Olive Acre is a modern, open designed home with a large outdoor terrace and tiled pool. Located in the heart of Provence, the location is exactly what you would expect of this lovely region – great food, superb wine and relaxed living. The villa is next to the small village of St. Hippolyte, which is halfway between Beaumes-de-Venise and Caromb and only 30 minutes from the Avignon TGV station. The view is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Dentelles, Mount Ventoux and the Luberon mountains providing the perfect backdrop for outdoor dining and relaxing at your leisure. The name “Olive Acre” is due to the villa sitting in the middle of over an acre of 140 mature olive trees with wine vineyards on all sides. The property is set in a well tended garden of fragrant lavender, oleander, and roses with many nut and fruit trees. The totally private grounds, which you enter through an automatic-controlled gate and a stoned paved driveway, are surrounded on all sides by stone walls or fence and are open to the magnificent mountain views. The grounds can be lit with outdoor lighting and the garden is watered through an automatic watering system.
The entire house, pool, terrace, and gardens are oriented toward the views. From both the main terrace and upstairs balcony, you can see in all directions. There are vineyards, olive trees, lavender, and working farms. This is one of the most highly sought after location in Provence - lovely villages in the Luberon region to the south, lavender fields to the east, the popular towns of Avignon and Orange to the west, and Mont Ventoux to the north . You are surrounded by great restaurants (Michelin starred), the best outdoor markets (choose a different one each day), antiquing and cooking schools.
Built on two levels with a below ground wine cave, the villa opens onto the terrace and pool through French doors that line the entire front of the house. Almost all of the rooms face the outstanding views. The house is spacious and bright with white-washed walls, terra cotta floors, and recessed lighting throughout. All of the furnishings are comfortable and meant to be enjoyed by the people who are on holiday. Many of the pieces are either antique or have a distinct French charm. There is a generous supply of all the things you will need for the eat-in kitchen or bedrooms. The kitchen opens onto the dining terrace, which overlooks the pool and view. There is a beautiful, large, stone table and eight comfortable arm chairs set under a covered terrace. In addition, there is a shady round table set near a large flowering oleander with wicker chairs to enjoy some serious reading when not lazing by the pool.
The heated and lighted pool is tiled and set in an exceptionally large terrace that looks over mountain ranges on all sides. There are plenty of loungers (twelve), garden chairs, tables, etc., as well as both sunny and shaded areas to lounge and read around the pool. Beside the pool is a covered terrace with a large brick barbeque and a totally enclosed tiled outdoor shower.
The interior has a large, lovely living room/dining room with a raised fireplace. These rooms open out to the covered terrace and pool through four sets of French doors. There are many pieces of antique furniture interspersed with the contemporary French fabric sofas. The living room is partially divided into a more formal sitting area in front of a wood burning fireplace and a more relaxed area with large sofas. In the relaxed area of the living room, there is a large screen TV with DVD player so the kids can enjoy some downtime while the parents engage in conversation. There is also wireless internet and free telephone service to almost anywhere in the world.
The five bedrooms are fresh and sunny, with excellent beds and reading lamps. They all have crisp, fresh linens and towels and large closets. All of the upstair bedrooms have individually controlled air conditioning units. One bedroom with king bed is on the main floor with a full sized tile bath and shower next door. This bedroom has great privacy from the rest of the upper floor bedrooms. The other four bedrooms are on the second floor and all have very good privacy from one another (suitable for four couples or two or more families). There are three king-bed rooms and one with two twin beds. The tile bath is large, modern, and has both a shower and huge tub. In addition to the full size bath, there is also a half bath on the second floor. All of the upstairs bedrooms open onto a terra cotta tiled outdoor terrace with stunning views along with outside table and chairs - perfect for the morning coffee.
The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped and has a large selection of dishes, pans and utensils for all kinds of chefs. The kitchen has Miele cook-top stove, oven and refrigerator. The kitchen is lined with traditional Provencal wood cabinets and marble tops. The kitchen opens onto the outdoor terrace through a large set of French doors or into the dining/living room through another set of French doors. Next to the kitchen is a wonderfully large utility room (or as our friends call it the dump room.) The utility room has another large refrigerator for storing goods from your market runs as well as a washing machine. It has a large floor terra cotta tiled floor space where you can store your luggage and other belongings. An outdoor doorway brings you to the back garden that has a table and chairs and is enclosed by large wrap around hedge.
We have a fantastic team of wonderful people who keep everything very well maintained. Our house manager, who lives nearby and is fluent in English, is the one to call should you need anything. Our gardener makes sure everything is looking great.
