Kenmare townhome description
This gracious townhouse contains 1540 square feet of living area, complete with a full length deck overlooking the River Finnehy, with a fine garden between. An ancient, beautifully designed drystone bridge, known as the Cromwell Bridge, is in full view of the property. A carefully tended Druid stone circle is around the corner and up toward the end of Market Street, a pleasant ten minute walk rewarded with quiet moments contemplating the ancient stonework and the hardy folk who built it.
The property boasts solid teak woodwork and wall to wall wool carpeting throughout. Guests enjoy unlimited free phone use to America and throughout the UK and Ireland, along with Sky TV in the lounge, dining room, and the master suite as well. Two sculptured marble fireplaces provide warmth and comfort, one with classic Liscannor stone hearth. You'll enjoy power showers, built-in hair dryers, and a gas grill on the deck. A state of the art Apple iMAC computer, a Bluetooth-enabled entertainment system, WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen and private off street parking round out the amenities.
Along with carefully chosen period art and antiques, you'll notice a decorative battle sword mounted on a wall opposite the kitchen, and a genuine Irish drum called a boudran'. These symbolize both the fierce, warlike history of the Irish, melded with their fun-loving, lively and charming musical traditions.
Just a few doors away from Stoneybrough you'll find The Bookstop Cafe' where you'll be tempted by warm scones fresh from the oven daily, and Olga's marvelous soups and quiches for lunch, infused with superb cheeses from her own farm.
A short stroll takes you to the heart of downtown, with the finest restaurants, pubs, live music, and busy shops and galleries for which Kenmare is justly famous. Two five-star hotels provide fine cuisine as well, along with luxurious spa experiences judged by Fodor's as the best in Europe.
Kenmare Golf Club, with beautiful views of Kenmare Bay is only a short walk away. The Ring of Kerry course overlooking Kenmare Bay is only a ten-minute drive.
You'll also find Kenmare centrally located for many of the finest golfing experiences in Ireland: the Ballybunion, Waterville, Dooks, Old Head, Tralee and Killarney courses are all within reasonable driving distances.
Kenmare is at the foot of the Ring of Kerry, the most popular travel destination in Ireland. There you'll find breathtaking scenery, iron age ring forts, the incredible 6th century monastic ruins on the island of Skellig Michael, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), even pre-historic fossilized tetrapod tracks on Valencia Island. A full day spent on the Ring, another on the wild and less-traveled Beara Peninsula, and still another spent on the equally spectacular Dingle Peninsula will leave you with the most indelible experiences and memories imaginable.
By special arrangement, a private tour guide can customize the perfect day trips to meet your requirements.
Returning home, you might whip up a gourmet dinner served on Ralph Lauren Wedgwood china, with the freshest locally sourced ingredients from Roger O'Sullivan's butcher shop and the delightful small grocery just across the cobbled street from Stoneybrough. Feast on local grass fed beef, or fresh Kerry lamb, seasoned and garnished with rosemary picked from your garden. Or indulge yourself with savory Atlantic salmon caught just offshore, grilled on alderwood planks found in the kitchen, with fresh dill from the deck planter.
Or not! Take in an evening of fine food, fun, music and entertainment at any of the pubs and gourmet restaurants just a five minute walk away. You'll enjoy the freshest salmon, shrimp, whitefish, cod, and bay mussels, a local delicacy, in every bowl of steamy, creamy Kenmare seafood chowder.
Then, stroll home under the stars, falling asleep to the music of the River Finnehy.

Wonderful Setting & Outstanding Property
Wonderful Setting & Outstanding Property
Lovely stay for my family of five over New Year's week in the wonderful town of Kenmare. We could not have asked for more from this well appointed townhouse, and the housekeeper was on call throughout our stay to assist in any way possible. The home itself was extremely comfortable, with two beautiful fireplaces (den and living room), and an outdoor deck that overlooked the beaufiful river and comforting sounds of the water. Inside, the master bedroom/bath was especially luxurious, with quality robes and linens. But one of the best features had to be the location. This property is located within steps of the shops, bakeries, pubs, restaurants, and markets of Kenmare - with the nearest butcher only a few doors away - yet the solitude of the home given it's location on the river banks, let you feel isolated and provided solitude while listening to the river in the evenings - absolutley wonderful. Kenmare's proximity to many nearby sights made this location ideal for exploring the area - but if we didn't feel like driving that day, there was plenty to explore on foot in this exceptional town, given the townhouse's perfect location. While exploring the town on foot we commented that there could not be a more ideal location in Kenmare - close to everything, yet providing the opportunity to enjoy the solitude of the river when you wanted to unwind - could not have asked for a better combination.

