1 Blue Grouse Lane is a wonderful house in a great location, and we think you'll agree. It is a comfortable home with lofted ceilings, a gas fireplace, and lots of cedar. 1 Blue Grouse Lane is conveniently located between Circles 5 and 6, with easy north access from Cottonwood Road, off US Highway 97. The south entry is near Sunriver Village, also off Highway 97. Blue Grouse borders the Deschutes River, with access to the walking/bike path along the river 100 meters away at the end of the street. A short walk along the River to the Cardinal Landing bridge leads you to the National Forest. Mt. Bachelor is a 20-25 minute drive.
The house is in a peaceful and tranquil setting with much wildlife on view. It's a 5 minute walk to the Woodlands golf course, North tennis courts and pool, and a short drive or bike ride to the north grocery store. The main village and its environs includes the Country Store (for groceries), shops, and restaurants, all a short drive away. The Meadows golf course at the Sunriver Lodge, the SHARC (the new aquatic and rec center), and the ice rink (winter only) are also only minutes away from the house by car or bike.
Our 1850 square foot, 3 bedroom house comfortably sleeps nine guests and has a large garage and paved parking area. The downstairs master bedroom features a new king bed (recently furnished with new bed linens), private bath, huge closet, two large dressers, room for relaxing, and a TV. Two additional bedrooms with all new bed linens and a full bath are located upstairs. One bedroom has a queen bed (also with new bed linens) and TV. The other has two sets of bunk beds as well as a TV and VCR. Both have ample closet space. The loft area overlooks the great room and has a daybed for lounging or sleeping.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessities to make a simple breakfast to a gourmet meal, with place settings for 12. The adjoining dining area has a large table and four bar stools at the kitchen island.
The house has a great room that is homey and spacious. Both the dining area and living room are lofted to the upstairs with a cedar and beam ceiling. The living room has new, leather couch, love seat, armchair with ottoman, end tables, and lamps as well as a new gas fireplace. The entertainment center has an HD programmable TV, BlueRay player, and radio with iPod dock. We have supplied the house with an inventory of games, movies, quirky books (perhaps the only house in Sunriver with an unabridged dictionary), novels, and children's books and videos for your enjoyment.
The large, divided deck has 2 dining tables, 15 chairs, 3 side tables, natural gas grill, and hot tub. (The tables and chairs are stored in the garage in winter.) We supply 6 adult bikes, 1 midsize bike, 2 minibikes, and 1 small child bike as well as a bike trailer. In winter, the driveway is plowed when it snows, and the walks are shoveled to the front door and from the back door over the deck to the hot tub.

Sunriver is a 3300 acre treasure island surrounded by a wonderland. Located at about 4000 ft. elevation, the air is clean and clear. The local Chambers of Commerce advertise 300 days of sunshine/yr. 37 miles of paved bike/walking/running paths wind through the trees throughout the entire community. In addition to the pools, the main tennis courts, and the rec center, there are several other parks with tennis and basketball courts and plenty of space for other outdoor games and fun.
There are stables where you can board your own horses or rent horses for guided trail rides as well as pony rides for small children. The marina rents kayaks, canoes, and rafts and runs a pick up service at a location several miles downstream for its or your own gear. The stables and marina are not open in winter. Other stores in the Village also rent marine gear as well as bicycles, skiing equipment, and snowshoes. The Nature Center and Observatory provides guided nature walks and assisted use of the Observatoriy's many telescopes, including 2 solar telescopes. Check the fee schedule for the use of both or either facility. Check the Sunriver Owners Association web site for fuller descriptions of activities and for the seasonal schedules.
The bridge at Cardinal Landing, about 3/8 of a mile NW of our house on the paved path, crosses the Deschutes River into the National Forest. The bridge is closed to vehicular traffic but open to those on foot, bike, or horseback. The Forest Service roads offer miles of fun hiking, running, biking, and trail riding surfaces. Our house is a half hour or less from the parking lot of the Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, which offers some of the best skiing conditions in the Northwest.
Sunriver is surrounded by the National Forest, the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, the spectacular landscapes of the Newberry Crater National Volcanic Monument, and is on the edge of the Oregon High Desert. Summer renters may make easy day trips to Crater Lake, Newberry Crater, Diamond Lake, McKenzie Pass (one of the real scenic treasures of the US), Lava River Cave, Lava Cast Forest, Lava Butte, the Lava Lands Visitor Center, Fort Rock, the Oregon High Desert Museum, and many other of the areas wonders. For the first 8 of these, always check road conditions beforehand: many of the roads and sites are open only seasonally. Rock climbers: Smith Rock is less than 1 hour north of our house. The state park there is also a great place to hike. Bend, a thriving city of 80,000, is about 15 miles to the north. The charming village of Sisters is another half hour NW of Bend.
