A Gem to Lookout offers you the BEST VALUE for a Perfect Beach Vacation: a single-family home on a large lot where our PRIVATE PATH TO THE BEACH takes you directly to the ocean. You get ocean-front views and convenience at second-row cost. When you step into the foyer, you will see a lovely painting of the beach nearby. To the left is a bedroom with twin beds and a new flat-screen LED, cable TV and a full bathroom with a gorgeous Granite counter-top. To the right of the foyer, you will find an Ocean-facing bedroom with a Queen bed and a new flatscreen LED, cable TV, plus sliding-glass doors leading to the wide deck that wraps around the house.
--Beyond the foyer (with a fully equipped laundry area behind closed doors), you step into the living area with a Skylight and Cathedral ceiling and the overlooking Loft. A bank of picture windows allows you to admire the beach and ocean whether chatting with family and friends while sitting on new sofas; enjoying a meal in the dining-room area; or cooking in the kitchen.
--This inviting atmosphere will relax you and make 'hanging out' lots of fun. You can watch cable TV on the new 40' Flat Screen LED TV or play a DVD on the Blue Ray DVD player with a cable box for additional listings and viewing options. The corner niche facing the ocean is perfect for intimate breakfasts or playing cards. There is also an electric fireplace for cozy nights in the off-season. Sliding-glass doors lead to the deck nearby.
-- The dining-room also has a sliding-glass door to the deck's covered area. Both the dining-room and kitchen have tile floors, making clean-up a breeze. A new white table and multi-colored chairs make this a fun place for serving dinner or scooping ice cream into bowls.
--The bright kitchen with Recessed lighting, a Cloud, and new Kashmir Granite counters and Ample Sink allows you to enjoy meal preparation. You'll have plenty of space for groceries in a new, top-of-the line KitchenAid refrigerator. Your cabinets are fully stocked with china, glassware, pots and pans (from small to large), and plenty of utensils. You will find everything you need to entertain family and friends, including a new Blender for preparing milk shakes, crushed-ice drinks, or Margaritas. You'll also enjoy air-popping popcorn, a low-calory treat when watching movies, with the new popcorn maker.
--Beyond the dining-room, a door leads you to the Master Bedroom suite with its King size bed and ocean view. It has a walk-in closet, sitting area, and private door to the deck. Nestled in a quiet corner, you will enjoy both privacy and getting away to read a book or watch a movie on the new Flat screen LED TV and DVD player. The master bathroom with its sea-shell motif has a lovely Granite counter and shower.
--The wrap around deck facing the ocean is perfect for sunbathing or chatting, whether lying down on cushioned deck chairs or sitting in one of the 3 Adirondack chairs or cushioned Whicker furniture. You will love grilling on the new gas grill with a full set of grilling utensils.
--After a day on the beach, you'll love going up to the loft overlooking the living area. It's both cozy and spacious with a new Entertainment Center that includes a new 50' Flat Screen Plasma TV, BlueRay DVD player, cable box for additional viewing choices, Wii player, digital telephone with unlimited nation-wide calling, and a fax machine.
--A bowl of popcorn, drinks, and you're ready to hang out on the sofa and jungle-theme swivel chair. Prop up your feet on the coffee table or take out a game board or puzzle. With the curtains drawn at night, you enjoy total privacy. Little ones will love snuggling next to you while you read them bedtime stories; your teens will have a blast playing the Wii; you will savor romantic evenings while sipping wine watching a movie. This space is perfect for all kinds of fun!
--A half-acre property this close to the beach is rare. Under the house, you enjoy shady areas where you can breathe in the air and avoid getting too much sun. The path to the beach is hard to resist, and little ones love walking up the Private Bridge that protects the dunes. No need to worry about cars because you go directly from the house to the ocean. Along the way, you'll see beautiful dunes and sea oats. There are shallow tidal pools perfect for dipping your feet or playing with little ones. You will find yourself picking up one sea shell after another. A walk toward the Point at low-tide allows you to find huge shells in abundance. Fellow vacationers are family-oriented, friendly, and often cheer for teams from Duke University, the Univerity of North Carolina or North Carolina State. However, non-Carolinian visitors who come one time, end up coming again and again; many of us end up falling in love with Emerald Isle.
--'A Gem To Lookout ' also reminds you of lighthouses and nearby Cape Lookout, where you can find the biggest sea shells in the area. Samples of these abound around the house and allow us to admire some of the ocean's many treasures.

Emerald Isle was a well kept secret, perfect for family vacations: its wide, white beaches are never crowded, and the nearby Gulf Stream makes its waters perfect for swimming, water sports, and fishing. You can jump in the ocean with ease in early summer, not like those frigid waters up the East Coast. Bogue Sound (the waters between Emerald Isle and the mainland) is part of the Intercoastal Waterway with lots of quaint towns nearby, such as Swansboro or Beaufort. The North Carolina Aquarium is within an easy drive with lots to see and do, especially for children. Best of all, is grilling on the deck and sitting outside as the sun sets to the West. Later, when the stars come out, you will be thrilled by clearly visible constellations and falling stars. After an exhaustive search for a comfortable, accomodating, reasonably priced house on the Point, we found what truly turned out to be a GEM! The house is perfectly situated with views of the ocean, an easy walk to the beach, comfortable furniture and a relaxing atmosphere. My husband and son loved riding bikes to the Point to fish in the mornings and we all enjoyed seeing the deer roam the neighborhood! The accomodations are exceptional! Fortunately for us, we don't have to go through the exhaustive task of seaching for a place to spend our vacation this year...we are looking forward to making more lasting family memories at "A Gem to Look At".

Owner response: How gratifying to learn that last year's families are "looking forward to making more lasting memories at A Gem to Lookout." This house and beach offer so much, not only during the summer, but also throughout the year.

