The home owner was very commutative and wonderful to work with. The house was very large and worked well for our group. Paia was very pleasant and a fun little town. We were told to be quiet after 10 however the neighbors told us to be quiet before 9pm - We where just sitting on the back porch talking and laughing on our first night. The location was good if you are touring all over the island. It is very centrally located however if you want to hang out on the west coast most of the time you should book closer. We loved the location for what we wanted to do.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words, I am happy to welcome you again at any time! Aloha

We stayed on Maui for 1 week here. Paia is a great little town with alot of character compared to some of the other tourist traps on the island. This property is quite rustic and dispite upgrading the appliances, and flooring? it is still rough around the edges and in need of some love. With the right reno's this could be an attractive home....Back yard is in shambles, although the Lanai always catches a nice breeze and is good for morning coffee's, also the avocado tree can save you some money(get em before the ants do). Also the owners pictures could be updated to properly reflect what the livingroom looks like. The couch is not a couch at all but a futon in the upright position... sweet extra bed but I like to come home and relax into a couch not a folded over futon. The kitchen was lacking in some key tools.... a couple important ones were a strainer and a cheese grater. For some reason the last tenants had broken the seal on the dishwasher and the owner didn't notice and fix it before our arrival? No phone either and the tv remote had no batteries. Like I said in the title though it is very affordable and an easy stroll to Paia town (nice not to have to worry about parking in this 1 and 1/2 street town). If you like to surf its a 5 minute drive to Hookipa Beach and a 10 minute walk to paia bay. If the place is cleaned up a bit it has some potential...I probably would stay here again and give it an avg mark because I have to be honest about some of the problems which I hope the owner will resolve.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. I will look into the things you mentioned and take them in consideration. Unfortunately many people leave without reporting broken things... as explained the low price compared to other similar size and location properties is due to the "rustic" state you mention...saving $$ to upgrade, but probably then charging more... Warm Alohas and safe travels :-)

We had a great stay in Paia and I would recommend this beyond doubt if you want to stay in a quiet residential area within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Paia. The price is good and reflective of the house. We had a couple of issues which the owners addressed. My main recommendation is that you make sure you have a local contact number before going out as we could not find the car at the airport and there was no-one to get hold of by phone. As another reviewer pointed out there is another rental house on the plot and the housekeeper lives in a self contained property on the back of the main house - none of these factors were an issue but the garden is not for your sole use. Whilst we were there the garden had been neglected and so was not really a space to be out in - however this was going to be sorted out. The house is well stocked and very spacious and airy. The photos on the site could be updated - I don't recognise a couple of the rooms from the photos ...? I would stay here again based on the price, space in the house and location - thanks very much.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great stay in this little Paia neighbourhood. The house is literally around the corner from shops, Mana Foods, restaurants etc. and a 10 minute walk to Paia Bay Beach. Add another 10 minutes and you're at Baldwin Beach. Head the opposite direction and it's a 10 minute drive to Makawao, and there are a lot of parks on the way (we have a toddler, so we stopped at a lot of parks). Super location. The house was spacious and had what we needed, though simple and rustic--tons of breeze blowing through so temp was very comfortable. Property was clean inside, although the yard was in the middle of being worked on by owners--when the yard is done, it will be fantastic. Owners were SUPER helpful, and went above and beyond on all counts. The car was included in the deal, and although its an old beater, got us around without any problems at all and easily fit four adults, and a toddler in car seat, plus all our stuff. All in all, UNBELIEVABLE value for the $$$$. I would absolutely recommend to friends or family. One thing to know however: there are other people that do live in other suites on the property, so you are not getting a whole house to yourselves. The suites are separate, but be prepared to hear and see other families when you are on the back lanai etc. This didn't matter in our case, as everyone was so friendly, and respected the noise bylaws, but I was surprised at first when we found out how many people lived there. I hope that we will be back someday. Thanks again for such a fantastic stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The place is spacious, plenty of room for the four of us and would be just as comfortable for six. I wouldn't call it luxurious but it is comfortable and clean and has a coffee maker, microwave, plenty of towels (including beach towels), washer, drier, - actually I can't think of anything it was lacking. The owner was very helpful, answered all our questioned, even providing a list of local shops and restaurants. There are several great places to eat in Paia and you can walk to them from the house. After a day of driving around sightseeing it was really nice not having to get back in the car to go to dinner. In short, I loved Maui, Paia, the house and its location. I would recommend this place to my friends and if I can make back there I won't even consider staying anywhere else.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had an awesome time here and will dfinitely come back. The house has plenty of space and even on rainy days we enjoyed hanging out in the big living/kitchen area and the covered deck - in Hawaii they call it lanai.. anything we needed or aksed for was provided, even a starter kit with laundry detergent, paper towels, dishwasher stuff and island maps. washer/dryer real convenient and Helen was super helpful with any questions we had about hikes, surf rental or windsurf and kite lessons. For sure will and already have recommended!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

