Seward bed and breakfast description

A short walk from Bear Ridge Bed and Breakfast offers recreational activities such as hiking the jeep trail up Mt. Marathon, walking along the Bay, catching a tour boat to the glaciers, riding the Seward Trolley, or chartering a salmon or halibut boat for a fishing trip.

After a busy day when you return to our home, you can grill your fresh fish on our deck with a view of Mt. Alice or freeze the catch of the day to take back home with you to share with family and friends. If ending the day with a bit of a sweet sounds enticing, then roast marshmallows for smores over a campfire in the back yard. Don’t want to work that hard? Then fresh home-made cookies with a glass of milk or coffee before bedtime might be more to your liking.

With its location in Seward, Bear Ridge Bed and Breakfast offers easy access to Alaska's entire Kenai Peninsula. It's easy to see why Seward is Number 3 in Top Ten U.S. Destinations for 2008.

Only about sixty minutes from Seward, the Russian River draws thousands of people each summer to either float down its current or fish along its banks. It is not unusual to spy a bear or a moose as it comes to the waters for a drink or a bit of its own fishing. Relax along the river as the eagles soar over head.

Every 4th of July people flock to Seward to either watch or take part in the famous Mt. Marathon run. The community closes down its main streets in the downtown area in order to allow food booths, crafts, and the race to take place on it.

If you would rather not be part of the hub-bub on main street, don’t be afraid to hike the Mt. Marathon Jeep Trail, hike out to Exit Glacier and the Harding Ice Field (part of Kenai Fjords National Park), or try the Lost Lake Trail (part of the Chugach National Forest).

All of these are just minutes from our bed and breakfast and make for either a short one hour hike to a full day hike. There are plenty of peaceful spots to stop along the trails to rest and enjoy the view.

We hope you will choose to stay with us in Seward while on your Alaskan vacation! You'll be glad you extended your stay here on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula!

Our smaller room rents for 100/night and the larger room rents for 120/night. We must also charge 11 percent bed tax for each night's stay.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: We'd like to introduce ourselves and tell you more about all the things there are to do in the Seward area. We, Dan and Lori, grew up in small town South Dakota. Young and ready for adventure, we moved to Alaska in 1977 to teach in the Aleutian Islands. Then in 1987 and two children later, the oil prices fell, and we lost our teaching jobs. Back to South Dakota for the next fourteen years to finish raising our children and be around our families. In 2001, teaching positions opened up in Seward, Alaska, and here we are back in the state that we love. We have met many wonderful people who have enriched our lives not only in Alaska, but also through our travels in other countries. We know what it is to be far from our home and meet people whom we quickly learn to call friends. Come stay with us and learn first hand about Alaskan hospitality with warm bear hugs at Bear Ridge Bed and Breakfast.

Why the Owner Chose Seward:
My husband and I love Alaska. Seward offers the grandeur of the mountains and the sounds of the ocean. How can anyone go wrong with that? We bought our property first as our home. Then we decided to run a Bed and Breakfast from that home. We count ourselves lucky to be able to live and teach where we do plus have the added benefit of getting to know people from all around the world through our B & B.

The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
I love to bake, but since my husband and I are in our 50s, we do not need all of those baked-good calories. Running a B & B allows me to have my fix of baking rolls for breakfast or cookies for evening snacks, but keeps me from eating all of those calories. One of my favorite 'things' to do after the hot rolls or coffee cake is out of the oven is to fix a really good espresso and head out to the hot tub to sip cofee and eat a bit of heaven while looking at Resurrection Bay. And, if I don't get a hot tub in the morning, I can always pour myself a glass of wine in the evening and sit in the hot tub or on the deck to watch the fishing boats come into the harbor. Remember, in the summer, the sunlight lasts until well after midnight.
