Most Romantic Getaway:

Situated on one of Bucks County’s most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Phillips' Mill,PA and just 1 1/2 miles from downtown New Hope sits this Medieval Gothic English village. Renowned architect, painter, wood worker, and iron worker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary medieval village at the turn of the 20th century to be his residence.

Located in the middle of this medieval village is your romantic one bedroom Herringbone Cottage (maximum occupancy 2). As you walk through the village, you’ll feel as though you've stepped back in time and you're now in England 900 years ago. The Herringbone Cottage has a studio layout with the bedroom area at one end of the cottage and the livingroom/diningroom area at the other. Off of that space, there is a separate, galley Kitchen and full Bathroom.

( If you are traveling with friends and need an additional bedroom you can also rent 'Gothic Cottage' (VRBO Listing: #323886 ) which is just a short walk further down the village walkway (same rate as Herringbone Cottage). Please ask us to email you our information booklet which has more photos and all details on both our English cottages and the New Hope, Pa. area.

Relax And Enjoy: Step down into the sunken Italian garden and enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the sun set. Four large ornate stone pedestals were imported from a palace in Italy by Morgan Colt in the early 1900’s and barged up the canal to Colt’s residence where they have been standing at each corner of the sunken garden for the last 100 years.

If you like to walk, jog or ride your bicycles, you will really enjoy having instant access to the canal tow-path that runs along side the canal and aprox 1 mile into downtown New Hope, PA and Lambertville as well as Stockton, NJ. known for the Stockton Inn where Rogers and Hart wrote the song, 'There's a Small Hotel with a Wishing Well', and where all of Hollywood used to hang out during the 30's, 40's and 50's. We also have very popular bike routes and bike trails that take you all along the canals and the very English looking countryside. Bike rentals are available in New Hope.

Nearby we have 8 wineries, great wine shops, many great art galleries and 3 museums, (two castles), the fabulous outdoor Sculpture Garden in Princeton, NJ, great anique shops, two great Flea Markets, fabulous restaurants all over the area, This area of Bucks County is famous for its English looking countryside and historic sites.

If you like shopping, you will love Pedler's Village. This little shopping village was built to look like an old Colonial Village with brick walkways, beautiful gardens with waterfalls and 80 unique shops of all kinds dotted along the meandering brick walkways.

If you don’t feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your cottage door, down the cast-stone walkway where horse-drawn cariages used come through the beautiful garden courtyards and Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip’s Mill, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably “the most romantic county restaurant in all of Bucks County” (For weekend dining, you should call ahead for reservations. Note: There are three things to remember. The Inn is Evening dining only, and its a 'Bring Your Own Bottle' and the don't take credit cards but do take cash or personal checks. Once you have booked your stay at The Herringbone Cottage, we will provide you with an information packet about your stay that will also contain the restaurant’s reservation phone number.

By car, we are located aprox 1 & 1/2 miles north of downtown New Hope, and Lambertville which are famous for their numerous fine art galleries, antique stores, great restaurants, live music and theater. If walking on the canal into New Hope, we are just 1 mile from town.

Our property sits on the banks of the beautiful Delaware Canal which gives you quick access to the canal towpath where you can walk, or ride your bikes (1 mile) to historic downtown New Hope, PA, Lambertville or Stockton, NJ. The Herringbone Cottage has off-street parking and is available all year round so you can make this your new home-away-from-home. We do not raise our rates on weekends so its the same rate all week.

The Herringbone Cottage is perfect for weekend getaways, week long vacations or temporary lodging and can comfortably accommodate two people. For extended stays of two or more weeks, weekly house cleaning services are included.

My wife and I decided to drive up from Washington, DC to celebrate her birthday and we were not dissapointed at all! The snow on the ground in this little village made it a wonderfully romantic weekend getaway. Our host, Kurt, was extremely helpful and kind, which made the stay all the more enjoyable. We plan on returning in the summer/fall to experience the village during another season. If you are looking to get away from it all in a cozy hideaway, this is the place for you. Clean, comfortable, delightful!

What a charming, clean, quiet, and cozy cottage! We were sure it would be wonderful, but it exceeded our expectations. We spent two nights here to celebrate our recent engagement and the New Year. Kurt is beyond helpful and accommodating, and he obviously takes a lot of pride in the property and the area. We enjoyed strolling along the canal towpath (the views of the Delaware River are beautiful) and browsing the shops in New Hope (a very short drive from the cottage). There was plenty of storage space within the cottage for our clothing, toiletries, and food. We lacked for nothing. The coffee maker was set up for us, there were CDs for us to enjoy, and the sleep number bed was a treat. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! We shall return!

Loved every minute of it! A perfect little retreat. Kurt and Eleanor are so lovely and accommodating. The cottage was quaint, but VERY nice. The gardens and property are absolutely stunning. We loved getting to use the grill as well! Will definitely be back :)

All of the rave reviews and photos we looked at before arriving did not disappoint! A perfect refuge tucked away just north of New Hope, we felt as if we were in another world… it reminded us very much like being in one of the small, rural villages in the French countryside. The drizzle of rain one morning didn’t stop us from exploring the grounds and surrounding area, including the Stockton Farmers Market where we found all sorts of local fare like specialty cheeses and organic meats that we nibbled on back at the cottage. That night, we enjoyed dinner at the Inn – and being able to walk the short path “home” after drinking a bunch of wine with our delicious “French Country” meal. The next day we appreciated the late checkout which enabled us to spend part of the day experiencing “downtown” New Hope. We were delighted with Kurt and Eleanor - our gracious and accommodating hosts. If you prefer staying in sterile, homogenous hotels – this is not the place for you. The Gothic Village is full of character, charm and real hospitality which is a rare find these days.

We stayed at this beautiful and charming cottage for a long weekend getaway. Such a romantic setting, the old cottage was so charming but, as another reviewer said, feels like you are staying in a 5 star hotel. The owners were wonderful and so accommodating. They gave us booklets of suggestions of where to eat for each time of day, sights to see, and took the time to give us the entire history of the village. I not only recommend others to stay here if they will be in the New Hope area but I will definitely be booking it again in near future. Thank you for a wonderful time!

The cottage and grounds are nicely kept, and the Hosts were very charming and accommodating. We had a wonderful time walking the path to visit New Hope and Lambertville with all the little shops and places to dine. The cottage is ideal for a couple on a getaway escape.

This is a unique and beautiful property. Though it is a "cottage" from the early 1900s, it has all the amenities and is as well appointed as a luxury hotel room. Clean, comfortable, and very quiet, it is also perfectly located, close to all the galleries, antique stores, restaurants, and covered bridges in New Hope, Lambertville, and Frenchtown. Also, The Inn at Phillips Mill, one of New Hope's most romantic – and delicious – restaurants, is a short and lovely stroll from the cottage. It was very nice to return from a day of activities to the pristine serenity of this property. The owners are extremely warm and welcoming, and are there to help with any questions you might have. Highly recommended.
