The nearest town is Balinrobe which is 8 km away offering a good selection of pubs and eateries. The picturesque village of Cong famous for the John Ford film ” The quiet man” and Ashford castle are also close by.
The area abounds with natural beauty with the mountains and lakes of Connemara less than an hour away : - Lough Mask meets lough Corrib near Cong, both havens for anglers and history buffs alike. On Inchagoill one of the 365 of lough Corrib islands, you can find the remains of two ancient churches and a burial ground. It is believed that St Patrick was banished to the island prior to the conversion of the pagan tribes.
The Castle is situated close to the village of Kilmaine; the village is on the N84 between Ballinrobe and Shrule, in County Mayo. The city of Galway is less than 20km away, with Westport and Castlebar being both less than an hours drive away.
There are a number of archaeological monuments in Kilmaine, most notably the big Raunaskerra ringfort, which was once an inauguration site for local chieftains including the Mac Williams.

Four couples from upstate New York and one from Leicestershire in England spent a week in Turin Castle, September 15th-22nd 2012. I intended to write a full glowing review, but the previous reviewers said it all. It would be hard to equal theirs. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The couple from England are of Irish heritage and are singers and musicians in the folk clubs there. Suffice it to say that we had some terrific traditional Irish songs in the Great Hall. We had a ceildh with Irish dancing and had a ball in the hall. It was just a wonderful week for all of us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our visit to Turin Castle was to celebrate 25 years of marriage, my family and friends from England were welcomed with open arms. It was truly an experience that will remain in our minds forever. Marnie and Brendan are fantastic to detail leaving a nice wlecome for my beautiful wife and I to celebrate 25 years. We especially enjoyed our evenings by the fire listening to music enjoying a game of chess and simply taking in the beauty of this trip. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity, we hope to visit the Castle somday in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: We both have a keen interest in History and a love for old buildings. Brendan and I have long been collectors of antiques and militaria. We have both travelled extensivley and have enjoyed collecting the many interesting bits and pieces you will find at Turin Castle.
Why the Owner Chose Ballinrobe:
We have always had a great fondness for the West of Ireland. We saw Turin Castle and were instantly captivated by the beauty of the area. We purchased the property in 2007 from a local man who had restored the property. The interior needed refurbishment so we set about employing the services of local trandesmen to upgrade the plumbing and electrics. There are 5 bedrooms at the castle and all the bedrooms are ensuite and heated by electric storage heaters, while both the great hall and top floor sitting rooms have wood burning stoves. We have collected many artifacts from around the world to make Turin Castle authentic but also comfortable. Mayo is truly a beautiful part of Ireland.
The Unique Benefits at this Castle:
Beautiful countryside, warm and friendly people. Ideal for fishing, site seeing and a great base for touring the West of Ireland.
