Excellent place to stay!

Please do not let the fact that we have been remiss in reviewing Two Rib cabin sway you in any way from staying there. In fact, we highly encourage you to do so! Our family thoroughly enjoyed our visit in July. The cabin is beautiful. I especially likes the claw-footed tub...great for a soak after a day of horse-back riding! We visited Yellowstone, almost everyday, traveling through the Lamar Valley, where we saw bison, elk, deer and yes...bears! We heard there was a moose nearby, but didn't catch a glimpse. We also enjoyed the fact that The Bear Claw Bakery is a short walk away and has a delicious breakfast and wonderful pastries. If we ever have the opportunity to return to the Yellowstone/Cooke City area, we would definitely stay at the Two Rib Cabin again!

Perfect base for Yellowstone and the Beartooths

We loved this cabin, it's cozy, clean, full of light and beautifully fitted out and we couldn't have been more comfortable. It was nice to be able to walk into town, and getting to the wildlife of the Lamar Valley is an easy drive, and you can also cover the Grand Loop from here, albeit in a long day. Even though there was still a huge amount of snow on the ground we managed to get a spectacular blue-sky trip up and over the Beartooth Pass (not to be missed). Breakfasts (and Terri's cakes) at the Bearclaw were amazing; the Lamar Valley was breathtaking; and there were bears, buffalo and moose everywhere (even some bear prints outside the front door one day - that must have been the one that the neighbour's dog chased up a tree!) Cooke City is one of the best-kept secrets of the park and we're so glad we chose this friendly little town and this cabin as our main base for Yellowstone. THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Beautiful Cabin With Everything You Need!

We loved our stay at Two Rib Cabin! The listing did not do the cabin justice....it's better than advertised. The cabin has many amenities and was in a wonderful location, very close to the Lamar Valley. The caretaker, Vicki, was fantastic, taking care of all of our needs. Lilly was very kind to call us a couple of days before we came, letting us know about road closures and possible flooding. Both went out of their way to make us comfortable and feel at home. The cabin itself is wonderful, with everything one needs for a vacation home. Although we saw no wildlife from the cabin, we saw moose and fox driving through Silver Gate, and saw everything from wolves to bears in Yellowstone itself. I heartily recommend this cabin; it's perfect for families as well as for romantic getaways. I've already shared the VRBO # with colleagues from work! I would definitely return!

This was our second year staying at Two Rib Cabin and it was just as wonderful the second time around. The cabin itself is nicely furnished, clean, comfortable, and inviting. Even better is its location with easy access to excellent hiking, fishing, and sight seeing. My only quibble is that the house is not rented on a Saturday-Saturday basis like most rentals, so if you don't book early enough, you might get stuck with odd check in/check out days. Advice to other travelers: Cinnamon rolls and the other baked goods at the Bearclaw are delicious, but don't wait too late to go as the items go quickly. Then Log Cabin in Silver Gate has a good breakfast, Buns n Beds deli is good for lunch (tasty burgers and daily BBQ specials), and we liked The Beartooth Cafe for dinner (although we cooked most of our meals at the cabin). Yellowstone is the main attraction, but don't neglect exploring the Beartooths - it has a lot to offer with a fraction of the crowds you'll find in Yellowstone. We had good luck with wildlife sighting early mornings on Lulu Pass Road (moose four days in a row and mule deer). And even if you don't see wildlife, the wildflowers and views are just as nice. The Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody lives up to the hype and we also enjoyed the Beartooth Nature Center in Red Lodge (as well as the fantastic Montana Candy Emporium). If you'd like to see some pictures from the area, we have ours posted here: http://www.pbase.com/pudgy_groundhog/beartooths_2010 We'd highly recommend a visit to this beautiful area and a stay at Two Rib Cabin!

