A family vacation to remember! We have been welcoming visitors to Colonial Beach for two seasons and so happy to see their great comments and welcome them back again and again. The house we newly renovated in 2011 and in 2013 we are adding hard wood flooring in the livingroom and diningroom. The Beachcomber I is a family and pet friendly 4 bedroom, 2 bath vacation home, steps to the beach, shops and restaurants...please come and enjoy!!!
The beauty of the Beachcomber is it is perfect for families and couples. The first floor bedroom and bathroom, give a couple looking to get-away great one-story living. If you have a family with you, the three bedrooms and one bath upstairs is great for additional guests.
The enjoyment of the Beachcomber I isn't limited to the house. It has a fenced yard, great for children and pets. A kids clubhouse is in the backyard. Relax in the hammock under the holly tree, or on the chaise lounge under the Magnolia or Honeysuckle. Also we feature a gas grill and covered picnic area; great for crab picking! And just steps from the house are restaurants, shops, the beach, and fishing pier...be sure to get a soft serve ice cream at Nancy's!
Colonial Beach, Virginia; 60 miles from DC,but a world away... Colonial Beach, Virginia...the Gateway to the Northern Neck of Virginia.... a beach front haven, less than 2 hours from DC, along the Potomac River. Many say, it is place that time has forgotten with it's slow pace, friendly people who wave as they drive past you on their golf carts, wide beaches where the Potomac River is 4 to 6 miles wide, within minutes to historical attractions; George Washington's Birthplace; the Lee Family Home, Stratford Plantation, explore Westmoreland State Park, and find Shark's teeth and more, great boating, fishing, crabbing, and discover the Chesapeake Wine Trail. several great waterfront restaurants, waterfront live bands on weekends during the summer, and great crabs. Our guests have discovered that Kings Dominion Amusement and Water Park are only a short one hour drive away.
Spring and fall are also a beautiful time at the Beach. Come and enjoy a much quieter waterfront and explore the regions history and wineries!
Thanks for looking and be prepared to fall in love with Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck!

Took a chance to rent something not seen in person. However, the property was better than described. Expecting an older home, we were pleasantly surprised that the house looked newer than the photo. The inside was ideal and was expecting that old home musty smell. The interior was bright and fresh smelling. The rooms were exactly as described and plenty of room for everyone without being on top of each other. The beach was an easy walk except that the sand was a courser type than we were used to. I would recommend telling the guests to bring water shoes as the sand is course and there are some rocks in the swimming area. Everything you need to make meals and cook is in the kitchen. The Grandkids loved the little clubhouse. And the back room is an added bonus for the kids to play the video games and not be in the way of everyone. They can spend time by themselves. The town is small and not crowded. This leaves all the time to spend with the family and on the beach. No intimidation to go to the shopping malls or any other attractions as there are none in the immediate area. We did make a day trip to the amusement park Kings Dominion which is an hour away. Not too far for everyone to travel. The park is terriffic..... Water Park and Thrill rides for the older kids. I would not hesitate to recommend this to family, friends or anyone. The owner gave as much information we requested. I could not have asked for anything more except if the house was right on the beach. We did not eat at any local restaurants as we cooked our meals in the house. We don't get together that often to eat all together. So this was a good change. The process for reserving the property was straight forward and all my questions were answered up front. Thanks for EverythingOwner response: We are so glad we could host your first family vacation away with your kids and grandchildren. The house has played host to many families and like you, they all enjoy the space and the location. They, too, have often commented that without the distractions of a mall and active boardwalk; they spend more time together enjoying the area's history, cooking out, eating crabs, going to the beach; or just relaxing. Thanks for staying and hope to see you again, Cathy For the Bokman and Byle Families

My friends and I were in town for a dart tournament at the local Moose Lodge. There were 7 of us and we were all amazed at the space and comfortability of this house. It was like visiting a relatives home with all the amenities! It was within walking distance to all the fun stuff we wanted to do in addition to being only 5 minutes drive from the Moose Lodge. I'm planning on making my way back to Colonial Beach and will definitely try to check the availability on this house for all my future visits there.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Regina, Thanks for your staying with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a fun time and were comfortable at the Beachcomber I. We spent a lot of time trying to make sure our guests would have a pleasant and comfortable stay. Look forward to seeing you again! Cathy

