Relax on front porch swing and catch a glimpse of the many trains that pass through Folkston each day. Visit the Train Museum in the old restored depot in downtown Folkston. Walk around town for an ice cream cone or soup and sandwich at Whislin Dixie's and join the ever present group of train watchers at the Funnel. Take a short ride to the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge for a guided tour of the pristine wilderness or rent a boat for a closer look at the alligators in the cypress swamp. Take a day trip to historic St. Marys where ferries daily cruise the open waters of the St. Marys River forty-five minutes to Cumberland Island where you will see wild horses, deer and turkeys on your walk across the island to the Atlantic Ocean beach. Take other day trips to St. Simons, Jekyll, or Amelia Island.
At the end of the day enjoy a fine dinner at the Okefenokee Restaurant in Folkston or
Lang's seafood in St. Marys.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage....such a charming old house with true hardwood floors and a front porch swing. A real taste of the south! Only 8 miles to the Okefenokee wildlife refuge, and lovely Coke floats at nearby Whistlin' Dixie. Perfect getaway for someone looking to escape the city for a while! We would definitely return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your review. You said it better than we could! So glad your family enjoyed our area. Many of our guests this year have visited the Train Museum in Folkston's restored depot and some have taken the ferry from St. Marys to Cumberland Island. Come back for the Okefenokee Festival in October.

For train watching it was excellent. Owner is very cooperative. Small but fits your needs.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for your review. It's been so nice to visit with folks from several northern states this winter. So good that some guests have made the cruise to Cumberland Island. We hope that they will come back for more fun on the beaches and in the Okefenokee...

We had a great time at the Okefenokee Cottage. It's cozy, quaint and in a great location -- less than 10 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp and near enough to St. Mary's, Jekyll and St. Simon Islands for day trips. We were welcomed by the owner, a true gentleman of the South. He made sure we were comfortably settled and were familiar with the highlights of Folkston and the surrounding area. We really appreciated the cable TV and wi-fi. Be sure to go to Whistlin' Dixie's, and "the funnel." If you like Thai food, there's a great restaurant, Tup Tim Thai, on Main Street.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks so much for your review of the Okefenokee Cottage. We are pleased you are having so many nice visits to interesting places in the South. Please come back for more adventure on the coast and surrounding areas.
