A wonderful ocean side home
A wonderful ocean side home
This home in Alberton was more than what we had anticipated. My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had such a wonderful time! This is a 5 minute walk to a fairly secluded sandy beach on Prince Edward Island. It's well out of town and privacy is assured here. There are gardens and plum trees on the property in a very well taken care of lawn. The inside of the house is comfortable and homey. There is an abundance of book shelves filled with books of almost any subject that suits your fancy! We also enjoyed some movies that we found near the television in the living room. With laundry in the basement and a kitchen with every cooking implement we could dream of we were want for nothing! Emily, the landlord, was more than accommodating and let us know about many of the nearby things to do on the island. We wound up traveling to Cavendish a few nights out of the week that we stayed. It was less than an hour and a half drive away, which isn't bad to us, being from Maine where everything is about an hour away. Our honeymoon was picturesque in this lovely home, and the kindness of Emily Wells and the people she works with made everything about our stay here a delightful adventure. We will certainly stay here again if given the chance!

About the owner: Award-winning chef Emily Wells was born in London, England. She lived with her family in England, Germany and Sweden before returning to Canada in 1974 when her parents bought Cold Comfort Farm. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of Canada, Emily has been the Executive Chef of The Dunes Cafe in Brackley Beach, PEI since 2002. For more information on The Dunes Cafe, visit: http://www.dunesgallery.com/dining.html.
Why the Owner Chose Mill River East:
The Wells family settled the Dock River area in the 1800's, clearing and establishing a number of farms, including one that neighbours this property. Our grandfather, Jim Wells, bought the house in 1954 from Willard Inman, the son of the original fox farm ranchers. Our family came back to the Island in 1974, fulfilling the dictum that all Islanders eventually move home. It was a glorious place to grow up, with wonderful spots in the woods and on the beach for childhood adventures.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house itself, designed by a shipwright and built to last, is well-suited both for gatherings and for private time - the ground floor flows graciously from room to room, while the bedrooms on the second floor offer a calm retreat. Outside, we love to sit on the steps of the back porch, in the morning with coffee, and in the early evening with a beer. Between the morning and evening, walk down to the beach, beautiful at any hour, or up to the woods to follow cool meandering paths.
