Casa Colibri, home of the hummingbird, is a large bright 2 bedroom home overlooking San Miuel de Allende. This newer home has over 3,000 square feet of living space and is in the neighbourhood next to "Centro", an easy 20 minute down hill walk. One of the main features of this wonderful home is that all rooms have large, spectacular, brick-domed, boveda ceilings.The ground floor has two double doors in the living room area that open onto the large parking and garden area with fountain, great for entertaining or relaxing. A gas fireplace, TV with cable, CD and DVD also make the living room a comfortable place to relax. There is a full kitchen with eat-in counter and bar area. The dining room has a granite table and Mexican dishes for entertaining. Maid service is 3 times a week.
The second floor has a the large master bedroom with 2 "Juliette" balconies, its own small terrace overlooking the garden area and a Mexican tiled en-suite bathroom. On this level there also is a cozy den with TV, high speed internet and a pull out sofa.
The third floor has another large bedroom with a balcony that has breathtaking sunset views over the lake. Again, an ensuite Mexican bathroom. On this top level is the a tiled terrace, good for eating, relaxing or entertainig with beautiful views of the city and countryside including the Parroquia (Parish Church). All the bedrooms have hand-carved wood furniture and comfortable beds and linens.
The house is located in the colonia (neighbourhood) of Independencia which is a Mexcian family area with Canadian and US artists. It is extremely easy to get into the main square of the town. The public bus stops just 3 doors away and cost about 45 cents. There are many cabs and they only cost $2.50-$3.00 to get into town or ride home. This location gives you the chance to enjoy the many activities offered in town throughout the day and evening - and spend your nights in the quiet colonial of Independencia.
Everything is close by. San Miguel de Allende is a charming colonial town, a national historic landmark with an international community of artists, writers, dancers and musicians. The center of town or the Jardin (garden) has many wonderful sights and sounds. The is nightly entertainment, sidewalk cafes and artisan crafts. There is local theatre, dancing and music. There are many churches along the cobblestone streets to discover. There is a chamber music festival, a jazz festival, lots of local festivals and parades. Also, there are many art galleries, art lessons and shopping.
Truly, it is hard to describe the magic of this city. You need to come and experience it for yourself. You will feel at hone doing that from this wonderful house.

Review Submitted November 11, 2011 Date of Stay November 2, 2011 This is a very well thought out house that is kept in perfect condition by a wonderful housekeeper. The owners have stocked the house with everything that you will need for a comfortable stay. I especially liked the tankless water heater which supplied infinite hot water. Wired and wifi internet connections worked well thorough out the 3 floors. The only problem was that the password is changed for every occupant so you should tell the management office what password you would like before you go so you will not have to deal with this and wait for the internet person to come around to change the password on the router. Other details that were useful were three prong electrical outlets so no adapters are required and proximity to Highway 51 which allows for a 5 minutes car ride to the Mega store which is a large Walmart-like super store. About the owner: We are retired Canadians. Wayne keeps himself busy with golf and riding his Harley. Sharon is an artist and avid reader.
Why the Owner Chose Colonia Independencia:
We wanted to buy a home here as soon as we arrived the first time in 2005. The following year we found the perfect home, easy reach of the town center but up the hill in a quieter area. The house was so beautiful we had to buy.
