Our week at the house was great. Dock was nice. Fishing was excellent. Everything worked and house was clean. Only disappointment was the inability to go to and from the two levels of the house inside. Had to go outside to get to the two levels. Also didn't like the steep driveway, was difficult to back out of the driveway.

Great Vacation Spot
Great Vacation Spot
Wonderful vacation spot, house was clean and comfortable, lake is beautiful. The open concept main floor was really nice for when all were gathered inside, made it easy for chatting and inside activities. That being said we didn't spend much time inside because the property and lake were both so inviting that we wanted to be outside as much as possible. Deck was perfect morning coffee spot for the early riser in our group, enjoy watching the lake wake up while reading and taking in the quiet. We did not do any boating but will next trip. Dock is plenty large enough to accommodate boat, and still have room to use for swimming. Wished there was a swim ladder on the dock, but with the sand beach area no problem to just walk out of the lake. The lower level is only accessible from the outside patio which I didn't quite understand from the description, but wasn't any negative for us. In fact will be a plus for us on future visits. The owners were great to work with, we had a last minute addition of family dog to our group and they were very accommodating. The were pleasant, helpful and easy to contact when we had a question after arrival. We did take the trip to Garden of the Gods. A bit of a drive, but well worth it! Breathtaking views, interesting rock formations and nice trail. Not too difficult for those that don't hike much and not boring for the more seasoned hiker. Overall just a wonder experience, loved the lake, water was warm and clean. Swam every day, the kids even swam our last morning, just hated to leave. Looks to be good fishing as well as boating lake. Plenty of fishermen out on the lake mornings and afternoons. The house was just as described and very comfortable. We will definitely be back. We have rented lake houses in several states and comment was made this trip that so far this was the best place we have been. Looking forward to coming back next summer.

July/2013 Family Vacation
July/2013 Family Vacation
My family - including my husband, daughter, son-in-law, my mother-in-law and 3 grandchildren visited in July. The lake and dock were excellent. We enjoyed swimming and fishing all week. The house was good but the appliances including the grill were not in great working condition. We purchased a week of meat for cookouts and were not able to use the grill. The washing machine kept stopping and we would have to restart it. The driveway is pretty steep and I was glad we did not have a trailer to contend with. Again - we have visited many lakes in the WI, MI and IL area and this was in the top ten of small lakes.

Owner response: I'm so glad that your family had a nice stay and enjoyed the lake! I wish I would have known about any issues you were having with operating the washer and grill. As I state in my correspondences, I'm always available to call, text, or email 24/7. I need to know if something is wrong so that I may fix it, plus I'd rather have a call so that I can make your stay more comfortable. Things always come up in a house- it's unavoidable, especially with the summer crowds, but I do my best to rectify any situations that arise. We hope to see you back on your next vacation to Lake of Egypt.
It is our second time staying at this house and we have no regrets. The homeowner was easy to work with and the house is perfect. The house easily accommodated my parents (stayed on the first floor), my family (stayed on second floor) and my brother's family (stayed on second floor). My parents loved having their own space and we loved having ours. We were ecstatic to find out the homeowners had a new dock. The new dock is awesome. It shades the boat perfectly and there is enough room on the dock for table and chairs if you wanted. My son caught his first largemouth bass off the dock. It was about 4.5 lbs. He smiled ear to ear for days. It’s been two weeks and my son wakes up every day begging to go back. That’s music to our ears. Final thoughts, this place is awesome, and if they ever want to sell, my family would buy it in a heartbeat. The house is great. The location is great. The homeowners are great too. Just can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s our home away from home.

