Great House in a Great Town
Great House in a Great Town
We used the whole house, as 10 members of our family gathered for our daughter’s wedding at Castle Farms. We were very comfortable in the house, and we were just two blocks from the Edgewater Inn where the rest of the wedding party stayed. The owner of the house was a pleasure to deal with and really made us feel like her guests. The house was extremely well equipped and supplied and suited our needs. When we arrived there were nice fluffy towels laid out in each room for all guests. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen, living, and dining areas were spacious. We were able to comfortably entertain and visit with family and friends who had come for the wedding. We enjoyed gathering on the front porch where there was plenty of seating. We were a little surprised by the amount of traffic on Michigan Ave. It was just across the front yard of the house across the street, but it really wasn’t a problem. We parked up to five cars off the street. Some of us stayed several extra nights after the wedding to relax and enjoy Charlevoix. That was a good decision because it’s a wonderful town. The listing for the house was complete and accurate. However, the upstairs layout was a little awkward. Three of the bedrooms had access to the hall bathroom with the beautiful clawfoot tub, but no shower. From those bedrooms one had to go through the larger front bedroom to get to a shower, or go downstairs. Just need to be aware of that when assigning bedrooms. The house is in a very convenient location. Make sure you catch the sunset from nearby Dixon Avenue. Some days it’s too cloudy, and some days it’s too clear, but with the right clouds to catch the colors, the sunsets are fantastic. We used at least five of the access points to the beach and enjoyed collecting samples of the fascinating variety of stones on the beach, including a few of the ancient Petoskey stones. Walk Dixon Avenue and Michigan Avenue to see some gorgeous old homes. The downtown shops are within walking distance, and worth visiting. We found everyone in town to be very welcoming and friendly, while not being intrusive. We were there for the planting of the miles of petunias, and were amazed by the wonderful civic participation by what seemed to be the whole town. Kudos to the Charlevoix Rotary Club for feeding the petunia planters. We have rented 12 houses in 10 states in 9 years. We enthusiastically recommend this house.

About: Our family visited Gramma Margrethe and Grampa Jim Corbin each summer as our 3 boys were growing up. When I was a child in the 1950s my siblings and I also visited our Grandparents who lived in Charlevoix just up the street from Olson's market. My husband and I have enjoyed redecorating Corbin Manor in a casual, welcoming style/ giving Corbin Manor a bed and breakfast flair. Guests invariably comment on their enjoyment of the large Charlevoix-style front porch...yes, one is able to peek at the Lake between the condos. My husband is a retired teacher of German and I am retired from early childhood teaching.
Corbin Manor was the home of my parents, Margrethe Baver and Jim Corbin. Our grandchildren are fifth generation of our family to explore and enjoy Charlevoix.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
When in Charlevoix I enjoy walking the beach while looking for Petoskey Stones. Our favorite stroll is to the "foot of Dixon", a two block walk, to watch the Sunset. Just down the hill 2 blocks is the Bridge with boats coming and going from Round Lake Harbor; watching the bridge go up and down is a trademark of Charlevoix. On cooler days the beach at Depot Beach, 7 blocks away, offers protection from off-shore winds and the warmer water of Lake Charlevoix. Finding bargains at the Rainbow Shoppe is a classic Charlevoix experience.
