Lake Wedowee house description
You will love our warm and inviting home on beautiful Lake Wedowee! Whether you're enjoying the stunning views or playing in the water, this is a vacation home with something for everyone! , This 4 BR, 3B, house is located on a year 'round, deep water point and sits atop 2 gently sloped lots with views of the Little Tallapoosa and the mouth of Wedowee Creek. The entire property includes a vacant wooded lot next door ensuring plenty of privacy and loads of room for swimming and other water activities. Over 600 ft. of water frontage and 2 separate docks are yours to enjoy. One oversized dock is for sunning, swimming, has a boat slip, and boat tie-ups. A smaller covered dock houses our personal boat and watercraft (use of owners watercraft not included in the rental program) and serves as a great fishing spot or swimming point. Our little ones use the shallow space between the docks as their own safe and contained swimming area.
The house was built for family gatherings and big groups - all the common areas are large and open to the outdoors and each other. The kitchen, dinning and living area are open and have panoramic water views. The dining table seats 10-12 and the large kitchen has an eat-in bar. Off the dinning area is an oversized screen porch with views of the quiet cove. The porch has a swing, seating for 10 plus and separate eating area. This is primo outdoor space if you need a break from the sun or just want to appreciate a seasonal shower and stay dry! From the screened porch, extending the entire length of the house is a large covered porch with a 2 story vaulted ceiling. This outdoor living area was an addition in 2005 and is everyone's favorite sitting/gathering spot. A view thru the trees down the mouth of the Little Tallapoosa river makes you feel like you are in the mountains! Settle back in the Adirondack chairs sipping a cool drink and the take in the view or recline under the quiet hum of ceiling fans and have a peaceful nap. The family room boasts large picture windows with lake views, 2 story vaulted-beamed ceiling, rock fireplace, TV/VCR/DVD/ Stereo system.
The house can sleep 12 - 14 guests comfortably. The main level bedroom has a queen size bed. The upper level has 2 bedrooms and full bath. One bedroom had a queen and a twin bed the other bedroom has a double bunk (double bed on bottom and single up top), and a twin. The lower level has a bedroom with a double bunk and twin. The lower level has a full bath, a utility room with washer, dryer and extra refrigerator and a playroom/TV room with bunk beds. The lower level has many windows and views of the big lake and cove.

Loved the View
Loved the View
Our extended family (3 siblings + families) enjoyed our visit to the lake! Trip highlights included owl watching, fishing, beautiful weather and great views.....and an exciting lizard chase thru the kitchen (we won)! The house is quite comfortable except the layout of the bedrooms didn't quite fit our mostly adult family's need for privacy. We also found the downstairs bathroom to be unusable. Also some of the skillets and pans could use a bit of an update! On the positive side we loved having the ice maker!! And there are plenty of towels! Shutdown procedure is simple and gives you plenty of time to pack up and get out without feeling too rushed. Thanks too for being pet friendly. We loved having our little dog with us.....he particularly enjoyed squirrel watching! Most lots are steep at lake Wedowee but getting down to the water is a very doable hike for the 55+ crowd. Thanks for allowing us into your home!!

Fantastic Family Vacation Home
Fantastic Family Vacation Home
We rented this home with family friends for a weekend and were delighted with our experience. The property was well-kept and the lake was beautiful. The kids (ages ranging from 10-17) especially had a blast with the canoe and kayaks. They loved having their own area in the basement to watch movies and play games. The screened in porch was an enjoyable place to eat dinner and relax. There is plenty of space outside for other activities, including nice roads for taking walks. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone seeking a vacation spot that is both adult and child friendly.

Could be cleaner; furniture is stained. Refrigerator shelf was broken when we got there, my husband spent the first 20 mins there, fixing the shelf. Lots of ants on the property and grounds. We had an infestation in all of our cars. Dock and screened porch were great! I would not recommend this property because of the cleanliness.

