Our home features an open concept floorplan that flows out onto the front veranda through 4 beautiful large glass doors. Built on a hillside overlooking the quaint town, there are several terraced outdoor living areas. Just below the house is a large stone surfaced terrace with a tree growing in the middle, providing adequate sun and shade.
The home is quite private, and while the 4 m x 8 m (12 ft x 24 ft) infinity pool is considered shared, it is only shared with the adjacent twin house. Both homes may be rented together to larger groups, accommodating 18 in total. Because of the terracing, and the other house being below ours, anyone staying there cannot see into any of our spaces and vice versa. The pool is located behind the other house, further up the hill, but adjacent to ours. Anyone staying in the other house cannot see the pool, but there is a great view of the pool from our master bedroom and front veranda.
The bathroom in the master bedroom is only accessible through the bedroom, making it a very private space. The main bathroom is ensuite to the second bedroom but also accessible from the main living area through a separate doorway. Both bedrooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans while the loft bedroom has two wall fans directed at the sleeping area. Due to the constant gentle breeze, air conditioning in the main part of the house is not necessary.
Keywords: 2 bedrooms with king size beds, private loft with two twin beds, 3 twin sofa beds, oceanview, infinity pool overlooks ocean & town, covered veranda with rocking chairs and hammocks, separate large terrace with gas bbq.

Very nice, clean and tastefully decorated beach house perched on a hill with a beautiful view of the San Juan del Sur bay. I like this house because of its proximity to downtown San Juan (you can walk) where you can dine or shop or you can also choose to stay home and sit by the pool. The owners offer the services of a cook for the day and her fees are incredibly low. The only problem is that this home is not handicap accessible.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We had a really awesome time at Casa Tranquila. The house has everything you need and is tucked away in just the perfect spot. We traveled in January and the weather was great. The house sits up high on a hill and we got a great breeze throughout the house. We shopped at the Pali and we bought seafood at the local market. We had some great dinners and got to relax and enjoy the town. You definitely do not need a car but it is a good walk up the house. We had our 3yr old with us and the walk definitely tuckered him out. The only negative for us or more me was that the veranda wasn't very secure for a little one. But that depends of course on your kid, ours is pretty rambunctious so a little stressful for me but everyone survived. Katalina is pretty awesome, anything you need she can arrange for you. My husband wanted to go fishing and she setup that morning. Barrio Cafe is really good for breakfast and Katalina recommended Vivienne's for dinner and it was good and well priced. I definitely recommend Casa Tranquila, it was clean, quiet & met all our needs. Can't wait to stay here again.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Tranquilla. It was the perfect setting up on the hill just a short walk from town. Everything in the house was very westernized and the AC was very nice to have at night. The pool is set in the most amazing spot also and it's truly a tranquil spot to spend a holiday. We would highly recommend choosing this place to stay and in the future we will be considering this place highly again if we come to SJDS.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Our group of 4 (2 couples around 30 years old) stayed at Casa Tranquila at the start of January and absolutely loved it. We never were able to connect with Harry while we were there, but Catalina was around quite a bit and was one of the sweetest people we'd ever met. My friend and I were walking back from town one day and she happened to be going up to the property in a cab and offered us a ride which was very thoughtful. Beds very comfortable, A/C in the rooms wonderful, always had hot water showers which was a bonus, lots of channels on the TV (not that we used it much!), wifi worked perfectly throughout our stay... pool fantastic (especially after hiking up the hill to the house and being able to cool off instantly!) It's an easy walk into town, I'd say under 5 minutes for sure. Coming back is pretty steep for the last part but anyone in ok shape would have no problem. We took a cab back once and it was only 100 Cordobas so that would have been a great option too, and lots of cabs easy to find. Being up in the hills, we did come across a few creepy crawlies, but as everyone should know - if seeing some bugs is going to ruin your holiday, stay home or at least don't complain about it (and I hate bugs as much as anyone!) Lucky for us, our boyfriends didn't seem to mind taking them outside for us so problem solved! We had spent the first week in the Corn Islands (LOVED), but also really enjoyed San Juan del Sur and the huge assortment of restaurants/bars to choose from, and also having a full kitchen to pick up our own food and drinks to just relax and enjoy the house. Perfect end to our holiday, would absolutely recommend! Oh and if you have a large group travelling together, there is an identical house below which shares the infinity pool.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What a beautiful place! We had a great stay, enjoying the view and breezes. This trip we became property owners just up the road, and can't wait to start building. We absolutely love San Juan del Sur! Katalina was a gem and WOW can she cook. She helped us keep 4 teenagers happy with awesome food, practiced Spanish with us and became like family. Thanks for having this place in paradise!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Casa Tranquila is hardly the description we would use to describe our week spent here. Having 8 chicas under one roof was anything but tranquil, though thoroughly fun!! Hats off to Katalina for taking such good care of 8 loco girls. And she sure is one hell of a cook. Our time spent here was short lived but never forgotten. We wish we could stay longer and wake up to a beautiful view and fall asleep to a star filled night sky. Hopefully visit again one day. Thanks again, 8 Canadian girls!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I stayed in this house in May and November 2011, and would definitely stay there again. The house is in a very quiet, private area, but the nearby guardhouse and other residences make it a safe and secure place to stay. You can tell that the owners really care about this house, as it is very well equipped. I agree with the owner that air conditioning is unnecessary in the main living area, since the breeze off the water keeps the house quite comfortable. While the house itself is beautiful and well-built, the real selling feature is the gorgeous infinity pool that offers privacy and a great view of the town and the ocean. San Juan del Sur itself is a great place to visit that offers many diverse activities, and the people are great. I would recommend it as a vacation destination to anyone.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: My husband and I love to travel to sunny, tropical locations and have been considering purchasing a vacation property for several years but just hadn't found the right country until we arrived in Nicaragua. Living in a part of Canada that gets plenty of cold, wet weather, we plan to spend more and more time in SJDS over the coming years with a goal to eventually retiring there.
Why the Owner Chose San Juan Del Sur:
After travelling around Nicaragua for several weeks in February 2011, we arrived in San Juan del Sur for our final week of vacation. The people were friendly and show pride in their town. After 12 hours, we both loved it and felt very safe. It only took us a few days to discover all the hidden jewels of the town, from restaurants to shops, tours and activities. It was most important to us to be able to purchase groceries and other products that we are accustomed to and the local offerings did not disappoint. Having lobster dinner on the beach for $13 - or cocktails, wine and lobster dinner for two at under $40 certainly helped with the decision to purchase in SJDS!!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our vacation home is truly a 5 minute walk to shops and restaurants and only another 3 minutes to the beach. The view of town and the ocean is spectacular. The peace and tranquility of this new development called Paradise Bay is at the south end of San Juan del Sur and really doesn't require a car as do the other surrounding developments. And if we're feeling lazy, a quick inexpensive taxi ride gets us to where we need to be. There are plenty of inexpensive taxis and shuttles to get you to nearby surfing beaches as well as tour companies that can do longer day trips to outlying areas. The beach in SJDS is great for playing in the small surf or laying about, with plenty of bars and restaurants to serve you. The marina there offers fresh seafood for sale, fishing trips and fun sailing excursions to nearby beaches.
