this was everything you could ask for what you se in the pictures is correct , great location. Home was pretty clean, the only thing that maybe we would change was the plug in air freshners as soon as you opened the front door it was VERY strong which worried us at first as if she was trying to cover something up . We felt at home in this cozy cottage. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook any meal. Clean up was great also as supplies were there also. Water pressure was low so it took a while to do laundry. I would recomend this cottage and we would come back. Thanks Karen for opening your home to us.Did you find this review helpful? We spent 3 blissful weeks at Karen's immaculate, comfy cottage nestled in the woods. The property is close to everything, but quiet, peaceful and private. It is a perfect "base camp" for exploring all Acadia has to offer. The kitchen is especially well-equipped, and the large, flat screen TV is awesome!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay at my cottage. I feel it is very important for future renters to know if your stay was an enjoyable one and a good experience. It helps so much for future renters to make a decision where to go. My goal is to make everyone as happy and comfortable while you are here. Thank you for taking the time to write me a review. Maybe I will see you again sometime,Karen

A perfect place to stay. Everything is as told. A quiet and peaceful location. Bar Harbour is only a 5 min. drive. Karen the owner was very helpful and provided us with everything we asked for. We certainly will recommend this place to our friend vacationing in the area. We really enjoyed our stay and will come back some other time. Because it is pet friendly, it would be a good idea to give the carpet in the living room and the bedrooms, a good shampoo once in the while. The smell left by previous people's dog stay over some furniture. Suzelle and Jean-Claude from Montreal, Canada.Owner response: Thank You for visiting Bar Harbor and staying at my Acadia Seaside Cottage. I'm so happy to know that you enjoyed the cottage and might return someday! Thank You for your imput on dogs and the rugs. As the owner, and a dog lover myself, I try to strike the balance between allowing beloved pets, but also making certain that there is no "trace" of a dog left behind, for the next guests I will certainly be extra conscientous in the future. Enjoy your summer!

I just returned from a stay on Mount Dessert Island and Karen's Cottage. I don't normally write reviews, but felt it was important this time. The house is pretty much as described, but with a few important differences that I wanted to note. 1. The porch is actually off the FRONT of the house - not a huge deal as there is minimal traffic on this tiny street, but it is not private or secluded at all. I thought it would be in the BACK of the house. 2. Karen actually lives in a small house directly behind this cottage so she is pretty much ON the property while you are staying there. I found this a bit odd and had the feeling of being in a fishbowl. You can see Karen on her porch if you are sitting out on the cottage porch. You can hear her talking in the mornings and she even stopped by on multiple occasions - once due to an Internet issue and once to remove pillows from the patio when it started raining. So, you should be aware of this going in as it is not as described. 3. The water that is "400 feet away" is actually around the corner and down a bit. There was not a water view and if you don't actually go to it - which is a 5 minute walk from the house - it is not even apparent that the water is nearby. Overall - I had a lovely stay in Mount Dessert Island, but thought it was important to note a few discrepancies for future renters.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Dear Aaron, Thank You for taking the time to submit your thoughts on the Acadia Seaside Cottage. A renter's feedback is vitally important to ensure I provide my guests with excellent accommodations. I will take this opportunity to sincerely apologize if your stay was less than perfect and to respond to your concerns about "descrepencies" in my ad. 1. The photos on this page clearly shoe that the deck is located on the FRONT of the cottage. The deck is enclosed with greenery and a fence to provide ultimate privacy, in addition to the very secluded and quiet street. 2. Occasionally, as owner of the property, it becomes necessary for me to "stop by". This was the case with the technical internet problem. Because I live close by, I thought it would be hospitable to remove your deck cushions when it rained, to save you the chore, and to keep them dry for you. Regretfully, I overstepped my bounds. Lesson Learned. Thank You. 3. The entrance to the cottage is in fact 400 feet from the shore, a straight shot and 3-5 minute walk , with shore access. You can see the water from the mailbox. The ad does not state "waterview". Thank You again for your review and I hope you will visit beautiful Mount Desert Island again. I hope your vacation provided you with many happy memories. Did a lot of research on the internet and so glad we chose Karen's Cottage. Karen herself was extremely helpful to three seniors and made sure we were comfortable in her cozy cottage - location was quiet, peaceful and good for walking in beautiful surroundings -near to the Acadia National Park where we enjoyed driving and attending free ranger-led activities. Also appreciated a local recommendation and drove to nearby Bass Harbor for a great meal on the outside deck of the Ketch -and ate lobster at several other nearby places including the Chart Room. Even on cool rainy days we really felt at homeOwner response: Hello Martin, Thanks for writing me a review. It really helps people know what other people think about the cottage. I was more than happy to help you out. I want to take good care of my renters and make you happy . You take great care of my cottage and thank you for leaving it so clean. I hope to see you all again sometime. Thank you, Karen

