Fantastic LA weekend getaway. We live in LA but were looking for a mini two night getaway. The 'Hideaway' was perfect. A secluded location with an amazing view of Topanga Canyon and short drive down to Malibu for a day trip to the beach. Owners were very friendly and respectful of our privacy, they live in the house above the cottage so are just a phone call or text message away if needed, made us feel welcome and we loved having their dogs wander down to play with us. Would highly recommend, price is right, we would return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Wow! We just got back from our stay at the Hideaway. It's hard to express how grateful we are to the way Olga and her family made us feel welcome. We are a Midwestern family of four with two teenagers. We were looking to do some touristy things in Hollywood and at the same time enjoy the local life of Topango, Santa Monica and Malibu. Olga provided us with great suggestions. Every suggestion was a winner with our family. She even guided us on a six mile hike to Eagle Rock! The proximity of the Hideaway provides easy access to all the great activities of California life yet provides the seclusion of being able to get away from it all. The only downside to our stay was it was too short. Thanks Olga!Owner response: Jeff and Linda (and the kids)! I really enjoyed meeting your family and taking you on one of my most challenging hikes;) Hope you come back and see us soon! Olga and the boys.

upon arrival both me and my fiancee immediately felt connected to this amazing Hideaway. There is something about the atmosphere on this property that i love it is so peaceful it feels like you are not in California anymore. great views -great energy coming out of this house. we will definitely be back!!!! Olga came down to greet us, she is such a nice person very friendly and attentive. As much as we tried leaving the house to go enjoy the beach.......... we couldn't!!! we just wanted to sit near the edge of the hill and enjoy the view drink some wine ...so relaxing to me it was like a Spa getaway as weird as it may sound, i was so relaxed which was perfect before getting back to the busy L.A lifestyle. it was a very therapeutic weekend. the house is so big and clean with all the amenities to make you feel like home. cant wait to go back!!!Owner response: Luis and Susan, I am sooooo happy you guys were able to relax and enjoy your weekend, really makes me happy to hear this! This is exactly why we decided to do this HomeAway thing, this place is just too special not to share:) Please, come back to the canyon soon.

Can't wait to go back to the Hideway where I loved the views, the hikes, and the gorgeous plantings! The cottage is very comfortable and the property is peaceful. I enjoyed sipping morning coffee overlooking the canyon followed by a long hike from Topanga State Park to the pacific ocean overlook. The owner was hospitable. Can't go wrong with a trip to the Hideaway!Owner response: It was great having you Carole! Hope to see you back at The Hideaway soon:)

my fiancee and i stayed at this beautiful house this weekend and we will be back soon!... This place is truly a hidden gem, local yet so far away. Upon arrival Olga gave us a warm greet, and was very attentive. we loved the place at first sight it brought very good energy and peace to us, exactly what we were looking for this weekend to get away from our busy city life. the house was so clean and spacious, the pictures are very accurate and trust me you will not be disappointed. for us it was a therapeutic getaway we were looking forward to being relaxed and at peace and to be honest we both agree that this place is the perfect hideaway from it all. for us it is convenient since it was a very short drive from west los angeles to topanga canyon. the house is very private and has great mountain scenery and a very spacious yard. thanks a lot Olga we are truly hoping to be back soon......... -luis & susanDid you find this review helpful? We had a great stay at the Hideaway. First, you're so close to everything -- the beach and waves are just a short drive, Santa Monica/Venice/Greater LA is an easy commute for a day of shopping or site seeing and wonderful hikes (with lots of wildlife, flowers and plants of CA) are walking distance from the door of the home. Really, the very best of Southern California can be had within easy access of The Hideaway. The house is the perfect size for a couple and two of their friends or a small family. We were a couple and we had my brother and his girlfriend come visit for a couple nights and were all very comfortable with plenty of space. Both bedrooms are good sized and all of the amenities of being at home are right there -- appliances, including a w/d and a TV with good cable, grill and wifi. Everything works. The decor is very classy and appropriate for the style of house. Did I mention that there is a pretty good sized yard -- enough room to toss a ball or frisbee around (but don't lose it down the hill) -- and it is set up with places to sit, have a meal or relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the view. While the owners are nearby, just up the hill, the home is very private with trees, etc. all around. Olga and Sam (the owners) are super friendly and more than willing to give you suggestions for your visit. Olga helped us find a good hike that met our skill level and let us know that we could call on her if we had any issues at all. We use HomeAway's services whenever we travel (and we travel often) and our stay at The Hideaway was right there with our very, very best experiences!Owner response: We really enjoyed hosting Walter and his family, thank you for the kind words and we hope to see you on your next California excursion:)

This was my second stay here, and it's becoming one of my favorites. All of the above reviews are accurate, and it is a perfect place to relax, cook, hike, nap in the hammock, spend time with loved ones, write, read, or just use as a tranquil home base to explore the surrounding areas. Olga was a great host--giving suggestions, guidance, and privacy--whatever you ask for! The cottage is roomy yet quaint, and is decorated with a classy, comfortable character. I had no problems with the amenities--everything 'worked' as it should--and I would say the cottage is more beautiful in person than it is in the pictures. It is a nice place to watch the sunset, drink a glass of wine out in the yard under the trees, or get some work done with no interruptions! There are good restaurants and gourmet grocery stores nearby, and it's an easy drive to the beach or to the city. I can't say enough about this place--mainly because I want it to be available next time I try to book it! Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family and I spent a long weekend at the The Hideaway and we truly loved it. The location was perfect, quiet and peaceful, surrounded by mountains that overlooked the canyon. We enjoyed the cottage, which was very spacious and offered all the modern conveniences. The Hideaway was close to shops, very good restaurants and beaches. Olga, the owner was very kind and attentive to our needs. We recommend this place to our family and friends and we hope to come back in the near future for a quiet relaxing time.Owner response: It was great having you guys here! We'd love to have you back and we'd like to offer you a 10% discount on your next stay:)

An authentic taste of California canyon living which is lovely and very different from the stereotypical image of suburban Los Angeles. We loved sitting in the large private garden shaded by mature trees and cooled by a gentle ocean breeze, watching the humming birds hovering around the wild flowers while we gazed out over the stunning and expansive views across the canyon. A car is essentail but it is only about ten minutes drive to the beach and about fifteen minutes to the shopping malls and restaurants of nearby Calabassas and Woodland Hills, The owners were professional yet very attentive and welcoming and were quick to answer our questions and needs - they live just up the hill. We loved the house and enjoyed our stay. The listing on the website was accurate, though some people might expect it to be closer to the main part of Malibu. The photos were very clear and helped us decide on this place. The property was very clean and well maintained. The owners had plenty of good suggestions of places to eat and to visit. Very highly recommended as one of the best places we have booked through VRBO.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Barry! We really enjoyed meeting you guys, thanks for kind words about our cottage and we hope to see you back at The Hideaway soon. Best, Olga Crawford

We spent the Memorial Day weekend at The Hideway. Arrived late at night and awoke to an awesome view of the canyon, We were not very motivated to leave and see the sights because the house and grounds offered so much space to relax--I spent an afternoon in the hammock reading a book and enjoying the coastal breeze. The house is completely seperate from the main house and gives you a lot of privacy. Because of the design of the house it looks and feels much larger than the listed square footage. Free use of beach towels and chairs came in handy.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