Our family and another adult friend (our Alice :) ) vacationed here in late July. With 5 active children ages 10-17, we needed a place with plenty of room to have our own spaces. The Beachcomber offered that and so much more! Our kids loved the bikes and golf carts to get around the town. We felt safe letting them go the 2 blocks to the beach or down the road a few blocks to get ice cream. Most beach activities, shops, restaurants and more are walking distance from this home. It was perfectly clean and comfortable, and the owners were very attentive and responded quickly to our inquiries. We utilized all of the sleeping venues and all were comfortable and allowed us to get a good night's sleep to go about our fun the next day. Activities within 15-30 mins drive are RE Lee house. GW birthplace, golf, state park, and shopping for beach gear and groceries is only 10 mins away! We spent a day in Freerichsburg, about 30 mins away, and visited more historic places like Chatham House and battlefields. Wineries are 10 mins away by car, and Manassis is onlly about 1 hour. Absolutely perfect for short trips or to stay local. Many amenities and very friendly locals willing to assist if needed we chatted with a few really nice neighbors, too! We would go back in a heartbeat! Most relaxing and stress-free family vacation we have ever taken since we all had plenty of space. Do not hesitate to stay here!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We all enjoyed our week at the Beachcomber. With 4 adults and 2 children there was still plenty of room for us to all have our own space when needed. Everything was immaculate and there was everything we needed for our stay. The house was beautifully decorated. It was evident a lot of time and thought went into the choices throughout the house. It is a short walk to the beach and a few small shops. The High Tides restaurant on the beach was very good as well as the Dockside restaurant at the Marina and of course, Denson's Grocery with its made to order sandwiches is a must. Rocky, the owner, was very friendly and very helpful with questions we had about the area. Cathy, the Beachcombers owner was very friendly and heplful.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Karen, We were so glad that we could host your famiy while you cheered your daughter on during the International Jet Ski Races...congrats on her wins! Nice to hear that you enjoyed our vacation rental and the area. The area has allot to offer from relaxing, the beach, history, and wineries. Please come back and see us again! My husband and I enjoyed the Beachcomber for 10 days and loved every minute of our stay. The house is a delight and so is the owner. The Beachcomber is a brand new renovation and perfectly charming. The interior far exceeds most rentals with carefully, and tastefully, chosen designer decor. The colors are restful, everything is coordinated and comfortable just as the photos depict. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked for preparing meals. The bathrooms are charming and the shower is powerful and warm. Everything is spotless. There's a spacious fenced yard that our pups enjoyed very much. The house is within walking distance of everything Colonial Beach has to offer. The town is a hidden gem, too, on a wide expanse of the Potomac and there are lots of things to do. You can rent a golf cart, the preferred mode of transportation by locals, and visitors. It's a super art town...the Jarrett Thor Gallery is not to be missed. The neighborhoods are funky and beautiful all at the same time! There are really good restaurants including Dockside, The Lighthouse, and wonderful French/Thai food just down the street from the house. There's a small grocery store that's not to be missed...Densons...and located across the street and down a block. I highly recommend the Beachcomber.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Susan, Like many, including myself and my husband, once you discover Colonial Beach, you are hooked! From your comments, you discovered some of the best of the Beach; with even more to discover in the Northern Neck.....wineries, history, and more. It was great to meet you and your husband, and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Beachcomber and hope to be able to welcome you again, soon! Cathy for the Bokman and Byle Families

We really enjoyed our stay at your cottage, it was perfect for both adults and kids. The kitchen is spacious and equipped with everything you could need. The kids adored the playhouse, we really appreciate the special touches throughout the house geared towards kids, i.e. kid movies, crayons and coloring books, and toys in the clubhouse, thank you! The proximity to the beach can't be beat. We enjoyed our stay in Colonial Beach and were happy to get a chance to check out the museum and the local antique shop. We were also impressed that the cottage was very nicely renovated but still maintained much of its historic character.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Jill, We are so glad that you and your friends enjoyed your stay at the Beachcomber in Colonial Beach! As you know, the cottage is owned by three families; 6 adults,4 kids, a dog, and a cat. The kids were instrumental in "designing" the clubhouse, I will pass along your message to them...they will be excited! We have heard from others that the location close to the beach and shops is great...glad you agreed and also took the time to visit our History Museum; just across the street. The crabs are great at the beach, glad you and your friends could have a crab feast under our covered picnic area; no better way to spend time together! Thanks for staying, and come back and see us soon and often! Cathy Bokman Byle and Bokman Families

Beachcomber was wonderfully set up for three generations of our family together. We had plenty of attractive, comfortable space, and enjoyed the proximity to the water. Westmoreland Berry Farm was also a huge hit with our kids.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay! The Beachcomber was set-up to accomodate a variety of guests; couples who would enjoy one floor living and then the second floor with the three bedrooms and bath for their expanded families. It was gratifying in meeting this family, to hear from their youngest; that the "clubhouse" was great; especially the tea set and watching father and son grab their baseball gloves to play a game of catch in the backyard! The Beachcomber is a great place to call home while exploring all that Colonial Beach and the Northern Neck has to offer, from the beach, just steps away...to the Westmoreland Berry Farm, Wineries, and history. Thanks for staying!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: There are three families that own The Beachcomber. Each of us contribute our special talents from renovation, decoration, marketing, and management. I have worked in the hotel industry all of my career and enjoy welcoming people to our home or to several of the rental properties we own; so I speak on behalf of all of the owners; we look forward to having you and your family as our guest.
Why the Owner Chose Colonial Beach:
My husband George and I first discovered Colonial Beach on a day trip adventure from Chevy Chase, Maryland about 7 years ago. After several weekends, we bought a small cottage. Through the years, we have had lots of friends and family stay with us. All of them have fallen in love with the Town of Colonial Beach. Last summer my sister and George's brother started to look at houses; and together in February of this year; all three families joined together to buy this house built in 1940. All of us, with help of some great professionals have been working hard through a renovation to make it ready for guests this summer. We chose this house because of its great spaces, yard, and a location that is convenient to everything the beach has to offer.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This location is 'in town', which is fun in a small town. You are only steps from the beach, main fishing pier, shops, galleries, the Museum, library, restaurants, and entertainment. Also, this house is great for your family with a nice yard, covered picnic area for crabs, hammock, chaise lounges, and children's club house.
