Two story gambrel facing south providing gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. This southern setting assures sun exposure early morning until sunset. Since it is located mid way down the north shore of the main lake, you have an unobstructed view to the far shore and adjacent islands in this open part of the lake. Use the availible canoe, rowboat, or paddle boat to explore the many islands, or take the lake outlet a short way down the shore to access Little St. George and the river. House has a dining area with table that seats six, living room with glass front wood stove (wood available) and two glass sliders for viewing the lake from both rooms. Small reading area at top of stairs overlooks lake, and has another twin bed. The downstairs master bedroom has a double bed, and two upstairs bedrooms have two beds in each. Small second story front balcony provides a unique lake view, and the large front deck with picnic table, deck chairs and gas grille will make you want to stay outside.
Natural front yard leads down to the dock and stone stairway into the lake. Camp fires are allowed in the chiminea next to the lake. There is an undeveloped lot next door (which belongs to the camp's owner who summers in the camp beyond it) for kids to play and provides privacy on that side. A picturesque small brook flows through the lot, and provides endless hours of exploring for kids. The secluded camp roads and trails around the camp are great for a walk. Haystack mountain (10 minute drive) is a perfect family hike to the blueberry fields. The State Park is located at the other end of the lake, a 10 minute drive to the boat launch with adjacent vehicle/trailer parking (no charge for either). Monitor heater in living room will heat the whole house when cooler. Camp uses the lake for general water. Even though the lake is amazingly clear and clean, drinking water is provided by a 5 gallon hot/cold water station. Extra bottles are provided.
Lake St. George is a well known fishing lake providing ample area for sailing and boating. One of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Maine (has a very active lake association), it is home to many loon families that cruise just off shore numerous times during the day. Do not be surprised to see deer and other wildlife around during your stay. Driving to Belfast, Camden, and other ocean front fishing towns provides a glimpse into Maine shore life and offers sailing and site seeing tours. Go to Lincolnville to the lobster shack and watch the island ferry while eating onshore. The Maine State Capitol of Augusta is nearby with shopping and historical sites. Freeport (home of LL Bean and the outlet shopping mecca) is an hour away.
Spring and early season you almost have the lake to yourself. Fall provides great folliage viewing from this central location, and the lake is incredibly quiet.
Two hour cleaning service is provided by an outside vendor. You need to have dishes done, general broom cleanup done at checkout. Towels, linens, etc... are not provided, so please bring them along ( full bed downstairs, 5 twins upstairs). Blankets and pillows are provided.

About: Barbara lives in South Portland and summers on Lake St. George in her camp next door.. She and husband Gene (deceased) purchased the adjacent camp in the mid 1960's and the gambrel later. Barbara stays active swimming and hiking during the summer and walking in the winter. She is a grandmother and great grandmother, and becomes a grammy to many of the children that stay at the gambrel. Many of the renters have become friends of Barbara's after their stay, and she sees these same families each year.
Listing is managed by her son Mark. Your responses will be answered by him.
Why Liberty: It is the property next door to the undeveloped lot between the two properties. My children enjoyed many summers on this lake, and it has so many wonderful and happy memories attached to it.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: This property allows you to get close to nature without camping. Children get to experience the outdoors and provides families a week of uninterupted together time.
