  The Mermaid Suite was absolutely perfect for my husband and I. We stayed for 4 nights and really enjoyed the privacy of the apartment and how well maintained it is, inside and out. It is a precious place and very nicely appointed. The owner did all the wood working inside the apartment himself, and it really is special. The apartment was equipped with everything we needed- kitchen utensils, extra blankets/pillows, washer/dryer with laundry soap, wood for the outdoor fire pit, etc. We would recommend this place to anyone and would love to stay again!

  My fiance and I stayed at the Wayfaring Mermaid suite for a week in September, and couldn't be happier with our experience there! Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are gorgeous that time of year. We spent our time hiking, kayaking, biking the carriage trails, golfing, and just enjoying the area. Monique and Joe have done an amazing job setting up the suite. The layout was perfect for the two of us, being cozy but at the same time large enough that if one of us wanted to sleep in an extra couple hours, the other had space to get things done with out being a distraction. The kitchen was well equipped with modern appliances and kitchenware, and craftsmanship of whole suite was impressive. The patio area, which we made good use of having friends over for a bbq/lobster bake (complete with some fresh vegetable samples from the Hanson's garden, which they generously provided), was awesome. What's better than surf and turf around a nice outdoor fire on a gorgeous September Maine night?? The Hulls' Cove location is far enough away from the bustle of downtown that you can avoid the crowds when you need to, but is also close enough to where nothing seems all that far to get to. Monique and Joe were really helpful in providing local advice for where to go, and what to see, and only cemented our opinion that folk from Maine tend to be genuine, friendly people. We would definitely stay there again, and plan on recommending The Wayfaring Mermaid to anyone we know heading up to that area. Thanks again, Monique and Joe!

  My wife and I stayed here for 4 days to celebrate our 36th anniversary and visit Acadia National Park. Our goal was to find a place that was close to Acadia and the town of Bar Harbor. The location of this property is perfect! It was only a few minutes from the main entrance of the park, and maybe 15 minutes to Bar Harbor. We have rented quite a few properties listed on VRBO for our travels and found most of them to be very nice, but I can honestly say that this was absolutely the cleanest place we have ever rented. I'm talking spotless! The unit is fairly new and most of the work was done by the owners who obviously take pride in their work. The kitchen cabinets and furniture were built by Joe, and judging from the result, he must be quite skilled.. The courtyard is super nice and a great place to hang out after a day of sightseeing. The owners are both very nice and quite accommodating. Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay is provided. I would absolutely rent this property again, and I highly recommend it to those needing no more than one bedroom.

  The description and pictures of The Wayfaring Mermaid are spot on! The place is beautifully built with lots of attention to detail. It's small, yet feels spacious due to the set up and lovely way it's decorated. All the kitchen gadgets you could want and then some! Monique and Joe even have marshmallow roasting forks available! I really enjoyed having a washer/dryer, especially after having wet clothes from tidal pooling! That was a HUGE bonus! We really enjoyed the outdoor space. The patio is expertly done, and there are lots of fun decorating details to look at. We roasted marshmallows in the outdoor fireplace, which was a big hit with the kids. The location is perfect...not downtown Bar Harbor (too noisy and crowded), but only about 5 minutes away from there. My kids even went tidal pooling at the end of our street, followed by ice cream in the shop at the end of the street. Acadia is less than half a mile up the road. You couldn't ask for a better location! Really perfect. The pullout couch leaves a bit to be desired....the mattress is pretty thin. If you're sleeping more than 2 people, I'd bring an air mattress and leave the pullout folded up. That is the only (mild) complaint I have. You really cannot beat this place...the ammenities, the location, and the outside space make it really special. When we return to Bar Harbor, we'll stay here again.

We are aware of the sleep sofa matress and regretfully we have to agree but it is somewhat the nature of the beast. We are however looking at options for better comfort while not creating a combersome solution our guests are left to deal with.

  Joe and Monique have thought of everything. This is, without a doubt, the best-equipped rental we've ever stayed in. The kitchen has everything (not just new appliances, but even separate wine and beer glasses and other little extras such as a picnic set), the bath is clean and the washer and dryer are top quality. The apartment's location is very quiet, the bed is firm yet very comfortable, we sat on the deck in the early evening and enjoyed the serene atmosphere--and consequently felt exceedingly rested. By car just a couple of minutes to Bar Harbor and all the restaurants and shops, yet also just far enough away from the hustle and bustle. There's also a good restaurant on the bay within walking distance. Have already recomended this rental to friends and relatives, and we will definitely return!

  My husband and I stayed here for a week in August for his R&R after being separated for 6 months by a deployment. Reintegrating can be tough, especially on a vacation; however, we found our accommodations to be nothing short of "home". Joe and Monique were very easy to work with and were easy to access if we ever had any questions. We adored the many simple little things around the place such as the under-bed lighting, laundry detergent, and tourist brochures, but overall the apartment is very clean, super cute, well built/designed, and nicely decorated. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessary cooking utensils which we used daily. They even had a lobster pot and grill where we boiled our very first lobsters! The patio is a great place to chill and drink a beer or just hang-out. If we ever make it back to Bar Harbor we will definitely stay here again!

  We spent five nights in the suite and we couldn't have asked for a better landing ped for our family of three. The apartment is beautifully constructed and well stocked. Everything was just as described. What the description does not tell you is how warm, kind and accomadating Monique and Joe are; our seven year old daughter was their fast friend and they were so gracious to her. They also gave us great advice a to a running trail into the park from the house and some hikes in the park. We spent most of our week in Acadia and this location was perfect. Also, the outdoor patio was awesome and a great place for our lobster feast! We enjoyed fresh vegetables from their garden and our daughter really benefited from having a safe outdoor space to play when we were at the apartment. It was perfect and I highly recommend it.

You were on the go and so active it was like a field test for all our planning and all the extras we provide. We are pleased we held up well. Your lobster feed on the enclosed courtyard will indeed be one of the high points of the season. Hosting a dinner party of your own for friends in the area while away on vacation yourself is just way to cool.

  My fiance and I stayed at the "Wayfaring Mermaid Suite" and loved every second of it. The work that Joe and Monique put into the apartment is evident in every corner of the apartment, from the kitchen/living room furniture to the bathroom countertops. Joe and Monique went out of their way to make their home comfortable for us and to ensure us all of the comforts of home. It's less than a minute from the Acadia National Park main entrance and vistor center, which made it extremely easy to go in and out of the park as we needed. It was also far enough away from downtown Bar Harbor that we didn't need to worry about crowds. (only about a 5 minute quick drive) We were able to come "home" for lunch and/or dinner, and head out again and explore more. Out of three consecutive vacations to Bar Harbor, this was by far the best and the accommodations were phenomenal. I highly recommend this rental to anyone who appreciates beautiful craftsmanship and wants all the comforts of home. Thank you, Joe and Monique, for an amazing vacation.

  My family of four stayed at the Mermaid Suite for four nights this July and had a vacation to remember. There is so much to do on the island, I recommend a longer stay. The apartment is absolutely gorgeous. The craftsmanship is amazing. The bed is very comfortable. The kitchen, bathroom and laundry room will make you feel right at home. I can't say enough about the personal touches and hospitality extended by the owners. One of my wife's fondest memories was eating s’mores on the included patio while the kids presented their "show and tell" items collected while beach combing. Make sure you have a car and plan on staying longer. The Wayfaring Mermaid Suite and Mount Desert Island do not disappoint.
