From the moment we got in and I absorbed the fantastic view from the terrace, I found myself immediately relaxing. Everyone took their time getting settled into different parts of the house, playing games, catching up, or resting. For us, the opportunity for everyone to be able to do their own thing was of paramount importance. The girls were interested in shopping and walking around town while Dad and Grandpa really wanted to hike, and a couple of others preferred to hang out at the house. The great thing about this home is that it's far enough removed from everything that we felt like we were "getting away from it all" but it's close enough to everything that it never took a tremendous coordination of efforts to do something fun. All in all, I think that this was the perfect setting for a group of people who have a large variety of interests. As a result, we all thoroughly enjoyed our vacation.Owner response: Leila, Thanks for your kind comments. We look forward to seeing you again. Best, Bill

To begin, one of the most serene views I have come across. From the top of Red Mountain you overlook all of Aspen as if it were a map. You can spy skiing, hiking, and shopping all at a glance. The home is warm, figuratively as well as literally, and holds a real sense of luxury and elegance. A very nice kitchen snuggled into the back of the great room sharing that same fabulous view. I'm all for sampling the local fare, but with amenities like these, I didn't mind staying in and watching the sunset with a glass of wine either. We were truly blessed to find this gem and will be returning again. Did I mention the view???Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Josh, So glad you enjoyed your stay. I know, it's too bad we don't have any views to give you the mountain experience- just kidding. Bill

My friends and I enjoyed this incredible home for a ski trip in late March. The panoramic views from the living room were spectacular and provided a great space for entertaining. The two master bedrooms at each side of the house was also a great feature providing plenty of space for everone. The owners, the Johnson's, were a pleasure to deal with and we will return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children.

Love, love, love this house, it's the perfect Aspen getaway: you have your privacy, plenty of open space, plenty of nature, and Aspen is only 5min away! The view overlooking the valley through the huge windows is breathtaking, you have to see it to believe it! The dining table was perfect for our business planning meetings, and the house suited perfectly our hosting a few small events and inviting people over, it also gives a great first impression ("wow" factor). My favourite room of the house is without doubt the cozy media room: stone-wall fireplace, huge TV screen, you literally sink into the carpet. Thank you Bill for a wonderful stay! Can't wait to come back next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The first words out my mouth was, "Wow!" The view is truly awe-inspiring. Spacious living-room that gives you a panoramic view of the Aspen mountains. The bedrooms are all comfortable, nicely furnished and makes you feel right at home. The areas surrounding are perfect for hiking. It's fairly close to town / ski-lift. Bill was very accommodating, and it's a great place to have friends over for a BBQ or evening party. Definitely recommend this as great place to stay for your vacation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

When our three wives came up with the idea of a couples romantic retreat in Aspen for Valentines week, I admit to being less than thrilled. When my wife suggested going back to the Johnson's home for it, I warmed to the idea. Our previous stay had been a terrific experience and this one may have even surpassed it. Skiing was great, a catered candlelit dinner in the stunning dining room overlooking the lights of Aspen was a highlight and sharing this amazing house with old friends made it even more special. Casual breakfasts "at home" catching up on kids and work and the previous day's skiing are memorable -- for much less than the cost of a luxury hotel, we had five star accomodations and much more opportunity for authentic connection. We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Robert, So great to have you back again and so very pleased you enjoyed your stay so much. We look forward to your next visit. Best, Bill and Deb

