The Laurel Cottage is one of only two cottages on Cold Mountain's 200 Riverfront Acres. This page features The Laurel, but if your dates are taken for the Laurel, please check the availability of VRBO Listing #325383 or simply email or call us. For on-line reservations please see our website www.coldmountainvacations.com. Please visit us on Facebook: The Cottages at Cold Mountain.
One of two cottages on Cold Mountain's 200 riverfront acres, the Laurel Cottage was designed by renowned architect Keith Summerour and the idea was to take the very finest elements of luxury homebuilding and scale them down to an enjoyable, sensible size of 2300 feet. In the indoors, we wanted guests to be able to enjoy the very best materials, craftsmanship and design--understated elegance. The exterior features locally harvested stone, cedar siding, and unbelievable Ludowici clay tile roofing. Guests will feel at once that they are stepping back in time to an era when craftsmanship and materials still mattered, and stepping forward into the future with flatscreens wired with digital cable, GoogleTV and unlimited on-demand Netflix. The Laurel's hidden, walk-in pantry is reminiscent of an English larder.
The kitchen, dining and living areas are fully integrated with an all-stone terrace timber-framed porch. The kitchen features plaster walls, beautiful views, a Wolf range, Subzero refrigerators and beautiful soapstone countertops and custom cabinets.
The Laurel Cottage is one of only two cottages located within the private, gated riverfront conservation community called Cold Mountain. The clear waters of the East Fork River run through the property, and our guests have private access to 1/2 mile of it.With your reservation you will receive a complimentary one hour fly fishing lesson. The 200 acres features the river which is within 300 feet of the cottage and a stocked trout pond. The cottage is located in the heart of the meadow area of Cold Mountain and is within 100 feet of an historic dairy barn (no animals today). The Laurel Cottage fronts a private activity field for soccer, volleyball or chasing fireflies and an apple orchard, small vineyard and raspberry and blackberry patches. (Great for the morning's cereal.) The upper 1/3 of Cold Mountain is very mountainous and guests can hike, mountain bike, ride horses, camp or picnic at 4,000 feet if they wish.
You will need to carefully consider the town that is close by. If you haven't discovered Waynesville, do yourself a favor and check it out. This year, no less a source than the L.A. Times called Waynesville 'the perfect blend of mountain charm and sophistication.' Art galleries, tailgate markets, and an incredible wine store (The Wineseller) all just 15 minutes away. Want to take advantage of something in Asheville? It's just 35 minutes away. We love Asheville, but the truth is it is a city, which is what we believe a lot of people are seeking to escape. Stay in the country, use Waynesville as your anchor town and cherry-pick the best of Asheville's offerings. Now, you're 35 minutes away from Asheville and 15 minutes from Waynesville, but that gives you the payoff of a spectacularly beautiful, riverfront setting. Plus, you are in the direction of something...Pisgah National Forest begins just 5 minutes south of the property and leads you into some of the most beautiful and iconic places in the Eastern US--Sliding Rock, Mount Pisgah Inn, Looking Glass Falls and many more are within 20 minutes for a truly unlimited amount of recreational potential. Finally, Springdale Golf Club (18 holes) is directly across the street for any family members wishing to keep a swing sharp.
We built and furnished the Willow and Laurel Cottages because we were generally disappointed with the quality of both the homes and properties available for vacation rental. Also, being flatlanders from Hilton Head, we had grown tired of those terribly steep properties that have nice views, but nothing to do. The Cottages at Cold Mountain are absolutely unique offerings in Western North Carolina with views, water and lots of room to roam...thank you for taking a moment to consider us. We look forward to hearing from you. We regret that the covenants of Cold Mountain do not permit weddings.

This was our first time to Cold Mountain and we loved it! We love the amazing style of the home and how open and inviting it feels. We love the property and all the spaces and activities it had to offer. We loved visiting and enjoying dinners at one table together. It has provided an amazing enviornment for us to share space, brainstorm, and rest. Thank you! Can't wait to bring our leadership team back and have a family vacation here..... our kids would love it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

From beginning to end, this was a wonderful vacation. The house is absolutely stunning, surrounded by a stunning mountain, river, views, etc. Our three small boys were constantly outside playing on the lawn, exploring the barn, sledding, etc. We caught a bunch of trout, and cooked them up in the gorgeous kitchen, which was so nicely stocked with so many extras like, sugar, olive oil, garlic. The linens and towels were wonderful...everything in the house was a slice of luxury. Kendra and Tim are super helpful, they made themselves available for any questions or needs that we had. We will be going back for sure. It was just perfect!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: The Cottages are owned by three families, one from Hilton Head, another from Santa Fe, and a third from Hendersonville who came together to create a vacation offering that they had always sought, but seldom found: sufficient beauty, warmth and luxury to restore the adults, but lots of room-to-roam onsite in free pursuit of adventure for kids (and kids at-heart) so that they must be called-in from outside.
Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
We chose Cold Mountain and the Cruso Valley as the location for the Laurel Cottage because it is the perfect balance between country and city living. Any closer to Asheville, and we were not getting our “River Runs Through It” fix; any farther from Asheville felt a little too “Deliverance” or required traversing winding, nauseous roads. Also, our two owners from the popular tourist destinations of Hilton Head and Santa Fe wanted a mountain experience that felt like a genuine getaway, rather than a duplication of their country club environs back home or, worse, the contrived resort-town experience.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The stage is set for you to create your own experiences. Grab one of our flyrods and wade the river, or a Zebco instead and help a child catch a first fish in the pond. Work with a local chef for a catered dinner on the sunset knoll or pack pimento cheese sandwiches to eat riverside. Tube the river or read a novel start-to-finish in the hammock under the birches with the river flowing alongside. Risotto and your favorite red at The Chef’s Table in Waynesville, or hamburger, fries and a chocolate malt at Jukebox Junction in Cruso. The list goes on and on and we are available to give you as much help as you like in planning activities for a long-remembered mountain vacation.
