My partner, small dog, and I lived in this home for 17 months (beginning mid July 2011, but the "date of arrival" on this form would not let me go back that far). It was perfect. The neighborhood is spectacular. It's a true walking neighborhood, with independent boutiques and cafes just a few blocks away, some of the city's best fine dining restaurants, and even large department stores within walking distance (Macy's, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Loehmans, etc) as well as two Trader Joe's. But the block itself is quiet. The location is about halfway between downtown LA and the beach at Santa Monica, and you can get to both those places and everywhere in between without ever getting on one of the dreaded LA freeways. The furnishings are comfortable, with everything you need. The enclosed back yard has fruit trees and blooming plants. Perhaps best of all, the landlords live next door and are available at a moment's notice to deal with any problems, even changing a lightbulb. I cannot speak highly enough of this property.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My wife and I, along with our toddler, planned to spend a week in LA in July for the birth of my sister-in-law's second child. After exhaustively researching hotels and finding no availability through the week, I turned to VRBO. Out of sheer luck, we found this impeccably restored home just three blocks from my in-laws south of Trendy 3rd Street and East of La Cienega within walking distance of the Farmer's Market, the Grove, and the Beverly Center. We were able to use the house as a home base for all of our extended family in town to meet the new arrival. This is a safe, attractive, truly walkable neighborhood and we rarely had to drive anywhere. It was so special for all of us to gather for meals, visit in the large living room, and play in the beautifully landscaped yard. We would never have had this unforgettable experience staying at a hotel. The owners live next door and couldn't have been more welcoming and by the end of the trip, we felt like they were family. Though we didn't have the need to take them up on the offer, their sweet daughter is certified and available to babysit if you're traveling with children. Theirs will be the first number I call the next time I plan to be in LA for a week or more.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
