Loved the view and decor
Thank you so much for this beautiful apartment. We loved the view and decor. Alki Beach is a wonderful area. We appreciated the fact that you keep the apartment so clean and decorated so nicely. We plan to come back soon to see our nieces and Alki Beach again.

Love West Seattle!
Thanks you for providing a wonderful place to enjoy Seattle! We loved the location...far enough from the hustle and bustle of the city yet close enough to everything we wanted to do. Love the views and love West Seattle!

Wonderful timeGuest comment entered by owner
Dear Kathryn and John, We've had a wonderful time at your place here in Seattle. It felt like home. Especially because we came directly from Germany and were jet lagged. It was a perfect location to come down and arrive finally. What a pity we can't stay longer. We have to move on. Thanks for everything.

A Little Slice of Heaven
A Little Slice of Heaven
Just returned home from our stay at Alki-Soundview. What an amazing find. The views of the water and the Olympic Mountains were spectacular. My son enjoyed watching the ferries zip across the water from the living room window. I enjoyed the beautiful sunsets over the water. The home is as advertised. When we first arrived in West Seattle, it was wall-to-wall cars parked everywhere. By the time we made it up to Alki-Soundview, it was a different world. Homes were much more spread out with plenty of parking. The homeowners were easy to communicate with, and gave us plenty of ideas to keep us busy. We took to water taxi into Seattle multiple times. There is even a free shuttle near the home to take you to the water taxi dock. The parking near the dock is limited and you must parallel park on the street. We made dinner one night, and we had all the conveniences of home. Everything in the apartment is of high quality, including the linens. My only complaint is we didn't spend enough time at this wonderful home away from home.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for the very kind review. The benefits of being "close but not too close" to Alki include easier parking and quieter streets. The water taxi is a beautiful way to travel downtown.
We had the best vacation at Alki Soundview. Schmitz park nearby was a very nice chance to get back to nature. I would choose this location again in a heartbeat and if you choose this place your only disappointment will be that you didn't book it for longer. Thank you Kathryn and John for helping us enjoy an excellent adventure in Seattle!

Owner response: Thanks for the kind words. We are delighted you found Schmitz Park. It's a short walk, but it seems like you've traveled miles to the deep forest.
Best VRBO yetGuest comment entered by owner
Best VRBO yet
Incredible view. Cozy apartment and fabulous weather combined to make this our best Seattle Summer ever. (We've been escaping the Arizona heat for many years.) BEST VRBO we've stayed at yet. Hope to return here and perhaps stay even longer (we were here 5 weeks). Thank you, Kathryn and John

Lovely place to rejuvenateGuest comment entered by owner
Lovely place to rejuvenate
This is such a lovely place to rejuvenate after our days touring the Seattle area. We found the drive into Seattle not difficult at all, so we did not use the water taxi. We did ferry to Bainbridge Island to explore Discovery Point. The view is amazing and the front steps make a perfect vantage to sip a glass of wine - (our apologies if we've caused you any scandal!) Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality which offered us such a peaceful retreat. This has been a wonderful week which we will remember fondly.

My husband and I, along with our 3 teenage children, stayed 3 nights in June at this property and LOVED it! It was just as pictured on the website: very clean, roomy, beautifully decorated and wonderful views. This was our first time using VRBO so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the level of detail that John and Kathryn's unit has was amazing! Everything you can imagine in the kitchen and plenty of games, puzzles, movies, and books for rainy days. They have a wide collection of brochures and information on just about every tourist attraction, local attractions, transportation, etc... Kathryn greeted us upon our arrival and was always available if we needed something. The unit is actually an apartment on the ground floor of the house (the balconies in the pictures are upstairs). But, the patio offers beautiful views of Puget Sound and the neighborhood is quiet, clean, and very pretty. There is a beautiful hiking trail not far from the unit that leads directly to Alki beach with lots of restaurants and shopping. The ferry to downtown Seattle is a beautiful 10 minute ride across the sound and worth it just for the views (especially at night). I would highly recommend this property!

We expect to return to visit family here in Seattle within the next three years and we will absolutely look to stay here again. Did I mention the view?

Gem of a Seattle Vacation Spot
Thanks so much for the lovely stay at your spectacular Alki Soundview. You guys have created a gem of a Seattle vacation spot. The unit is so spacious and has such a spectacular view and location that we felt right at home - of course sans the California sunshine but with fantastic Seattle water ambiance. … We’ll tell our friends about it and hope some will contact you.

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: West Seattle has been our home for about 30 years. We bought this house in 2005 and spent several years doing a 'down to the studs' remodel which added a self-contained apartment on the garden level for family, friends and guests. We live upstairs. We enjoy travel, meeting travelers and sharing our love for this area. Now that we are empty-nesters, we are ready to offer the apartment and to extend Northwest hospitality to our visitors.
Why the Owner Chose West Seattle:
West Seattle has a remarkable mix of resources and activities. It is like living in a small beach town yet Seattle's downtown is just 10-15 minutes away.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
This is a large, private, tastefully furnished and decorated view apartment in a great location. We are a 10-12 minute walk from the action at Alki Beach. In the peak summer months it's great to be part of the action, but it's also important to be able to get away from it. We are a few blocks from two different bus lines and a free shuttle to the Water Taxi that travels across Elliott Bay to downtown Seattle. Whether you travel downtown by bus, water or car (about 10 minutes), there is plenty to do once you get there.