Owner response: This is a family friendly home which caters to groups of 10-14. The furnishings are comfortable, and worn. Regarding the broken refrigerator shelf, the owners do an inspection before every guest arrives. We were unaware of the broken shelf but had we been notified our 24/7 repair man would have tended to the issue. This home is located on several acres of densely wooded property. We see crickets, frogs, lizards, spiders and ants. We professionally treat the inside and outside grounds several times per year. Ants follow food and if these guests had ants in their car perhaps they also had food in their car and food lying out for the ants to eat.
Family Lake House
Family Lake House
This is a beautiful, well maintained house, which worked perfectly for our party of 15 (including older teenagers and young children) and even the family Labrador. Everyone had plenty of space to sleep comfortably at night and spread out during the day, with the two porches being a huge plus. The docks and kayaks were great fun, and the lake was lovely and amazingly warm. The owners were very organized and had plenty of information prepared to send to renters which was helpful. I would definitely rent this property again next year.

The house is laid out perfectly one to two large families. We did not realize how beautiful a lake can be in the colder months! My favorite spot is the screened in porch, with plenty of places to sit and relax and drink tea while seeing the lake from all angles. Beds and linens were comfortable. Kids enjoyed the ping pong table, kayaks and canoe. Kitchen was roomy and functionable. Appreciated the second fridge downstairs to hold our Thanksgiving turkey and other extras. Great privacy with extra lots. We'd love to return in the summer.

An Awesome Lakeside Retreat
An Awesome Lakeside Retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The pictures did not do it justice. We all agreed that so far, of all our trips that this group have taken (which include the Smokies, the Gulf Coast, and the entire state of Louisiana) this property and home had the most comfortable feel and layout. The house was very clean and well appointed. We loved the screened "outdoor" room and I loved the kitchen! Not only do I coordinate all of our weekend trips but I also serve as the personal chef. Being able to cook and still feel part of the activity is awesome when you prepare a 6 hour dinner! Lots of counter space. Ice machine is a great touch. The owners were very pleasant to work with and provided plenty of helpful information. Deposit was returned very prompty. We will defintiely be back. Thanks for a great weekend!

Great Expectations.....and all of ours were met. This is a comfortable and relaxing home away from home. The covered front porch (with a swing and ceiling fans) offered an impressive view of the lake. The screened porch (with a swing also!!) was a tranquil place for enjoying meals. Night fishing from the lighted dock was amazing. The property was spacious and provided plenty of privacy. The owners are friendly and accessible. The town of Wedowee may be small, but it is big on being Neighborly.

Family Outing at Lake Wedowee
Family Outing at Lake Wedowee
Our recent 4 day visit to Lake Wedowee was an extremely enjoyable time spent by our entire family. We were able to have 11 total people stay at the house and enjoy the lake, kayak's and canoe and take advantage of both the fishing and swimming with a great bit of privacy. We also spent the evenings with a playing games, enjoying a good book on the deck and/or screen room and also enjoyed some great "ping pong" matches. We grilled every lunch and dinner utilizing the gas grill on the deck and had plenty of room to spread out both in and outside of the house. The house was both intimate and private as well as quite open, roomy and had an amazing deck and view. In addition, the homeowners were spectacular to work with. I would highly recommend this place to anyone interested. It is truly a great place to enjoy with a large family and is also an extremely good value.

This was the perfect place for us and our two Golden Retrievers. Great house, great docks, wonderful decks and the best screened-in porch ever. The owners were extremely helpful and every thing was well organized in the detailed notebook that described all that we needed to know. We would recommend this lake house to anyone and we look forward to staying again in the future.

Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: My husband and I purchased 3 lake lots on beautiful Lake Wedowee in 1995. We built the house in '97 using a modified Southern Living house plan, 'Nautical Cottage'. We both have large extended families and we wanted a place that would accommodate a crowd. We now co-own the house/lots with another family and have 6 children between us ranging in ages 25-17 yrs. .We have been vacationing here for years , enjoying the house all year long - as fun as it is during the summer months its a great get away during the 'off season', as well as in the quiet months of the winter. Did I mention the many Thanksgivings we have celebrated here!) As much as we love lake living, we found that activities kept us from using the home as much as we wanted. By renting the house, our guests can enjoy the lake as much as we do
Why the Owner Chose Lake Wedowee:
Lake Wedowee is located in the southern foothills of the Apppalachian mountain chain. It is rated as one of the cleanest lakes in Alabama. With over 270 miles of shoreline, Lake Wedowee offers an abundance of outdoor activities. Our family loves the water and my husband is an avid fisherman. it is a great place to wet a line for crappie, bass, brim or catfish
The Unique Benefits at this House:
