocean and great hiking. Don't miss Howland Hill Rd and Whaleshead beach and its forest trail.Too bad we couldn't stay longer. Definitely worth almost 8 hour drive, gorgeous area to visit.Did you find this review helpful? This residence was very easy to book, it is the first time I had booked anything like this and it was very smooth and easy to do. The house was very affordable and just like a home away from home. The house was very central to everything and it was a short drive to so many different places with lots to do for all members of the family.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
