Sited on a sunny ridge on over three acres with heirloom apple trees, towering redwoods, and organic gardens, this peaceful, tasteful country retreat is close to Pacific Coast Beaches, wineries, Osmosis spa, and gourmet restaurants.
You'll arrive to find fresh eggs from our chickens; enjoy picking your own vegetables, fruits and herbs in season from our organic gardens.... Relax in a hammock and watch the hawks circle overhead....At night, you may hear owls and coyotes who make their home in the 60 acre forest adjacent to our land; stars twinkle in a truly dark sky.
The vacation rental space features soaring 12' high wooden ceilings, slate floors, original artwork and solid wooden furniture designed by the owner. The spacious living room with wood stove, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom all look out over a sunny patio and redwood glen. The sun-drenched patio overlooking redwoods offers a perfect place for outdoor dining.
West Sonoma County is renowned for its miles of protected Pacific Coast Beaches, Sonoma Wine Country, the Russian River, apple orchards, redwoods, organic family farms and some of the best cycling in California. Our property is minutes from Pacific Coast beaches, gourmet restaurants and wineries. Osmosis Spa and the villages of Freestone and Occidental are right down the road. Great vintage and antique shopping abounds in the many local boutiques.
Home to the husband-and-wife artist team of Wowhaus, the property offers a contemporary artists’ twist on the traditional family farm - a place where growing and making are part of daily life.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at Wowhaus twice and can not get enough of it. From the moment we arrived, we've felt completely relaxed. The setting - open orchards (where we picnicked) and redwood forest - is beautiful. The art and furnishings are cool, modern and calming, and the owners are GREAT, very helpful and knowledgeable about what to do in the area (we've become friends, and made dinner for them at the cabin during our second visit). It rained during part of our first visit, and we were so happy to be hanging out by the fire, feeling like we wanted to be nowhere but our cozy home. The second visit we did a lot of hanging out by the fire, too, but we also went out and explored. There's a TON of stuff to do in the area: amazing bakeries, wineries, hiking, the beach, the river, and lots of little towns to discover. Wowhaus is really wonderful. It's close to so much, but like us, you may never want to leave!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed here for a month to escape February in New England. We drove cross country with our two corgis and ended up feeling right at home here. The house has more than enough space for a couple and some canine companions, and even with working artists in residence on the property the rental felt perfectly private. It's near many wonderful places to play - wineries, a bike/hike rail trail, the coastal beaches, rivers for canoeing or kayaking, a zip line, farmers markets, etc - and great eateries, including restaurants of Sebastopol, Occidental, and Graton, plus the best bread ever at the Wildflour Bakery in Freestone. So much to do here that we didn't even get to all of it in a month! So we decided to buy our own place in Sonoma, and will be happy to count Ene & Scott among our new community of friends. (Do stop in and see their studios, they work in various media.) What's especially nice here is the peace and quiet and the lush property, which is alive with birds at all times. We made good se of the wood burn stove, too, as evenings get quite chilly!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a great time we had traveling to this area and being able to do so with our 4 legged "child" Jake (Australian Shepherd!). It was so great to be able to visit an area that is so welcoming to dogs (you can take your dog to some local restaurants!), and was so easily achievable with this clean, convenient and peaceful rental. The lodging is a very nice size, not too big, not too small! The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and falling asleep fast and easy. And the bathroom with two sinks, ideal for husband and wife!! Secluded in the redwoods, we drank wine on the beautiful patio, relaxed and read books to the sounds of the birds and gentle wind on the beautiful June mornings (making breakfast in the well stocked Kitchen) and evenings all while our Aussie investigated the property and played with the owner's dog bounding through the grass and redwood trees on the property! He even had chickens to entertain him too! So much better for our dog than a CRATE in a hotel room and so less stressful on us! The owners were extremely helpful providing area information, and went the extra distance to answer questions and help us find local resources for everything from trail maps to a local Realtor! So close to everything worthwhile in the area; wineries, beaches (Dillon and Doran - both dog friendly), friendly villages (Occidental and Sebastopol), great restaurants, and best of all, friendly people everywhere. We enjoyed the area so much, we are hoping to someday return as property owners ourselves. Thanks so much for making this type of rental available. We look forward to returning soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing.

I love the feeling of wilderness here, the quiet and the beautiful country setting with the flowers, vegetable garden, redwoods, and wildflowers. It's a great place to bask in the sun, relaxing and reading a book. I also like visiting the village of Freestone, just down the road, with the Wildflour Bakery and the great little boutique next door, which has good jewelry and hats. We really enjoy driving the scenic country roads, especially the drive to the nearby town of Occidental with the tiny French Bistro de Copains. The rental is spacious and nicely furnished; I highly recommend it!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: We are a husband-and-wife art/design team who live and work on the property adjacent to the vacation rental; we'll be happy to show you work in progress if time allows.... Scott is an accomplished woodworker and Ene is an avid organic gardener. Ask us about our favorite cycling and hiking routes, wine country day trips, and the many unique nurseries and farms to visit in the region...
Why the Owner Chose Occidental:
We were struck by the friendly, open quality of the West Sonoma County community - avid winemakers and chefs are friends with surfers, ranchers and organic farmers...At night, the quiet, dark sky is filled with stars, a true luxury. Landscape painters and nature photographers seek out this unique landscape for its natural beauty; come visit and you'll understand why.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
West Sonoma County is the undiscovered Wine Country....we love the rolling hills and unspoiled countryside dotted with farms, the redwood forests and Russian River - perfect for cycling and hiking, and all only 10 minutes from Pacific Coast Beaches. Doran Beach, 10 minutes away, is dog friendly and sought out by bird watchers and surfers alike. Osmosis Spa, just down the hill in the village of Freestone, has a beautiful Japanese Garden along with relaxing spa treatments; afterward, stop at Freestone Bakery for fresh-baked wood-fired organic bread. We love sharing our favorite bicycle routes, organic farm tours, and, of course, restaurants and wineries that abound here.