Trip of a Lifetime

Guest: Susan (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 06/27/10 Review Submitted: 07/09/10

This is a wonderful property for 4-5 people to explore and enjoy the most pristine and beautiful part of Yellowstone. We had a wonderful week exploring the park and saw a bounty of wildlife in the Lamar Valley. The cabin is a lovely space to come home to in the evenings and to enjoy relaxing. Be prepared for no cell phone service (which came a delightful surprise)! We walked daily to the Bearclaw bakery for wonderful goodies and brought them back to the cabin so we could enjoy oven warmed fresh biscuits each morning. My teenage son and 10 year old daughter shared the loft quite agreeably, thanks to the privacy screen in the storage area that allowed my daughter some comfort. She loved the cozy nook of her bed and my husband enjoyed sitting up late in the little office reading from the borrowed library. Although we were gone 12 hours each day, Two Rib cabin really became our home during the week. I can't recommend this property more highly!

I still cannot find the words that would do our vacation justice. It was spectacular. I have never seen anything like it in all my life. The Lamar Valley, Beartooth Hwy, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy - it was all amazing and so very beautiful. As we look at the pictures (which just do not compare to the real thing) we miss it and want to return (we are already thinking about the next trip out West). The cabin was wonderful to come home to in the evenings. The view out each window was incredible. We loved sitting on the deck. The whole experience was so peaceful and rejuvenating. We enjoyed our moose, fox and deer sightings on the property. Thank you for sharing your special place!

Thank you Jack and Lilly for sharing your wonderful cabin with our family. The six of us fit very comfortably - we were especially pleased about the "bonus" room across from the master bedroom that was perfect for our baby in her pack 'n play. We loved the location and the proximity to Yellowstone. We hope to get back soon!

Two Rib Cabin is a well-designed, well-equipped, quiet and comfortable cabin in an unbeatable location for easy access to the Lamar Valley. We had UNBELIEVABLE wildlife sightings by driving into the territories of the Slough Creek Pack and/or Druid Peak Pack by 5:30-6 a.m every morning and returning for the evening activity again from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The richness of the Yellowstone ecosystem exceeded our already high expectations. As a bonus, fabulous muffins from the Beartooth Bakery were a great way to start the day. We are already talking about a return trip in another year or two and would definitely want to book Two Rib Cabin again. This accommodation is a gem!

Two Rib Cabin is beautiful. It's proximity to Yellowstone and Lamar Valley makes it the absolute best place to stay. Thanks to it's great location, we were in the park every morning at sunrise and could stay until sunset if we wanted! (Which we did quite a bit.) Our family will be sure to stay here again when we get the opportunity to come back. (I hope it's soon!)

The two-rib cabin near Yellowstone NP in Cooke City is a wonderful place to use as home base in exploring the wonders of the park. The cabin is beautifully furnished, has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and is close and convenient to town too. The location puts you so close to many outdoor activities: hiking, fly fishing and wildlife watching. We enjoyed our stay greatly and would like to return again. The Tuholske's were gracious hosts and made lodging arrangements on this trip very easy to do. I highly recommend a stay here!

My family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Two Rib Cabin. The home is very cozy and conveniently located in the tiny town of Cooke City. We liked the fact that we could walk into town to have dinner or pick up some items we needed at the general store. We took trips into Yellowstone every day and saw so much wildlife including bison, coyote, fox, deer, bears (grizzly and black). The first evening we were at the cabin there were deer all over the back yard that we watched from the kitchen window. We are already talking about returning to Montana for another vacation and would definately stay in the same cabin again. Great memories!

We have had many vacation experiences in Canada and all over the United States, but found that "Two Rib Cabin" will be remembered as the most relaxing. We opened the door and felt that all had been specifically prepared just for us. The cozyiness of your home with all the small touches made it a comfortable place to call our own. We enjoyed fishing at Beartooth Lake, exploring Yellowstone Park, and making our own dinner while playing Trivial Pursuit. We hope to be back soon.

Thank you so much for the use of your cabin. We had a great time and your cabin is beautiful. It provided the perfect place to relax after the days exploring yellowstone. The kids loved the loft, and spent hours playing up there in the evenings. Weather was perfect....low 70's during the day with only a few brief storms and cool nights. We had only been in Cooke City a few minutes when we saw 2 bison cross Main St. and walk up Harris St. - what a welcome to the west! We were able to see most of yellowstone while we were there, and enjoyed the ride over the beartooth hwy from Red Lodge on our way to Cooke City. Again....thanks for the use of your cabin. It provided us with a perfect vacation. If we know of anyone visiting your area, we will surely recommend Two Rib Cabin.

