My girlfriend and I came out to this cabin to spend a long weekend and we absolutely loved it. Dan and Barbara were there right away to let us in when we arrived and show us everything we needed to know about the cabin. The cabin is in wonderful condition and we can not emphasize enough how beautiful the views of the surrounding mountains were. Furthermore we loved being so close to Seneca Rock, Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods Wilderness, and other Canaan Valley attractions while still having a great place to come back to and relax after a day of exploring. All around we had an amazing experience while staying at this cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

The wind was blowing snow at 40+ mph when we arrived to the cabin and Dan had a fire made for us when we arrived. With two small children in tow, Dan also helped my husband unload the car. His thoughtfulness and attention to detail is unprecedented. The same care that Dan showed us upon arrival is also bestowed on the cabin. The cabin is wonderfully furnished and every inch is welcoming to adults and children. The fireplace made the cabin nice and toasty. The abundance of pillows, toys, blankets and fireplace warmth kept the kids in a playful, snuggle-ie mood until the wind was calm enough to play outside. We really look forward to coming back to this cabin. The views of the stars--both from inside and outside the cabin--are amazing, sunrise/sunset is camera worthy, and I could go on and on. I really appreciated the garden in the yard. I was able to kick off the snow, pluck some rosemary and thyme and make herb browned butter. The grilled cheese sandwiches and fried potatoes were all the better. Thank you for providing a beautiful cabin that met the desires of everyone in our family. It was perfect.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My boyfriend told me where go camping for the weekend and we drove from NJ to West Virginia on Labor Day weekend. When we pulled up to this house I did not believe we were staying in such a beautiful place. It ended up that my boyfriend brought me up there to propose! The place was perfect...it was so nice, romantic, with lots of space, and we really enjoyed the deck with the gorgeous views of the mountains and the privacy of the hot tub. I couldnt ask for anything else. We will be back. You can tell Dan & Barbara are truly nice and down to earth people who care about their guests. We would not change anything about this experience! See you soon Dan & Barbara.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

SPECTACULAR...This is the only word I can think of when I describe our weekend. The hospitality Barbara and Dan,you are the best. The view AMAZING, the Cabin perfect and spotless. I searched the internet and looked at every cabin in the area but kept coming back to yours. I really feel it was Gods calling to a little piece of heaven. Why I wanted to get away for my 50th birthday I am not sure, but it was the BEST!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Dan & Barb, If it wasn't for missing our kids so much, we would stay another week! This has, by far, been our favorite anniversary vacation. Sitting on the porch yesterday watching it rain was the most relaxing time. The motorcycle rides were awesome with some gorgeous scenery. Coming back to this cabin felt like we were "coming home". Our spirits have been refreshed. We really are sad to leave! Your cabin truly is warm, comfortable and beautiful. The view cannot be beat! Your hospitality has make us feel welcome, even from my first phone conversation with Dan. We feel God lead us to this place because He knew what it would mean to us. You and your "pretty little cabin" have been a blessing! God willing, we will be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Dear Dan and Barb, Sorry we didn't get to meet you Barb, but we want to thank you both. You have been blessed and now you are blessing others by sharing the beauty of these mountains from the comfort of your cozy cabin. We are simple hard working folks with not allot of opportunities so we especially appreciate the wonder and awe of these mountains. We definitely want to bring our kids and grand-kids back up here, We will also tell all our friends and family about this place. Thank you so much Donnie and DebbieDid you find this review helpful? Owner info
About the owner: As a retired builder from Chesapeake Va., a lover of the mountains and an out door enthusiast the mountains of West Virginia was the perfect fit for us! We moved here about five years ago and have never looked back. After more than 30 plus years building custom homes for my clients and seeing their dreams come true, we now get to see our dreams come true. We spend our time sharing our lifestyle with family, friends and guests here in the Mountains of WV! We love to go skiing, hiking, biking, hunting, and also enjoy watching the sunset between the mountains! On our many hikes to waterfalls and streams our beagle, Bluebell, comes along too. She even treads through the snow along side us in the winter when we go x-country skiing or snow shoeing! We think she loves it here as much as we do! Our days are filled entertaining our guests who have taken time off from their busy lives to visit. We cherish the time we are able spend with them by showing off wild, wonderful WV!
Why the Owner Chose Canaan Valley:
We chose to have a guest cabin here because of the absolute beauty of the WV mountains! The skiing, hiking trails, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, rock climbing, and hunting are just extra things to do.
The real beauty here is that you are surrounded by nature and have the ability to breath in fresh mountain air! This is a vacation spot where you really can relax and get refreshed before heading back to work. The sunsets and star gazing rejuvenates the soul by giving us strength, peace and balance for the road ahead..
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Most of the activities such as skiing both downhill and x-country are approx. 7-10 miles away. Horseback riding and hiking trails also.. The cabin boasts of its views of the mountains and a peaceful setting to relax around the fireplace inside the cabin or outside by the campfire. Star gazing is prime here because this area has been noted for being one of the darkest spots on the east coast!