We spent a week at this gorgeous property and it couldn't have been any better, it is all as the first reviewer has described. The home is well furnished, everything you would need is provided, and is clean and very well maintained. In a quiet neighborhood with good views (it sits up on top of a small rise which makes the view of the ocean a cut above for this 2nd row property - more like a 1.5 row) with a private path to the beach and no street in between. The owners sent us an email before our visit, a nice touch. Robert and crew at Sun-Surf Realty deserve mention here, too - they are absolutely about customer service and insuring you are happy, we were very pleased and impressed with them. We will continue to visit A Gem To Lookout. Many thanks.

Owner response: What fun to hear from wonderful families who find A Gem to Lookout as gorgeous as we described. We are discovering the great joy of sharing its treasures with others: sipping cold drinks on the deck as the sun goes down; scrambling down the sandy path and over the little bridge right to the best beach anywhere; preparing meals in a well-stocked kitchen; napping in a hammock in the shade while the ocean breeze blows across your face; and knowing that the folks at Sun-Surf care about you and want you to have the kind of vacation you deserve. A Gem to Lookout can’t wait to see you again! Many thanks for your kind words.

Well, we have been home for 4 days from our week long stay at A Gem to Lookout. We would definitely stay here again. The house is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen has all you need (except food, of course) to prepare your meals. The granite is beautiful in the bathrooms and kitchen. We did have a little problem our second night there with the sink in the kitchen draining very slow and had to call maintenence but they fixed it the very next day. The deck is large and I loved the sitting area right off the master and all the deck chairs. Although you don't have complete ocean views the ones you have are very good, especially looking out from the master bedroom. The good thing about the location is that even though it is not directly on the beach you can walk there from the property without having to cross the street or go down to the public walkway. There is a private walk behind the house that goes directly to the beach. The area under the house is paved and there is plenty of room to park and wash/store all your beach/fishing gear. Breeze was very nice there too! I stayed there with my husband and four children and we had plenty of room. The Wii entertained my children a few times! But don't forget to ask at the rental office for the Wii controllers - we had to make a seperate trip back to get them! The boys ( hubby included) were out very early every morning and then again after supper, to fish off the Point which is easy to get to. Usually, I drove them down there (only about 4 - 5 blocks) because they had lots of gear and you are not allowed to park your vehicle at the access point. The girls and I easily walked down to the point to check on them sometimes and see what they were catching. They caught a lot of blues, a few rays and several black tipped sharks. Kept the blues and released everything else. We saw many deer in this particular neighborhood during our stay as well. The water was great and the beaches during our time there were not crowded at all. Our one day trip was to Shackleford banks. We took the Outer Banks Ferry service from Beaufort. We packed our lunch and lots of extra water and a tent and stayed out there all day. It was beautiful there and my youngest son was completely fascinated with the wild ponies on the island. We will recommend AG2LO to our friends and hope to return for another stay next summer. The owners contacted us before our stay by e-mail and are very friendly and helpful. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Owner response: What fun to learn about new ways to enjoy "A Gem to Lookout!" They say location is everything, and in this tight economy, having direct access to the beach by a private path, plus ocean views at second-row prices can't be beat. It's great to read that our guests appreciated the clean, new, and attractive interior, particularly the granite surfaces. " A Gem to Lookout" is set on an elevated lot and from its decks you can see both the ocean and the inlet at The Point, quite lovely at sunset. Few homes in this area have such panoramic views. As our wonderful guests pointed out, there are plenty of areas to enjoy the outdoors: the wide decks; the shady and breezy places under the house -- where you can hang up the hammock provided. The fishing sounds terrific, as well as the explorations of nearby beaches and towns, like Beaufort. We truly appreciate Val's thoughtful review and look forward to the family's return to "A Gem to Lookout."

                      Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: We fell in love with Emerald Isle and looked for three years for the perfect property, which we bought and renovated. We know family and friends will come to visit because we're so close to the beach and can see the ocean from nearly every room. Walking to the beach along our private path is such fun. We are now planning our move to Emerald Isle in the spring of 2013 but have decided to share our Gem with guests during the month of July/first days of August. We love to spend the day at the beach under a beach umbrella; take long runs or walks along the water's edge; or else hop on our bikes to explore Emerald Isle's long bike trails. We love going to Flippers or Nick's for a bite to eat.

Why the Owner Chose Emerald Isle:
We will be moving here in the spring of 2013. However, we've had such wonderful guests during the past two years that we decided to offer the best weeks of July 2013 (and first days of August 2013) so others may enjoy a great time at the beach. Bookings are taking place already for this limited availability. We suggest making a reservation as soon as possible. We have received great reviews on both VRBO's and our management company's website. It's been such joy to learn about the wonderful vacations folks have had and how much they have appreciated the beauty, comfort, and location of A Gem to Lookout.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
There's nothing like having breakfast (eggs with bacon and a hot cup of coffee, or blueberry pancakes in the shape of starfish, dolphins, and seashells) while looking out at the ocean. Our triplet, two-year-old grandchildren adore this house and know the way to the beach! At night, we head to the loft to watch our favorite shows or a movie, feet propped on the coffee table, and we dip into our favorite 'Chili con queso' from Wholefoods while sipping a beer. Whether in winter, spring, summer or fall, we savor every day at 'A Gem to Lookout.' As one of our neighbors says, 'This is paradise!' Another told us over New Year's weekend: a day at the beach is better than a cold day anywhere else. By May, you can count on the ocean temperature to rise, ready for swimming and body surfing! I love taking a shower outdoors and looking up to a blue sky, pelicans flying overhead. Then I nap in the shade on the hammoch before going on bike rides along Coast Guard Road. It's always hard to leave EI! Our consolation is thinking about returning soon.