Loved my stay at the property. The view of the valley is absolutely stunning and the house is very open with lots of space, and also a few cozy sitting areas to give you a very homey feel. The location is very nice and private but also only a few minutes drive from town giving the best of both worlds. We often see deer right outside the house. staying here made our time in aspen wonderful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I and our 5 children ages 5-18 met my husbands brother, wife and 2 children at red mountain for a wonderful after christmas ski trip. Bills home is like a spaceship in the sky. I much enjoyed sitting in the living room basking in the sun as it streemed in the massive windows. Also the steam shower was AWESOME after a cold day on the mountain. Our boys had there own room downstairs and the masters are on either end of the house for the adults privacy. The girls enjoyed being together upstairs in the bedroom and adjacent room with murphy bed. The teenagers stayed up half the night watching TV by the fireplace and we were sawing logs upstairs unaware. The house is conveniently located to the quaint town of Aspen were we enjoyed Texas Barbq and shopping. We were only a short drive to Snowmass and even closer to Aspen, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. Bill was very helpful before and during our stay at his home. Thanks Bill for sharing your beautiful home with us. Owner response: Stacy, Deb and I are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your taking such good care of the home as well. I certainly enjoyed getting to know you even if only by phone, and hope you'll visit us again when you next vacation in Aspen. All the best, Bill

Just a short note to thank you for your support of our lovely Fall retreat in Aspen! The home was perfect in every way – enough separation when we wanted quiet time to read or just relax and of course, that spectacular great room when we wanted to come together. I don’t know of a more beautiful, even inspiring view of town, the mountains and all those beautiful trees. Your recommendations for dining out, the hiking suggestions and how to get the most out of our stay were especially appreciated. Our walk along the Rio Grande Trail was a highlight: we learned the Roaring Fork River is named appropriately (it roars!) and spending some quiet time exploring the John Denver Sanctuary and Memorial was surprisingly enjoyable. What a treat! We’ll return soon. Owner response: We're really excited you loved your visit. Many people don't realize what a wonderful season the fall is. The town is more like the old Aspen, not as bustling as in the high seasons, yet always lots to do Look forward to seeing you again. Bill and Deb

Owner info
About the owner: Bill & Deb, former corporate exec's, we spend our leisure time hiking, RV'ing, boating on Lake Powell, playing with our Golden Retriever. We also have a skin care website (www.bestskincareproductstoday.com) and a consulting practice: (www.strategicredirections.com
Why the Owner Chose Red Mountain:
Many people find Aspen for the skiing, but they stay for the summers, activities, events amd people! We did too. We chose Red Mountain Ranch high on Red Mountain because it has it all: panoramic views, privacy, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and ski touring at our doorstep, and yet we're just a few minutes to town for dining, cultural activities, entertainment, or the ski slopes.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Even for Red Mountain Ranch, our home and property are unique. Near the top of Red Mountain Ranch, the unusually long 360 feet of view frontage allows the house design to maximize the number of rooms and window space facing wrap around views. Rooms are bright and open, many with windows on 3 sides. Unlike many Red Mountain homes perched over a steep slope, our property stretches along a long natural bench, giving us garden and terrace space in front of our home. Coupled with the long frontage, it allows a fenced-in yard at one end of the house and a pretty grove of flowers, tall grass, and trees at the other.
The huge Great Room,4 separate outdoor seating areas, plus separate media, den, and breakfast areas, allow a large family or group to enjoy their different activities when they want it, yet come together to socialize with plenty of room for all. The large, comfortably furnished bedrooms facilitate separate quiet time when desired.
In the winter, hit the slopes a few minutes away in town. Summer or winter, explore the trails and dirt roads radiating into the mountains from the Hunter Creek Valley just behind Red Mountain Ranch. Enjoy the lovely valley itself along the river, perhaps pausing to step into the last intact structure of an old mining camp, or go up the many routes along both sides of the valley. Then a 5 minute drive to town for for a difficult choice between a myriad of restaurants, shopping, cultural, or entertainment. Or pass a relaxing afternoon on the terrace savoring the incredible views. Once home, a steam shower looking at the Maroon Bells. In the evening, enjoy your family or have friends over for drinks or dinner and enjoy the spectacular sunset over the mountains. Or just relax in the media room with a movie on the 73” HDTV. Or even better, do it all - there's plenty of room and space for everyone to do their own thing. With us you have it all.