it lies at my heart to talk about my Maui-days. first of all: thanks to the managers! for your help in a few situations, for your support to rent a good car and last but not least for your great ideas what to do at Maui. accomodation: in a word - it´s a pearl. a great location - calm, surrounded by nature, hey, you have your own mango-tree there! all the daily stuff is easy to achieve by walking: supermarket, Paia and its beautiful center with lots of nice restaurants and shops. also a good point to start daily trips to the vulanco or sounth-coast etc. perfect equipped: it is clean everywhere! very modern open kitchen and all kitchen-stuff, very beautiful bathroom, all rooms very comfortable with spacious cabinets and big beds. all rooms have windows! a very lounging living-room. we spent lots of time there and on the very charming big terrace. I can and I want definitely recommend this place! it would make your stay unbelievable - wether you come with your family or with friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad I was able to help making your Maui time a great experience. Hope you come back soon :-) Aloha

I rented the house for the entire month of January 2011. I read the negative review on this site and beg to differ on nearly every point. Sure, it is an old house and the vehicle has seen better days, but you have to look at what really matters here: the hosts, the price and the location. In my case, the hosts were beyond reproach: they were accommodating, available and always willing to help as best as they could. I initially inquired about the house and they offered to “throw in the car” for essentially the same price. When I told my friends how much I had paid for the month for the house and the car, they could not believe how cheap it was! There was an issue with the vehicle one day, and one of the owners brought me her own car and took the rental to get it fixed. How's that for service? On a different occasion, the lower part of town got flooded after a torrential downpour and the city had to temporarily cut off the water mains, which led to an issue with the water pump at the house. When I heard the racket it created, I kind of panicked and called the hosts: someone showed up within the hour and fixed the problem. I could relate a dozen other things like this which clearly demonstrate that the hosts truly care about ensuring a pleasant stay for their guests, but I don't want to make this review too long so I'll stop here. Another fact that is significant is the location of the house: it is in a central residential neighbourhood, which makes it not only possible but easy walk to town. During the day, the place can be a little “lively” as there are a lot of families with kids who live on the street. People are very respectful though and at night you can't hear a thing; I slept like a baby in spite of being a light sleeper. Actually, I liked the place so much that I don't want to be too positive here since I know I will be returning someday soon and don't want to have to book the place a year ahead. The only thing that could be better is the cleanliness of the house itself, and I advised the owners that their cleaning lady (or man?) was not doing a good enough job. Upon arriving, I “re-cleaned” the place myself so it was up to my extremely high standards of cleanliness. I saw a few insects (especially ants) and the odd gecko inside the house during my stay, but you are in a tropical climate and as such should expect these things and accept them as part of life. This is a house, not a hotel, and as long as you keep this in mind you should enjoy yourself.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Marc, thank you so much for this awesome review. Always very happy to welcome you again and make sure your stay is most pleasant!
