The Blue Heron River Retreat is a custom built log cabin located right on the banks of the Little Red River near Heber Springs, Arkansas. Rustic luxury is what you will experience when you stay with us. Guests wanting to fish, bird watch, paddle the river, or just relax will find this to be the perfect place on the river. We are located approximately 5 miles from the town of Heber Springs.
The cabin is completely furnished, and has a fully equipped kitchen. There are 3 bedrooms and two full baths to provide a comfortable stay for up to 8 guests. A large screened-in deck overlooks the cool waters of the Little Red River. Gas log fireplaces on the screened porch and in the living room add cheer & warmth to these gathering areas during the cooler months.
Outside the cabin there is a large fire pit on the bank overlooking the river, and also a private boat dock. The lighted dock has a slip for one fishing boat, and a sink with running water for cleaning the day’s catch. The dock is the perfect place to enjoy a summer sundowner while experiencing the river’s natural air conditioning. The river banks behind the cabin are gentle and sloping; providing easy drag-in access for launching kayaks, canoes, or small fishing boats.
The ground level section of the cabin has a pool table and ping pong table. A horse shoe set is also available with plenty of room to play in the side yard. There is a covered area underneath the screened deck with two charcoal grills available for our guests to use.

There simply are no words to adequately describe the Blue Heron River Retreat!!! From the moment I pulled in the driveway until I sadly had to depart, I was in "heaven on earth"!! The attention to detail in the furnishings and overall decor are over the top!!! The view of the river from the cabin is unbelievable and instantly took my breath!! The expansive screened in porch with a large stone gas fireplace was equipped with furnishings that were calling my name to sit, relax, and enjoy the river view. The very short walk to the river and dock on the deck path was perfect for relaxing, fishing and boating!! The beds were so comfortable that I didn't even wake up throughout the night - which is rare when sleeping away from home. The exterior was perfectly groomed and the inside was extremely clean and well stocked with everything we needed....even the use of seasonings in the kitchen cabinet! The nearby shopping was much better than expected. The quaint shops were perfect for many Christmas gift purchases, but it was hard to pull ourselves away from the cabin!! This was the perfect place for an awesome 3 days with my best friend! I can't wait to bring my family here for a fishing weekend (or week)! Thanks for sharing your incredible haven! I can't wait to return!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

My husband, two kids -- along with grandma and grandpa -- stayed at the Blue Heron River Retreat for four days and it was absolutely wonderful -- in every way. We really enjoyed the time away together, and the privacy of the retreat. It was great for the kids to be able to go fishing on the river -- just to walk down to the dock and sit out there any time of day -- it was so incredibly relaxing. The cabin itself is lovely -- the furniture and decor are really lovely -- tasteful -- and in some cases, nicer than what we have at home. We didn't watch much TV, but it was there if we wanted. The screen porch is awesome, the grounds are lovely. It's really a perfect getaway -- with all the amenities of a nice hotel (including really comfy beds). We loved it, highly recommend it and definitely hope to make a return visit.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Big Creek Natural Area View on map
Big Creek Natural Area, located near the northeastern limit of the Arkansas Valley, includes approximately five miles of the course of Big Creek, a major tributary of the Little Red River. High water quality and diverse populations of fish and other aquatic organisms are characteristic of Big Creek. Bluffs tower as high as 200-feet above the streambed. This site's topographic relief, varied exposures, and considerable extent provide habitat for a broad array of plant and animal species. A primitive foot-trail provides access to some of the natural area’s most interesting features.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
Why the Owner Chose Heber Springs:
My wife and I rented the cabin for 1-1/2 years from the original owners. We loved the cabin and the location so much that we offered to buy it. Fortunately the owners were willing to sell it to us. We love the peace and tranquility this location has to offer. Trout fishing in the river, and bird watching are additional bonuses.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Trout fisherman will have private access from the river bank, and also the convenience of a private, lighted boat dock on the property. Fishing in nearby Greers Ferry Lake is considered excellent for walleye, hybrid bass, catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. Dam site boat launch on the lake is located 5 miles from the cabin.
Bird watching at the cabin and the surrounding area is excellent. A large group of trumpeter swans makes nearby Magness Lake their wintering ground from November to February.
Kayakers and canoeist will find they have easy, drag-in access on the gently sloping banks behind the cabin.