truly a home away from home!
truly a home away from home!
The charm and comfort of this unit on the Finnehy River set the scene for our visit to Kenmare and the Ring of Kerry, and the Ring of Beara as well as the Killarney National Park. John and Jenelle have put together a 4" binder of information which was a treasure trove and great reading...it was like having them there to help with attractions. Having 4 bedrooms/3.5 baths seemed like a luxury for 2 couples, but served to make the unit more spacious than we anticipated. (6 adults would find it a bit tight.) The relaxing sound of the river, the peaceful garden area, and the quiet bridge street belied the fact that it was a block from the town square! It was only on Fri & Sat nights that we heard night time voices from the street. The well-stocked kitchen allowed us to cook the produce and seafood we bought at the Wed market, and the proximity of the excellent meat market and organic Co-op and two large grocery stores gave us a welcome break from having to eat out all the time. The laundry made refreshing our wardrobes after 2 weeks on the road most convenient. From the luxurious bathrobes to the Wi-Fi and the computer with Skype, to the availability of the very capable housekeeper and the excellent reading lights in the bedrooms as well as the living room, this property is one of the best we have ever used. All that is advertised in the listing was true in reality. Being not very technology savvy, we had trouble using the house phone except for the programmed numbers to the housekeeper and the Stonebrakers, but the nearby Visitor Center staff were helpful with contacting cousins in Macroom, Cty Cork. Did I say that we fell in love with the music and the town of Kenmare?!! We will be sure to tell our family and friends who love Ireland about Stoneybrough at Finnehy Court!

Year Purchased: 2013
About: We're Americans, living on a mountain lake in South Carolina, Bonita Springs, Florida and now, Ireland. We have two sons and three grandchildren, all above average. We're retired professionals, now enjoying our avocations including musical performance, ocean sailing, travel, hiking and fishing. When I was a little boy, my parents admired a fine Georgian brick mansion on a country lane not far from where we lived. Dad's nickname was Stoney, as is mine. Dad had picked up a little pidgin English in the service during the war. He'd say, 'Stoney no can buy that house! Stoney broke! So my parents began calling the place, 'Stoneybroke.' A 'brough' is an archaic Gaelic word for an enclosure, like a fort or even a walled cattle confinement area. So 'Stoneybrough' is a play on words that has meaning for our family.
We found Kenmare by getting lost. Our travel agent described a B&B he booked for us as being 'at the foot of the Ring of Kerry'. Who knew the Ring had two feet? We were at the wrong foot, and tore through Kenmare to get to the B&B at the right foot before dark. As we whizzed through, Janelle said, 'What a lovely town! Let's stop!' We couldn't. Two months later, having fallen hopelessly in love with Ireland, and after scouring the Internet listings, my younger son and I took a prospecting trip to Ireland looking for a possible holiday cottage. We pared the best prospects to a manageable few and visited places from Linnane and Clifden in the west central region all the way down to Kenmare and beyond. What's now Stoneybrough and its unique location stood head and shoulders above anything we saw on the entire trip. We believe we found the nicest property in the nicest location in the nicest town in the nicest county in Ireland. We think you'll agree.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Why Stoneybrough? Well, Stoneybrough's proximity to everything is unmatched. Instead of driving miles to downtown, you're right there. Yet, you're insulated from the hustle and bustle along the serene, bubbling and beautiful river, with the iconic Cromwell Bridge just downstream. Kenmare is a proud, responsibile community. A nationally designated Irish Heritage Town, Kenmare has won the national 'Tidy Town' award and won the Small Town category in 2013. The warmth and friendliness of strangers is hard to describe unless you experience it. Kenmare folks call those of us who have moved in, 'blow-in's' meaning we weren't born there. But they go out of their way to make everyone feel genuinely welcome. And here's the magic: you don't feel like a visitor, getting to town in the car, finding a place to park, (not always easy), getting back in and driving home after a few drinks and some good fun. Rather, you feel like you belong. You're a part of the place, not a casual passerby. You walk home. Heck, you can crawl home! You're connected. The feeling is real. The property has been updated with the latest in technology, new furniture, carefully chosen period art, a new master bed, deck furniture and even a jaunty beach umbrella for those sunny afternoons relaxing on the deck! You'll lack for nothing. You'll provision at the many small groceries around town, the two wine shops, and the Farmer's Market on Wednesday for gourmet meats, fresh fish, eggs, artisan cheeses, breads and all kinds of goods practically at your doorstep. A bookshelf devoted to helpful books, maps and other holiday planning resources can be found in the living room. You'll receive a welcome basket of wine and Irish products from our housekeeper, JoAnne, who'll help you with logistics, show you how to operate everything, and answer all your questions. And she's available for anything you might require during your stay, and can arrive on a moment's notice.