Dear Lilly, We had a perfectly wonderful time at your cabin. It was warm, very comfortable, and homey. Mid April is a magical time in this area. We saw several Foxes right from the cabin windows scampering over the snow in the early morning. We also saw a Moose standing in the middle of Monument Street in Silvergate. In Yellowstone the little orange Buffalo calves were starting to appear in most herds. We saw one wobbly legged calf just a few hours old. The weather was very changing but that did not bother us. Things in Lamar Valley were in full swing and we saw pretty much everything we wanted and hoped to see. My husband took some very good pictures of the Buffaloes in the snow (we even got charged by an old bull that didn't like us overtaking him on the road!). There was a lot of Wolf action in the Slough Creek area. We saw a radio collard Wolf in the area of Little America, its face bright pink from just having finished dinner and a belly that looked near bursting. We saw lots of Antelope and Big Horn Sheep, several of which were very willing photo subjects. My husband also took some great pictures of a Cinnamon Black Bear feeding on an Elk carcass. We also saw Grizzlies including a family of four, a sow and three cubs. One of the cubs was a male and he was considerably larger than its two sisters. Thank you for renting us your cabin. We hope to be able to rent it from you again some time in the not too distant future. Isabel

Outstanding cabin in a great location. Easy access to Yellowstone plus the bonus to being close to Beartooth pass. We loved the cabin which was nice, clean and well equipped. The renters were very helpful and professional. From the cabin its easy to take day trips for great fishing and horseback riding in the Beartooths and great wildlife veiwing in Yellowstone. Our family would rank it a 10 out of 10.

My family of 6 fit comfortably within the cabin...had all the sleeping accomodations we needed. It was a great place for us to make some memories, and we can't wait for our return trip to Cooke City, and to this wonderful cabin.

This gorgeous cabin is “nestled” in more ways than one. Six miles west lies Yellowstone; not many more miles east lie the Beartooths (with the indescribable Beartooth Pass, a feat of engineered roadwork that is winding beauty surrounded by beauty). In and around Cook City—-a true Western town-—there’s plenty outdoor adventure; potential excursions abound. I can’t imagine a more strategically located cabin that can match the Two Rib in terms of beauty, comfort, function and warmth—-that’s warmth in the sense of just feeling good with your first step into the place. (For those worried about literal warmth, you needn’t. Meticulous craftsmanship, walls designed with plenty of insulation, weather efficient windows, baseboard heating and a mini but mighty wood stove in the living room make for one cozy stay). By any measure, these are Four Star accommodations in a part of Montana that few people have the pleasure of taking in. You’re not too far from Chico Hot Springs either, if you feel like venturing there for a soak and a four-star meal. This was my fourth trip to Yellowstone, second visit to Cooke City, and my first stay in Cooke. I cannot wait to return. You couldn’t come home to nicer place after a long day of driving, hiking, fishing, skiing, climbing, etc. No doubt some will find it difficult to stray far from such inviting confines…

The cabin was extremely nice and a wonderful location to explore indepth the northeast corner of Yellowstone, Cody, and the Beartooth pass. Cooke City is a very quaint tiny town just outside of the park. Our family spent a wonderful time in June. Jack and Lilly have provided more than enough "essentials" to make anyone's stay extremely comfortable. I would like to warn travelers to pack some warm clothes. We actually had sleet/snow on June 25th!! There is a very functional pot belly stove to warm the cabin, if necessary. We hope to return to the area in the future and would definitely love to stay at the cabin again.

Beautiful, new, well appointed cabin near the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone. If you are interested in comfortable, relaxing accomodations after spending the day wildlife watching in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley, this is the place! The kids also enjoyed the deer watching right from the kitchen window.

This is a great "cabin" (more than a cabin really). It has a wonderful "feel" to it. Far nicer than anything else we've stayed at in Cooke. We had two fabulous days of telemark skiing and then saw more than a dozen wolves on our way home!
