This home was a great place for a family of 12 to have a retreat together. The home was as described and Marco was helpful with questions or any other infor I requested. We enjoyed sitting on front porch and listening to the stream. Lots of fun things to do such as fishing at Lemon Lake, renting a boat at Lake Valceito, playing golf and lots of shopping. Loved having our family together! The house was very large so we had plenty of space to spread out. Oh, the kids loved playing pool and games.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Beautiful home, lots of room, ,unique features. Grandkids made fishing poles out of branches and caught fish in the stream. We had a great time, only problem was water. With our large party, (14) there was not adequate water or pressure for showers, washing dishes, ect .This would be a great place to stay if the water problem was corrected. The listing photos were accurate, the property was clean.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This home was perfect for our group of 12! It has a wonderful kitchen with all the dishes and gadgets we needed to cook meals. The kids and adults alike enjoyed the pool table on the second floor and hiking in the pines and firs around the house. The listing photos are a good representation of this clean, beautiful home with unique character. We did have a small issue come up, but the owner took care of it promplty. During our stay we took the train from Durango to Silverton and enjoyed a night at the Bar D Chuckwagon Supper. Everyone in our group from the grandparents to the grandkids enjoyed the show. We also went fishing and canoing at Vallecito Lake just 10 miles or so away. We would love to stay here again and would recommend it to others looking for a vacation rental in the mountains of Durango.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We had our Christmas family reunion here and were not disappointed. This 3-story house was way bigger than the pictures showed and could have easily hosted 16. The attic alone had enough space for a family of 5. We loved all of the hardwood floors and the amazing stonework with built-in cubby holes. Marco, the owner, has really added a lot of character with his choice of antiques and even an 18th century colonial Spanish door in the front entryway. We spent many evenings enjoying the fireplace and playing pool (never realized my brother-in-law was such a pool shark). We took turns with showers and laundry and all went well with the water (no pun intended). During the day we enjoyed cross-country skiing at Vallecito Lake (free!) and downhill skiing at Wolf Creek, Durango Mountain Resort and even Hesperus. We spent a day exploring magnificent Molas Pass on backcountry skis. The house is centrally located to reach all of these places quickly. The stars were awesome at night, and we even woke up our first morning to lightly falling snow. The best part of it all was the connect time with family. The house has numerous gathering places and is well laid-out for people to have their privacy and yet still spend time together. Thanks, Marco, for facilitating a great time for all!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

If you are looking to get away from it all (but not too far away) this is the place for you. I booked this home based on its location near Vallecito and Durango as well as its capacity for at least 10 and that dogs are accepted. It is a beautiful, new, custom built home that does have a few "new home" kinks to work out, but I have faith they will be addressed promptly. They caused some minor inconvenience for our group, but nothing that interfered with our vacation (the only reason I dropped to 4 stars). It is a mountain property which means it has a well and these mountains are full of minerals (this is why they mined the area) so there is high mineral content in the well water, but the owner provides plenty of drinking water. When it got hot and busy in Durango we loved having this quiet mountain escape. The temperature was comfortable, even in the afternoons. The house is beautifully furnished, but not in a manner to deter the children playing. Everyone had his/her own bed except one couple shared the king. The cousins all shared one room with bunks plus a twin. The creek in the front provided endless entertainment for the kids and the dogs. When it rained we taught the kids to play pool. We enjoyed a daily walk in the neighborhood and met a few friendly neighbors and their sweet dogs. Breakfast and lunch on the porch were downright perfect. While us kids were playing in town for an afternoon, my father spent the whole time on the porch and enjoyed watching a golden eagle eat his lunch (a snake) on a high branch between the house and the road. There is also a huge dining table for the whole family to enjoy a meal together inside. The loft/office area was closed off for our visit, but there was still more than enough space for 6 adults, 4 kids and 2 dogs. Fishing at Vallecito lake is about a 15 minute drive and is beautiful, but Lemon Reservoir is even closer and is absolutely spectacular. If you do nothing else during your stay, go to Lemon Resevoir. Oh, and you are going to want to eat breakfast at Oscar's Cafe (just off main hwy in Durango by the grocery store). Some things to be aware of: The property is not handicap accessible. There are quite a few stairs to enter and no grab bars in baths, but both of our grandmas handled this simply by taking their time and felt the beauty of the area was worth the trade off of hiking up some challenging stairs. There is no cell reception, but phone is provided as well as wireless.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

This is a beautiful, spacious, one-of-a-kind home filled with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Everything as promised. Sleeps 12 without pulling out couches. Quiet, but yet convenient to Durango (20 minutes). My grandsons loved the creek, spent hours there. While staying here we rode train, went to Mesa Verde and Four Corners, went to Purgatory, and went horse back riding and fishing. It was a fun and memorable week with family. Only negative was water, but owner furnished plenty of filtered water.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house is very spacious but is NOT ready for renters. Lesson learned--don't be one of the first or the first renters.Decor of the house adds a lot of character and house was clean and beds comfortable. It is conveniently located close to Lemon Reservoir and Forest Service land which made for nice evening drives. Lacks good outdoor space other than porch. Many items listed as amenities were not accurate because most did not work. Game console didn't work, ice maker doesn't work, jacuzzi tub does not work, oven does not work, toaster oven didn't work but had a spare in the pantry, there is not a balcony view because he has it locked off to renters, water is very heavy in iron and sulphur so it smells up the house but owner does provide drinking water, some of electric outlets don't work. Mosquitos were really bad when we were there but I think it was just the season. Caretakers next door were very kind and helpful but our phone call to the owner wasn't returned.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1