My husband and I had a wonderful week at Karen's cottage. Despite cooler than normal temps and several rainy days, we were warm and cozy in the cottage. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet. Since it is so close to Acadia, the ocean and Bar Harbor, we could take a break from our activities without any hassle at all. I had a wonderful time cooking in the kitchen, too! Karen has everything a cook needs in her wonderfully stocked kitchen.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our second stay at Karen's cottage. It was very relaxing knowing that we had such a wonderful location to call home for the week. The quiet neighborhood is very welcoming, some of the neighbors remembered us from last year. The information provided online is accurate. The amenities are very helpful, linens, towels, spices, hand & dish soap, etc. Karen also provides literature for area activities/dining and board games. We plan to return to Karen's cottage in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family (2 adults, 9 yr old, & 5 yr old) just had our first trip to Acadia. We stayed at Karen's Cottage. This home is situated in a very quiet neighborhood just a few minutes from Acadia Visitor Center and downtown Bar Harbor. The home was just right for our vacation - all the amenities of home yet not out of our budget. You can't beat having space in the evening to unwind, kitchen to cook meals, washer & dryer, etc. This was SOO much better than being in one hotel room. We especially loved having the water just a 2 minute walk from the house. We were able to enjoy searching for sea glass, interesting shells, etc. during our "down" times. Best way to reach the shore is a path that goes down the slope right in front of a small tank on the road. Karen's yard was beautiful with the flowers! There is even enough grass area to throw a baseball or frisbee. The porch was spacious! Her home was very clean and well stocked with necessities such as linens, blankets, towels, soap, etc. We loved the comfortable coach and recliners. I feel asleep on the coach one evening and didn't wake-up until early morning. We think the best way to describe Karen's Cottage is like staying at your Grandma's house - very comfortable & welcoming!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am so happy that the cottage seems like home to my renters. I do try to make as comfortable as I can. Comfy chairs in the living and coach. Nice large deck furniture with nice furniture. Come and stay . I bet you'll be back. Thanks, Karen

What a great cottage! Super location, so close to Bar Harbor but in on a quiet, private road. Very clean and really beats any motel stay we had in Bar Harbor. The ocean is so close, we could almost throw a rock into the water. Wonderful price for all that you get out of this rental. We won't go back to motels ever and would stay again in a heart beat! Clean, clean, clean with beautiful gardens.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed staying at Karen's cottage near the sea! The description provided on Home Away was complete. The property was well maintained and clean. I would recommend this property to a friend and I plan to stay there again myself. It was our first rental of a home instead of staying at a hotel and we were very pleased with the property as was our black lab!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have been coming to Acadia Seaside Cottage for several years now. It is extremely comfortable and very convenient (just a few minutes drive!) to both the town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, yet the location is peaceful and quiet. The cottage has a large, private deck where we routinely have our morning coffee while planning our day and often watch the stars at night (truly incredible!). The living room, bathe in small rainbows from a number of sun catchers, is great for relaxing after a long hike -- two lounge chairs to rest your feet and a large soft couch. For days when we would rather eat in, the kitchen is large, inviting and well-equipped. Our dogs, who have always been welcome here, love the short walk down to Frenchman's Bay -- a must every day! Thank you, Karen, for providing us with such a wonderful home away from home!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our first trip to Maine. We do all our of research on the internet, and Karen's Cottage was very true to the description on the website. It is in a very convenient location with easy access to all of the sites we wanted to see. Yet, it is in a peaceful, beautiful and relaxing setting. The cottage is very clean, and it was well-stocked with paper products, dish & laundry detergent, etc. Even those small things mean a lot when you are on vacation! I hope we get to come back, and we would certainly stay in Karen's Cottage again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed my cottage. It is very well equiped with everything you could possably need and it is a very cozy cottage. You are only 400 ft. from the shore so you can go searching for sea glass or sea shells or have a picnic. When the tide is coming in over the hot rocks the water is warm enough to go swimming. You are close to Bar Harbor, only 4 miles and just 1 1/2 miles to Acadia National Pk. The cottage has a 12 x 30 ft. deck with very comfortable deck furniture.

Acadia Seaside Cottage is located in a quiet wooded are 4 miles from the village of Bar Harbor and only 1 1/2 miles to Acadia National Pk. and the Atlantic ocean is 400 ft. down the road. Stayed 7/7 - 7/14/08: What a great place to stay when visiting Mt Desert Island & Bar Harbor area. This cottage is in close proximity to the national park for hiking, wildlife viewing and scenic drives. It's close to Bar Harbor and within day trips of all the other harbor villages on the island. The cottage had everything one would need...a home away from home. If we were to come to this area again, it would be our first choice for a vacation rental.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am so happy you enjoyed your stay at my cottage. It is a great place to stay because it is close to everything but you have peace and quiet in a beautiful wooded area and only 400 ft. from the Atlantic ocean. Thank you, Karen

We have stayed at Karen's cottage for the past 3 years and plan to return Sept 08. It is very quiet and restful. The cottage is nicely furnished and really makes you feel at home. Our son in law enjoys the kitchen-he is a chef and Karen has more utensils than he has at home. We are in our 70's and our daughter and son in law are in their 50's and we travel together and all enjoy the cottage. My husband enjoys the walk to the water and with our daughter likes to loook for sea glass. We all enjoy touring and finding different restaurants and antique shops etc.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you very much for writing a review about my cottage. It makes me happy that you feel so comfortable in my cottage that you are coming back again for your 4th year in a row and hopefully many more returns in the future. I try to make it as warm and cozy as I can so you have all the comforts of home. And I really appreciate how you take such good care my cottage. See you soon! Thanks again

This is absolutely the most comfortable, relaxing place to stay. The kitchen is especially nice and VERY well equipped. Very comfortable beds, recliners, nice new appliances, etc. Would love to spend an entire month in this wonderful cottage! Well worth the money to stay here.Owner response: I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay at my cottage. Please come back soon. Thank you, Karen

My husband and I stayed at this cottage for our honeymoon in May 2007. The weather was a bit less than ideal (I didn't consider the rain in Maine at that time!), but the cottage was amazing, romantic, and cozy. My husband and I enjoyed immensely spending time here. It is very close to downtown bar harbor, and we went there several times each day. The renter is very sweet and helpful, and she has brochures in the home letting you know the endless possibilities of fun to have in bar harbor. My husband and I hope to return next year, although probably in July or August! I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 18/22
