We had the pleasure of staying at "Nelly" for the first time, recently. We cannot say enough about this beautiful cottage or the grounds on which it sits. There is a large play-scape for the children, a volleyball court, a nice sized beach, a mini-marina, and peninsula for fishing, plus wonderfully maintained grounds. The cottage itself was just perfect, and the fact that you can sit at the kitchen table and gaze out at that beautiful lake without any obstructions, is our definition of serenity. We did spend most of our time outside (gorgeous weather) in the yard and near the water. On our one cold/overcast day, we enjoyed the cottage itself with its stone fireplace, by playing cards and cooking up some great meals in the kitchen. And while we did not venture out, the location is just a short drive from all that the Traverse City area has to offer. The cottage is well maintained and was very clean. The owner was a pleasure to work with -- readily available and promptly answered all of our questions prior to our trip. We would highly recommend "Nelly" to others and plan to book another stay next summer.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

About the owner: I grew up in Traverse City and always knew someday I wanted a to have a cottage back up north. I rented a cottage on Lake Leelanau and fell in love at first night, I know you will do the same when you visit.
Why the Owner Chose Lake Leelanau:
It's charming, quiet, and the lake is one of the most beautiful I have ever experienced. It's a slower simple way of life that provides a get away from every day life. The people are amazingly friendly, you can get to know them in a week and be a 'local' The community is very eco friendly, people care about preserving the environment. Leelanau County isn't developed, it's filled with amazing views of water every where, hills of fruit farms, and gorgeous old farmhouses. You can get everywhere by boat, that was important to me. I love the nights around the firepit, the stars up north are amazing on clear nights, and the property is kept pristine. I know you will find the 'up north' way of life a place like no other.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
You will enjoy gorgeous sunsets, the cottage faces the west so everynight you can toast to the sunset! There is a private firepit right out in front of the cottage. There is a playground for kids and a shared sandy beach on the property. Bring your boat and dock it in a private harbor. Swim in a hard bottom sandy clear lake, muck free. Lake Leelanau provides some of the most beautiful waters filled with varieties of fresh water fish- walleye, perch, and many pan fish to name a few. Many outdoor activities at and around the cottage. If you love nature and being outside, this is your place! The cottage also has a stone gas fireplace. My favorite is waking up in the morning and having a cup of fresh coffee while dangling my toes in the water and maybe letting minnows nibble ....