This was our 2nd vacation at this home and we enjoyed our stay both times very much. The house is clean and has just about everything you could need to feel right at home. The house is big enough to hold a large family and feel very comfortable. The owner is very nice and even though we haven't personally met feel as though we have. All information she provided as far as directions, photos, shopping etc.were very accurate and helpful. The boat launch is very nice and close to the house. We are looking forward to the new boat dock that is to be installed this spring. Our recent vacation included bringing our dog and he enjoyed it also. The house is pet friendly and doesn't have a pet odor. My mother who vacations with us has disabilities with her legs and knees and is only able to stay on the main floor of the house because of the stairs but is still able to enjoys the beautiful views through out the house and on the main deck. There is no walk in shower on the main level for someone with these type of disabilities but it wasn't a problem for us. The house has beautiful views of the lake and the bass fishing was great while we were there. My little 4 yr old great niece loved all the little blue gill we fed and caught right off the dock also but building sandcastles is what she enjoyed the most. All we can say is Thank You for opening your home to families like ours and we just wish we could say it was our lake home. We are looking forward to another stay hopefully in the near future and would very much recommend this vacation home.

When you can put 6 grown men together for a week away from home and no one has any complaints you know you have rented a nice home. I would highly recommend this house. Hope to be renting it again in the fall. Cynthia is very nice to deal with.

Perfect house on the lake!
Perfect house on the lake!
We stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday while visiting some relatvies. The house was perfect. It was clean and prepared for us. The owner was great to work with and very responsive to all my questions. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and make meals. The bottom level was great as a separate area for my brother and his wife. The view of the lake is so pretty and the swim area looks like it would be a lot of fun. We all thought it would be perfect for a summer get away as well.

Very Nice Vacation Home
Very Nice Vacation Home
The home is very nice, perfect for a large family and in-laws. It’s really two homes in that the downstairs has total privacy with a washroom, shower, kitchenette and TV. The home is as inviting as the Lake itself. Plenty of room, very clean and well equipped. Beach items and toys galore. The beach area in front of the home was fun for the kids, even had an umbrella for shade. The lake was warm and mild. The water drops off fairly quickly of the dock so may want floatation devices for novice swimmers. Nice view of lake from back yard. If coming from Chicago, it’s worth the little extra drive down if staying more than a few days. The comparable value is much better than Wisconsin or Michigan. Beautiful, large lake that most people are unaware of. We were there in middle of July and the Lake was not at congested. Boating and tubing were safe for families. The home is about 5 minutes off of Interstate 57. If coming from North, Stop by the Wal-Mart in Marion right off the Interstate on the way down to stock up and save a trip. We really liked the Lake of Egypt marina. The 2-day pontoon boat rental and price of fuel was less than the other marina. In addition they rented wave runners and a speed boat fully equipped for tubing. The staff patiently showed us how to use the rentals. The home is right off the main body of water that allows tubing and wave runners so you can quickly stop by the dock, switch people and return to the Lake. 3 hrs should allow plenty of time for these rentals. We took the scenic drive to Metropolis one day and garden of the Gods at Shawnee National Forest. There is horseback riding in the area at a fair price but it was a little too hot the day we went. We would definitely return.

Owner response: I agree that Lake of Egypt is definitely worth the ride from Chicago, and Southern Illinois' best kept secret! I'm so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay and that you were happy with the house and the amenities. I know how important family vacations are, and try to think of everything our guests may need there to enjoy. Hope to see you again on your next vacation!

The house was perfect for our group of 8 adults. The price for our stay was very reasonable. We had a great time fishing on beautiful Lake Egypt can't say enough about the lake very clean. The beds and pillows were above average. Accurate description, great photos, would recommend this property. We ate at Mack's Marina (No Wake Lounge) went by boat. Also ate at 17th Street Bar & Grill, and the Hideout Steak House all very good and would recommend. We had a GREAT time. We just wish the property/lake was closer.

Why the Owner Chose Marion:
We are from the Chicagoland area, and I have been traveling to Lake of Egypt since I was a little girl. This home was in my family, and I took over 8 years ago. It is a special part of my memories as a child, and now that I have children of my own, it is special for them, too. I've been to lakes in Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and nothing compares to Lake of Egypt. We love it and we love Southern IL. We would like to open our home to other families and friends so that they can also create fond memories of their own at Lake of Egypt!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Cyndi's favorite spot- Drinking my morning coffee on the deck overlooking the peaceful, still lake and watching the Great Blue Heron perched on my dock. Tom's favorite spot- In his fishing boat searching for those Largemouth Bass in Sugar Creek. The Kids' Favorite spot- On the private beach playing in the sand, catching minnows with nets, and swimming.
